I'm walking to my class when Stiles, suddenly, grabs me by my wrist and pulls me down the hall and into an empty class. "Stiles! What the-"

"Lydia and Jackson saw the Alpha."

I gasp. "Are you sure?"

"They were at a video store. Jackson found the manager dead and Lydia saw the Alpha bust through the window. The police are making them believe it was a mountain lion but, Scott and Derek found this on the roof."

He hands me a picture and it shows a huge spiral engraved on the rooftop. "The Alpha is trying to tell us something...."

I go over to Stiles' house and I sit on his floor, surrounded by pictures and police reports from all the animal attacks. Stiles got them for me, somehow. I didn't ask either. I thought maybe I could see what was going on if the Alpha is really responsible for all these cases. I can't tell that to the sheriff but I want to know for myself.

The bus driver was just pretty much mauled but the manager, at the video store, had his throat ripped out. The Alpha could have really killed the video store manager but it could've been an actual mountain lion that killed the bus driver.

I decide to grab my coat and go to see Derek. If anyone knows, it's him. As soon as I walk in, he starts talking. "I need you and your brother to help me kill the Alpha. I know you go through a lot of pain when you're in wolf form but you need to bear with it. Being in wolf form is the only advantage we have to kill whoever this Alpha is."

I just stare at him like he's lost every bit of sense. He is asking me to try and ignore the pain that made me feel like I was being turned inside out while being torched. I just agree and go home. The next day at school, Scott and I are walking to our lockers when Allison gets a birthday surprise from Lydia. "Why didn't you tell me it was her birthday?"

"Well, Scott, if you're 'dating' her that's something you should know. Am I wrong?"

He gives me a scowling look before going to talk to her. I overhear Allison complaining how getting old by the year and how depressing her birthday actually is for her now. To make her feel better, Scott asks her to skip school with him. I just roll my eyes and continue on down the hall. Of course, you would do something as stupid as that, Scott. I go to chemistry with Stiles. We ask Danny if Jackson has told him what he saw since they are best friends. "He might be my best friend, but he won't tell me anything."

"Oh, and Danny?" Stiles whispers.

"What?"

"Am I attractive?"

The question makes me look up from my textbook. Stiles is sitting on the edge of his seat and then falls. I try to hold back my laugh. I get a text from Derek saying that we need to talk to Jackson. I meet him in the hallway after the boy's lacrosse practice. We wait until he is at least dressed in pants. I hide behind the lockers while Derek questions him.

When Derek asks Jackson what he saw, Jackson hesitates. I appear next to Derek and makes Jackson jump. "Just tell us what happened, Jackson," I say.

Of course, he talks. Derek is satisfied with the answers he gets so we leave. "Oh, you should get those scratches checked out," Derek says before he walks out.

When we get in the hallway, I ask, "I know you know. What happened to his neck?"

"It was an accident. When Kate shot me, I came here looking for you or Scott. He refused to tell me and my claws slipped."

Sure, slipped. "Where's Scott?" he asks.

"He skipped school with Allison. It's her birthday and he forgot. She felt insecure about her age so he took her out to make her feel better. That's just the short version. These ears seem to pick up everything."

"I told you to keep him away from her."

"Maybe some things are too strong to stop."

I look up into his eyes and walk past him. I immediately call Stiles. He picks me up so we can go ask Lydia what she saw. We get to her house and her parents warn us that she had just taken her prescription drugs and they take effect quickly. They lead us to her room. "Honey, a Stiles is here to see you," her mom says.

Lydia is lying across her bed. "What the hell is a 'Stiles'?"

I look at Stiles and he's just staring. Her parents leave us with their drugged daughter. "Lydia what did you see the night you were at the video store?" Stiles asks.

"A mountain lion."

"Is that what you really saw or are you saying that because that's what the police told you?"

"A mountain lion," she says again.

I look and pick up a stuffed giraffe. "Lydia, what is this?" I ask

She nods her head. "A mountain lion."

