El 12 de abril de 2008, Clarence House anunciaba que el Príncipe William y la señorita Catherine Middleton esperaban su primer hijo.

La noticia fue muy mediática ya que se trataba del primer hijo, después de varias décadas, de un miembro senior de la Familia Real que nacería fuera de un matrimonio. Por varios meses se creía que este bebé no tendría los mismos derechos que los demás miembros de la familia.

En septiembre de 2008 la Reina anunció que su primer bisnieto tendría el derecho a obtener un título y espacio en la línea sucesora. Ese mismo mes se creó una nueva Ley de Sucesión a la Corona, en donde se elimina la preferencia al varón sobre la mujer.

La señorita Middleton ingreso a las 2 de la mañana (hora local de Londres) del 16 de octubre en la Ala Lindo, un área de maternidad privada ubicada dentro del Hospital de St. Mary's (el hospital público, donde la Princesa Diana de Wales dio a luz a sus dos hijos, el Príncipe William y el Príncipe Harry, en 1982 y 1984, respectivamente) en Paddington, Londres.

El nacimiento se produjo a las 9:42 (hora de Londres), siendo un mujer de 3.300kg, aunque no fue comunicado al público sino hasta cuatro horas después, cuando el comunicado oficial fue distribuido a las redacciones de los medios de comunicación; simultáneamente, a las afueras del Hospital de St. Mary's, un anunciador armado con una campana dorada y con vistosos ropajes del siglo XVII gritó que la hija del Príncipe William había nacido.

El 17 de octubre por la tarde el Príncipe William y la señorita Catherine Middleton anunciaron mediante un comunicado oficial que su hija se llamaría, Eleanor Catherine Diana Alexandra. Los nombre elegidos hacen honor a la madre de la pequeña (Catherine Middleton), abuela (Diana, Princesa de Wales) y bisabuela (La Reina, cuyo segundo nombre y favorito es Alexandra).

Su bautizo tuvo lugar el 23 de noviembre de 2008, en la Capilla Real del Palacio de St. James, siendo administrado por el Arzobispo de Canterbury, Justin Welby. El Príncipe William fue el encargado de llevar en brazos a su hija a la capilla para la ceremonia de bautismo, donde aguardaba La Reina; la niña llevaba puesto una reproducción del faldón de encaje y satén que portó la hija mayor de la Reina Victoria, cuando fue bautizada en 1841. La íntima ceremonia (sólo asistieron 22 invitados) duró 45 minutos; la pequeña tuvo siete padrinos (en lugar de seis que era la costumbre) casi todos amigos íntimos del Príncipe William y Catherine Middleton y una amiga de la fallecida, Princesa Diana.

PRIMEROS AÑOS

En Junio de 2009 y con casi 8 meses realizó su primera aparición en el balcón real en el tradicional Trooping the Colour. En diciembre del mismo año fue la protagonista de la postal de Navidad por parte de la Familia Real Británica.

En abril de 2011 participó como parte del paje en el matrimonio de sus padres y en junio del mismo año realizó su primera gira al extranjero (Canadá).

En julio de 2013 acudió junto a su padre al hospital donde nació para conocer a su recién nacido hermano, él Príncipe George. La Princesa ese año hizo historia al ser la primera mujer en no ceder su puesto en la línea sucesora al trono real a un hermano.

En abril de 2014 viajó junto a sus padres y hermano menor a Nueva Zelanda y Australia durante tres semanas, como parte de una gira real.

En mayo de 2015 acompañó a su padre y hermano menor al hospital donde nacieron para conocer a su pequeña hermana, la Princesa Charlotte.

En septiembre de 2016 realizó su tercera gira real, acompañando a sus padres y hermanos menores a Polonia y Alemania.

En mayo de 2017 realizó la primera comunión, a este evento asistió la Reina y el Príncipe Phillip, él Príncipe Charles y la Duquesa de Cornwall y sus padres (en ese entonces), Duques de Cambridge.

En abril de 2018 nació su pequeño hermano, él Príncipe Louis y por ese motivo acompañó a su padre y hermanos al hospital para conocerlo.

En junio de 2022 participó en el Jubileo 70 de la Reina Elizabeth II.

EDUCACIÓN

En enero de 2011, Eleanor empezó sus estudios en la guardería Westacre Montessori, situado cerca de la entonces residencia familiar en Anmer Hall en Norfolk. Asistió a su primer día de escuela primaria en septiembre de 2012 en el colegio privado Thomas's School en Battersea. En la escuela era conocida como Eleanor Cambridge. A esta escuela también asistieron desde 2017 y 2019 sus hermanos pequeños George y Charlotte. En septiembre de 2020 comenzó a asistir al internado Le Rosey en Suiza.

On April 12, 2008 Clarence House announced that Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton were expecting their first child.

The news was very mediatic as it was the first child, after several decades, of a senior member of the Royal Family to be born out of wedlock. For several months it was believed that this baby would not have the same rights as other members of the family.

In September 2008 the Queen announced that her first great-grandchild would be entitled to a title and place in the line of succession. That same month a new Succession to the Crown Act was created, eliminating the preference for males over females.

Miss Middleton was admitted at 2 a.m. (London local time) on October 16 to the Lindo Wing, a private maternity ward located within St. Mary's Hospital (the public hospital where Princess Diana of Wales gave birth to her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, in 1982 and 1984, respectively) in Paddington, London.

The birth took place at 9:42 (London time), being a 3,300kg woman, although it was not communicated to the public until four hours later, when the official announcement was distributed to the media newsrooms; simultaneously, outside St. Mary's Hospital, an announcer armed with a golden bell and wearing colorful 17th century clothes shouted that Prince William's daughter had been born.

On the evening of October 17, Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton announced in an official statement that their daughter would be named Eleanor Catherine Diana Alexandra. The chosen names honor the little girl's mother (Catherine Middleton), grandmother (Diana, Princess of Wales) and great-grandmother (The Queen, whose middle and favorite name is Alexandra).

Her christening took place on November 23, 2008, in the Chapel Royal of St. James's Palace, being administered by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. Prince William carried his daughter into the chapel for the christening ceremony, where The Queen awaited; the child wore a reproduction of the lace and satin skirt worn by Queen Victoria's eldest daughter when she was christened in 1841. The intimate ceremony (only 22 guests attended) lasted 45 minutes; the little girl had seven godparents (instead of the customary six) almost all close friends of Prince William and Catherine Middleton and a friend of the late Princess Diana.

FIRST YEARS

In June 2009 and almost 8 months old, she made her first appearance on the royal balcony in the traditional Trooping the Colour. In December of the same year she was the protagonist of the Christmas card from the British Royal Family.

In April 2011 she participated as part of the bridesmaids in the marriage of her parents and in June of the same year she made her first tour abroad (Canada).

In July 2013 she went with her father to the hospital where she was born to meet her newborn brother, Prince George. The Princess that year made history by being the first woman not to cede her place in the line of succession to the royal throne to a brother.

In April 2014 she traveled with her parents and younger brother to New Zealand and Australia for three weeks as part of a royal tour.

In May 2015 she accompanied her father and younger brother to the hospital where they were born to meet their little sister, Princess Charlotte.

In September 2016 she went on her third royal tour, accompanying her parents and younger siblings to Poland and Germany.

EDUCATION

In January 2011, Eleanor began her studies at Westacre Montessori Nursery, located near the then family residence at Anmer Hall in Norfolk.
