Your Pov:

I sighed as I filed a few reports. I was currently with Klavier in his office. He was reviewing for an upcoming case and asked for my help. I ended up being assigned to the case.

I looked out the window. It was cloudy and raining a bit, but I loved the rain. The cold drops of water against my skin and the cold breeze that rustled my hair. It comforted me. The more I stared, the more my thoughts started to wander.

"What do you mean 'it was arson'?!"

"That man...he burned the house down. There's nothing left."

"No...no!"

"(Y/n)! Please, this wasn't your fault."

"I should've been more careful! I...I..."

I was snapped out of my thoughts by Klavier calling my name. "(Y/n)! Are you alright?" I looked at him. "Yes. I'm fine. Don't worry about me." He hummed. "Well, you look like you could use a laugh, fraulein. How about this?" He cleared his throat.

"What do you call a musician with problems? A trebled man."

I rolled my eyes. "Ha ha, very funny. Don't you have work to do? The case is in 4 days after all."

He said nothing and only gave me a glance before going back to reading his report. I finished my current report and started another, but soon enough, I started zoning again.

"What are you talking about?! That's like signing your own death certificate!"

"I don't care. If the law won't help me, I'll do it myself!

"Nothing you do now is going to bring them back! They're gone!"

"...Be quiet. I'll make sure he gets what's coming to him. No matter what."

Soon, it got dark. The rain pounded against the windows and thunder rumbled outside. I flinched, coming out of my thoughts. I felt a wetness on my cheek and I lifted my hand to wipe it away. Unlike the rain, it was warm. Klavier looked at me. "Are...Are you crying?" I quickly shook my head. "No, no. It's nothing." He grabbed my hand. "Please tell me..."

"Are you ok?"

I looked at him. "I...I..." He spoke. "I know you don't like to show your emotions, but it's just you and me in here, fraulein. You can tell me anything." My lip trembled. "I...I can't take much more of this, Klavier." He tilted his head. "Much more of what? I can't help you if you don't explain." I looked down.

"When I first became a detective, before I met you, I got involved with some...unsavory things."

He spoke. "What happened?" I started to explain. "A few years ago...it was all over the news. You should've seen it. A house on the outskirts of the city was set on fire by an arsonist. Everyone inside died before help arrived. And I...was the first on the scene."

He nodded. "I remember seeing that on the news. Three people died and the arsonist was never indicted." I looked at him. "I never saw the arsonist, but I heard him laugh as the house burned." Klavier hummed. "But who were those people to you?" I blinked away some tears. "They were my mother, father, and sister. I was going to visit them that night."

I continued. "The police arrested him shortly after, but even after I testified against him, he was found innocent. Innocent despite the fact that he killed three people and laughed as he did so." Klavier squeezed my hand. "So you decided to bring him to justice on your own?" I nodded. "I tracked him down through a private investigator and then I got his address. Karma collected her debt that night. She was the only witness." I looked at Klavier.

"The only one to see me smile as his screams rang in my ears while he burned with his house."

Klavier paused. "You...You killed him?" I shook my head. "No. Unfortunately, he lived. But as a detective, I was able to sweep everything under the rug. And justice was served." Klavier sighed. "Fraulein, I've worked with you for years. You were there when I had to put my brother away. I understand your craving for justice. So, this once..." He smiled.

"I'll keep your secret."

I nodded. "Thank you. Both for keeping my secret and not turning me in." He hummed. "Don't mention it. But I think you owe me a favor, fraulein." I tilted my head. "What?" He chuckled. "I just want you to show a little more emotion. Laugh, or at least smile a little. You look beautiful when your smile reaches your eyes." I stuttered. "Y-You...I...I'll try."

I quickly pulled away from his grip. "We need to get back to work." I turned back to my reports, ignoring the chuckle from Klavier.

"Don't think I don't see that beautiful smile, fraulein."

And he was right. I was smiling.