I get up and give Stiles the 'we're not getting anywhere with her' look. I make my way to the Hale house and catch a scent of three other humans. I glance to see Kate and two hunters. She hasn't changed since the last time I saw her. Her hair is long and blonde. The two hunters are carrying guns and I start to panic.

I curse under my breath and hurry to Derek. I slip in through a window. I go down the stairs and see him doing push-ups, shirtless. "What are you doing here?" he asks, standing to his feet.

"Listen, Buffy, I would love for us to hate each other and argue but you have three hunters on your ass, one of them being Kate."

Before he can respond, the door busts open. I sigh. "What a surprise. Scarlett, I haven't seen you in so long. You've grown up so much."

I just nod. "Hey, Kate. Long time, no see."

"Well, can you leave me alone to talk with...your friend?"

I look at Derek and he shakes his head. I look back at Kate. "I can't do that, Kate."

She shakes her head with a sigh. "You were always so brave, Scarlett." She begins stepping closer to me. "Chris is worried that you are consumed by that bite."

I back up slowly. "Well, it depends on what you mean by that. I guess we'll never know."

Before I can take off running, her two hunters grab me. One on each other my arms. I can't twist free so I use my head to knock one in the head. The second hunter grabs both arms and tries to restrain me while Derek takes care of the first hunter.

I head-butt the second hunter and break free. Holding his nose, he brings a gun to my head. I kick it out his hand and twist his wrist behind his back. I use my foot to slam into a wall, knocking him out. I look at Derek and the first hunter is lying at his feet. Then I look over and remember Kate is still standing.

To piss him off, she yells random things about his sister. "Too bad your sister bit it before she had her first litter!" and "Too bad she howled like a bitch when we cut her in half!" Derek gets upset, naturally. She holds out a blue-energy technological gizmo. When he goes to attack her, she knocks him down on his ass. She acts like a sadistic, psychotic bitch that gets off torturing him, and saying awful lines like, "This one grew up in all the right places." She shocks him again and laughs. "I don't know whether to kill or lick it."

My werewolf instincts kick in. I run toward and go for the tool in her hand. She grabs my wrist and throws me to the floor. I fall on a plank of wood, hitting my arm. I wince and clutch my arm to my chest.

I catch an exchange of looks between Derek and Kate. She continues to physically torture then gets into his head. She tells them that they didn't kill Derek's sister. It was the Alpha. "We just want to know who the damn Alpha is."

"We don't know either," I say through my teeth. Derek manages to escape from his captivity. He quickly picks me up in his arms and runs out. He looks back and makes a face. I pass out and wake up in Stiles' bed. "What the hell...?"

He turns around from his desk. "Look who's up. I like helping friends out but I don't like going to my car and you're lying in it, unconscious."

I sit up. "Derek must have left me there."

"What exactly happened?"

"Kate, um, attacked me and Derek. After she busted in, everything else is a bit blurry."

He tosses me a textbook. "Well, you and I have a lot of studying to do."

Tonight is the night for parents to go to the high school and see how their children are doing. Sheriff Stilinski comes to let us know he's leaving. "I hope I hear good news at this parent-teacher thing."

"What's your definition of 'good news' Dad?"

"I define it as you getting straight A's and no behavioral issues."

I bite my pen and look at the sheriff. "I think you need to rethink that definition, sheriff."

He leaves with a sigh. Stiles and I start laughing. I suddenly get a call from my mom. "Get your butt here now!" she yells over the phone before I can say a word. I rush out and get to the school. I meet my mom on the inside. I follow her down a hall. "Where's your brother?"

I can't tell her that he's skipped school with Allison so I shrug. We sit in a classroom with one of my teachers. "Lately, Scott's mind has been somewhere else, as is his body. Personally, I think it may have something to do with his home situation. Specifically, the lack of a male authority figure..."

I roll my eyes. My mom shakes her head. "Trust me, we're much better without him in the picture. "

"Do your twins feel the same way?"

