Code Breaker

Me and Derek are in silence when we hear a distant howl. I recognize it as Scott. I react with a deep howl in return. I hang my head with a sigh, weak and tired. "Scott needs my help. We need to get out of here," I whisper.

"I'm working on it."

I hear Derek fiddle with the handcuffs on his wrist. I try, myself, to use my claws to cut the rope on my wrist. Kate comes back again. She looks like she's on her way out. "Why don't you just torture us?" Derek asks.

"I don't wanna torture you. But he does."

A big, tall man comes through the slid door. I roll my eyes. I notice the bat in his hand and I start to panic. Kate leaves and shuts the door tightly behind her. The guy immediately strikes me on the side. I cry out. He hits me again. I can hear a rib crack. He tries to take a swing at Derek but, somehow, he got his left arm free and he catches the bat in mid-air. The man tries to fight back and claims Derek will lose. "We're not alone," he replies.

I look up and see Scott. I smile in relief. While the man is distracted when he turns around to look at Scott, Derek takes the opportunity to knock the man out. "Scott, help me," Derek says.

"You have to agree to help me first."

"What?"

"Help me get Allison back. Promise to help me and I'll-"

The sound of Derek breaking his other restraint makes me jump. "I'll help you."

They both help me out the chair but I can barely stand. I get my shirt back and Derek got his shirt and his leather jacket. "Hey. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Something doesn't feel right," Derek says, as we're walking through the woods, toward the Hale house.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"I don't know. It's...it's kind of like it's..."

"No, don't say 'too easy'. People say 'too easy' and bad things happen. What, do you think to find you two was easy? Getting away from Allison's dad? None of this has been easy," Scott replies.

"Fine. You're right."

"Thank you."

That's when an arrow shoots past my face, almost grazing my cheek, and hits Derek in the arm. Another comes and shoots him in the leg. I turn to see Kate and Allison. All of a sudden, I feel something coming toward me and, when I move, an arrow shoots by. Scott grabs my arm. "Come on!"

But it's too late. She shoots an arrow that blinds us. Derek grabs us and tries to escape but Scott is confronted by Allison. She doesn't believe that not one thing he did was to protect her. "Allison, please," I plea. "Kate has put all this crap in your head that we're all bad but we're not. Just think. This isn't you."

Kate sees I'm getting through to her so she tries to shoot me in the leg but I roll out the way. She then says that they will have to kill us. Allison looks surprised. "I thought you said we were capturing them."

"Yeah, we did that. Now we kill them."

She lifts a gun and shoots Derek. She knows Allison doesn't have it in her to kill Scott, not even me. I run to aid, kneeling down next to him. When I look up, Kate's pointing the gun at me. I gulp and hold my hands up in surrender. She laughs. "You were such a sweet girl, Scarlett."

She's about to pull the trigger when Chris appears. "Kate! I know what you did. Put the gun down."

"I did what I was told to do," is her only response.

"No one asked you to murder innocent people. There were children in that house, ones who were human. Look what you're doing now. You're holding a gun to 16-year-old twins with no proof they spilled human blood. We go by a code."

My phone suddenly buzzes but I still don't move. Nothing can be more pressing than this very moment. Chris keeps urging Kate to put the gun down but she doesn't so he pulls one out on her. I'm about to grab the gun from her hand but she kicks me in my knee, bringing me to the ground.

She presses the gun against my forehead. The cold metal really helps reality set in. "Kate, please," I sob, tears streaming down my face. "We used to be family. Can you really put me down like some dog?"

I hear the gun set. "Yes, I can because you are a dog."

I can feel she's about to pull the trigger but Chris yells, "Kate, don't you dare! Code or no code, I won't let you kill a girl we've known for almost her whole damn life!"

During their bickering, I hear someone in the distant yell and then I catch the scent of the Alpha that has surrounded us. "Scott," I whisper, doing my best not to move.

The Alpha suddenly knocks Chris down and takes Kate into the Hale house. Allison follows after them. I get Scott and we go inside but we're too late though. Kate's blood is splattered on the windows. Her body is lying on the floor, her throat slashed. I look over to see Allison devastated. "Allison, go outside!"

She can't even move. Scott takes her outside. He comes back to face off with Peter. He looks at me and Scott. Derek appears next to us and Peter just gives him a careless look. We try to fight him but we are still weak against him. He grabs Derek and knocks him out. He grabs my shoulder and presses down. I fall to my knees.

He tackles us outside and now he's in his full Alpha form. Now Jackson and Stiles are here and they start throwing a weird thing, called Molotov cocktails, at him. They are just as flammable as gasoline, maybe more. I remember Lydia telling us about it when we were trapped at the school. Scott throws Allison her bow. When she shoots him, Peter starts to burn alive.

Although he's in wolf form, Allison kisses Scott, turning him back. She tells him that she loves him afterward. Derek appears to a burned-to-a-crisp Peter. He pulls out his claws, ready to end his uncle's life. I run up next to him. "Derek, don't do this. I think there's been enough death for one night. Please, don't," I warn.

We keep trying to tell him to stop but Peter made one smart remark and got his neck slashed. He looks up and his eyes are glowing red. "I'm the Alpha now," he says.

The scent of blood fills my nose. I run, following it and find Lucas. He's on the ground, bleeding out from a huge open gash on his stomach. I kneel down and can't control my tears. "Lucas, Jesus, I...."

He coughs, blood dripping from his mouth. Somehow, he manages to smile. "Hey, I....knew I'd run into you."

I start sobbing. "I'm gonna get you help. It's gonna be okay. I can call my mom. I promise-"

"Hey, hey, hey. Don't you worry. At least I can die, knowing I dated a werewolf."

"What?"

"He told me."

I just shake my head. His eyes start to close. "Lucas, no. Stay with me. I love you, Lucas. I love you."

He smirks. "I love you, too, Scarlett."

His smile fades and his heart comes to a complete stop. I start crying harder. Scott, Derek, and Stiles appear behind me. Scott puts a hand on my shoulder. I stand up, wiping my tears. Scott and Stiles go to report Lucas' death. When I left with Derek, I get enraged. "Your stupid uncle did this. He killed him and it's all your fault!"

"How is this my fault?"

"When we were at that hospital, you had a chance to kill him. When you found out he was the Alpha, you had the chance. You were too....stupid! Now Lucas is dead. He's dead and..." I start to tear up again. I run off before he can respond to anything. I have a lot of catching up to do. Scott lies to mom for me for the days I was gone. He told her I'm was staying at Allison's house to help her through personal issues. Later, me and Scott, along with Stiles, go to see Lydia in the hospital. I find out Peter bit her the night of prom. Turns out, the bite hasn't healed so she isn't a werewolf. "Then what is she?" I go to see Derek and he's at the Hale house, as usual. I don't say anything when I walk in but I do stand next to him. I actually felt bad for going off on him about something he couldn't control. "Is it over?" I ask.

"Not exactly. Peter is gone but there's always something out there."

"But we'll be here, waiting and ready to protect, not only the ones we love but this town."

He looks down at me and nods. "Derek, I need you to know that half of the things I said about my feelings for you were true. I do love you and I try so hard not to because I know how dangerous it could be for us to be together."

He places a hand on my cheek and uses his other hand to grab me by the waist, pulling me closer. "Aren't you the one that said there are some things that can't be stopped."

No more words are said. We stand together, looking into each other's eyes. There was no need to kiss because our eye contact is the best kiss right now.
