Raving

We follow Matt and Jackson to a ticket booth for a secret concert/rave. We're standing in line when I bring up the fact that I've kissed other guys while here. He isn't upset but shocked. "Aren't you with Derek?"

"Scott, Derek isn't good for me. Isn't that what you said?"

"Yes, but you always leave to go see him."

"It just happens. It doesn't really mean anything. It's like kissing Stiles."

"You've kissed Stiles before? What the hell?"

"Again, it just happened."

"Gross."

I laugh as we get behind Matt and tap him on the shoulder. "How much do the tickets cost?" I ask.

"Um...seventy-five," he replies.

I reach into my pocket and pulled out eighty dollars. Scott looks at me. "What? I save my work money."

He taps Matt's shoulder again. "Can I borrow some money?"

"Yeah, sure. How much?"

"Seventy-five."

Matt rolls his eyes and shakes his head. I buy my ticket and go have dinner with Stiles and his dad at the department. "I'm not sharing confidential police work with two teenagers!" the sheriff exclaims.

Stiles notices the murder board which is pinned to the wall behind his father's head. On it, all the evidence of the recent killings is spread out in photographs and scraps of paper. "Is that it on the board behind you?"

"Don't look at that."

Together, we go over the pieces. The sheriff has figured out that the couple in the travel trailer and the mechanic are all 24 years old. At first he believed this to be pattern to which the death of Isaac Lahey's father did not fit but then he realized that Lahey had another son, called Camden who would have fit the pattern had he not been killed in combat. "They would have all been in the same class at school and they search classroom records and the 2006 BHHS yearbook for more possible victims," Stiles says.

Me and the sheriff nod. "All of the victims up till this point seem to have been connected through Adrian Harris' intermediate chemistry class," I reply.

We go through the list of the students that were killed. "Tucker Cornish," Stiles says.

"Sean Long and Jessica Bartlett," I call off.

"Camden Lahey."

"Wait, is that Isaac's brother?" I ask.

The sheriff nods. " Daphne Hayes, Anna Basso, and Christie Stephens," Stiles continues.

"Kathleen Kasinger, Brenda Findlay, Jade Holmes, and Shena Hammer."

"Collete Knight, Patrick Duggar, Maloria Irvine, and Johnny Langford."

The sheriff takes a bite from his hamburger. "Oh, what the hell is this?"

"Veggie-burger," I reply.

"I asked for a hamburger!"

"That's what Stiles told me to get!"

"Veggie is healthier," Stiles replies. "We're being healthy."

He opens a box of raw vegetables. "Oh, hell! Why are you trying to ruin my life?"

"I'm trying to extend your life! Could you just eat it please?"

The sheriff takes a glance at me. "I promise it's good, sheriff. I have them all the time when my mom doesn't cook."

Stiles knows I'm lying. When the sheriff takes another bite and nods, Stiles gives me a fist bump without looking away from his father. Later, me and Scott meet Derek and Isaac at the animal clinic. When we go inside, Isaac and Scott get into it. "I don't trust him," Isaac says, referring to Scott.

I walk next to Derek and sigh. "I don't trust him either," Scott fires back.

Derek stops before going behind the counter. "Derek doesn't care," he says.

"And Scarlett doesn't either."

We go to Deaton and he wants to know if we plan killing or saving Jackson. At same time, me and Scott says 'save' but Derek and I say 'kill'. Scott looks at with. "Scarlett? What the hell?"

"He almost killed me by a poolside and Jackson has not been the greatest person anyway." I don't bring up the fact that Jackson told me why he didn't include me in the restraining order. "He is killing people and has been huge thorn in my side for a while now."

Deaton pulls out a spice rack of small jars. Each is labeled with a symbol. "Are you some kind of witch?" Isaac asks.

Deaton shakes his head. "No, I'm a veterinarian." He starts to pull out a bunch of different jars. "Unfortunately, nothing here will be an effective defense against the kanima's paralytic toxin."

"Well, the kanima doesn't have many weaknesses," Derek says.

I think for a second. "It can't swim."

Derek looks up at me and nods. "It burns it, like acid."

"Since the creature can't swim and Jackson is Swim Team Captain, the kanima is manifesting a weakness of its master and they are essentially trying to catch two people," Deaton explains.