My mom is silent and I don't bother to reply. Right now, the teacher is trying to make my mom feel like crap about her parenting and get her to make some deal that will 'help' Scott and me. Then the teacher says, "He's going through some difficult changes. He just needs a little extra attention, a guiding hand through this crucial stage of his development."

"I can handle my teenage son."

"Now, Scarlett started off a little bumpy but she's improved greatly. She is very bright. She has multiple talents and is one I would recommend to stay away from her brother so he doesn't have a bad influence on her. If you want, we can switch her to the honor classes and she won't have any classes with Scott so she can focus on her schoolwork."

I shake my head. "No."

"Well, we would like to test her intelligence. Smartness, like her, doesn't come around here often."

We go outside and Chris and Victoria confront my mom. He is obviously pissed off. We have a heated confrontation outside. He accuses Scott of being a bad influence, who also kidnapped his Allison for the day.

Now, I get involved. "Kidnapped? You really think your daughter is so innocent? I've known her for a while before either of us came here. She was down and my brother did her a favor. Instead of forcing her to be someone she's not, maybe you should try and let her do what teens do."

"Have you ever skipped school for a boy?"

"What? No! My mom would kill me." I then realize the point he's trying to make. "Oohh."

Scott and Allison show up in the middle of our argument. Our mom is just about to lash out at Scott when I catch a scent of an animal. Then there's a scream coming from the parking lot. I see an animal shadow and the sheriff is about to go to stop the situation when I see a car going right for him. Everything slows down. "Sheriff, no!"

I run to push him out the way and I'm the one that ends up being hit. All I hear is my mom and some other people scream. When I'm hit, I roll forward about a half of a foot. I get a few cuts and bruises from the pavement and I think the car hit me right in my arm. Chris ends up saving the day, by shooting the animal. It turns out to be an actual mountain lion. The sheriff calls for an ambulance and Chris, once again, threatens Scott. Scott picks me up in his arms and carries me to the ambulance truck. He places me in the back of the truck. "Are you okay?" Scott asks.

I nod, trying to get up. "I'm fine. It wasn't that bad."

My mom comes running over. "Sweetie, you need to stay with these EMTs. You hurt your arm."

The man lifts up my shirt and reveals a five-inch gash, probably from the glass. He begins to reveal more marks and I start to feel the pain of all of them. The man tries to lie me down but I pull away. "I said I'm fine."

"Ma'am, we need to treat these wounds. Do we have your permission to put her under?"

My mother doesn't hesitate to nod. Scott holds both my arms as the medic puts a mask over my nose and mouth. I try fighting but it takes effect immediately. Only thirty seconds pass before I start to feel light. My vision gets blurry and I feel weak. Before I knew it, my vision was completely black.

When I wake up in the hospital, I find out they put my arm in a cast with a sling and I have to keep it there for three weeks, even though it will be healed before then. Of course, I can't say that to the doctor. The gash on my side is sown up and covered. I sit on my hospital bed, waiting for Scott to come pick me up. The sheriff comes in and I perk up. "Hey, sheriff, are you okay?

He sighs. "I'm fine. The question is, are you?"

I hold up my arm in a sling. "I could be worse. I was put to sleep and got stitches on my side. It's like my childhood all over again."

"Yeah, but you could also be dead. You jumped in front of that car, putting your life on the line."

I look down. "I had a good reason. You're the father of my best friend. You mean a lot to him. He deserves some kind of happiness in his life. Besides, some people are worth the risk."

He kneels down in front of me. "Look, I appreciate what you did but I'd rather you be alive than you get yourself killed because of me."

I nod. "Okay, I'm sorry."

"One more thing. You were across the lot before I almost got hit and you had to have a lot of force to push me out the way."

I hesitate. Dammit. "I've been doing lacrosse workouts with Scott and Stiles. Yeah, that's it. I really have built up some strength."

He hesitates but he nods. He walks out. I lie back on the bed and shake my head. Now, that was a close one.