He illustrates with a small scrolled silver medallion with an image of Cernunnos, the Wicca Horned God, at its center. "One is the puppet and the other is the puppeteer."

We then speculate on why Jackson killed Sean but the master had to kill Jessica himself. "Maybe it was because she was pregnant and Jackson's bio mother died while pregnant," Scott implies.

"It may just be part of the rules of the kanima," Isaac replies.

"What do you mean, Isaac?" I ask.

"You said it only kills murderers, right? I mean, since it kills murderers, it couldn't kill mother and child because the child was an innocent."

"Since you say that, does that mean your father was a murderer?" Scott asks.

Isaac only shrugs. "Wouldn't surprise me if he was."

The next day, I skip school to go see Derek while Scott and Stiles worked on getting tickets for the concert. He isn't surprised to see me. "Are you here to lecture me on why not to kill Jackson?"

I shake my head. "I wanted to come and ask you something. If you had the chance, would you go back and do something differently? Like picking other people for your pack?"

"If I could go back and change something, it would be that I never trusted Kate. My family wouldn't have suffered."

"I couldn't agree more."

We stare at each other for a long time. "The hell with it," is all I say before I grab him by his jacket and crushed our lips together.

I didn't hesitate to pull his jacket off his leather jacket and start pulling off his shirt. He slams me against a wall and tears open my shirt. He starts to kiss down my jaw line and bite my neck. I let out a squeak and nibble on his ear lobe. I pull on his hair, moving his mouth back to mines. This is what we need. We need to release all the frustration we have built up.

Later at the vet, Deaton gives us ketamine, a type of anesthesia they use on dogs. He believes this will slow Jackson down enough to trap him. He then explains that Stiles will have to create a barrier of black dust made from the Mountain Ash tree. Mountain ash. I think back to the necklace that was given to me, full of this exact same ash. Maybe someone knew about what lies in Beacon Hills and gave it to me to protect me.

When we get to the concert, we see Allison and Matt dancing together. Scott gives the ketamine syringe to Isaac explaining that he now has to keep the hunters from interfering with the plan. "Be careful, Isaac."

"I know. Don't hurt Jackson. We're saving him, not killing."

I shake my head. "No, he means for you to stay safe and don't get yourself hurt."

We go outside and wait for Stiles. Suddenly, a black SUV pulls up and knocks us both out. My vision goes black...

I slowly wake up face down in one of the back rooms of the warehouse. I look over and see Allison's mom cannabis vaporizer filled with wolfsbane. I'm not weak from the wolfsbane but from the blow to my head that knocked me out in the first place. "What are you doing?" I manage to say.

"I plan to kill your brother, I suppose."

I turn my head, wincing at the pain. I look at Scott, who's eyes are focused on the vaporizer. The cannabis fills the air and Scott starts to transform. I look up at her. When she turns her back, I rise slowly. I go to push her over but she turns and pushes a blade into my stomach. She holds my face. "You know it pains me to do this to you, sweetie."

I grip the blade and fall the floor. I would have taken the blade out but it is in too deep. I start bleeding through my hands. I cough up blood and try to keep my eyes open. "What...did you just stab me with?"

"Something that effects werewolves like you," she replies. "You see, McCall twins, this will look like a terrible accident. It will look like you two had an asthma attack and couldn't get to you inhalers in time. It's so believable. Good thing I have access to the school medical records. You, Scarlett. I can bury you in plain sight. This town is so stupid, they'll never find you."

She goes on and on about how we're lone wolves, an Omega and that they never survive and how pathetic their cries can be. "We're not alone," we both whisper.

We're able to choke out a howl. A minute later, Derek comes to our rescue. He's attacked from behind by Allison's mom who is wielding another knife. They struggle. Derek starts suffering the effects of the wolfsbane vapor as Victoria somewhat easily overwhelms him. She escapes. Derek stays with us while Deaton treats Scott for the wolfsbane poisoning. Derek grips the knife in my stomach and counts to three. He yanks the knife out. I gasp but relax as my wound begins to heal.

Scott falls asleep and Deaton goes to talk to his younger sister, Ms. Morrell. I pull Derek down and kissed him softly. "I knew you cared..." I whisper.

He laughs. "I guess you can say that."
