Illuminated

I sit next to Scott on a bench that also holds Stiles, Kira and Lydia. My father looks at us, leaning on the sheriff's desk. He is questioning us on how we came across Baro, an escaped mental patient. I glance at Sheriff Stilinski who is sitting behind his desk. "So, what time did you get there?"

"At the same time," Stiles replies.

"Same time as who?"

Stiles points to us. "Same time as me and Scarlett," Scott answers.

"Like a coincidence?"

"What do mean 'coincidence'?" I ask.

"That's what I'm asking you. You three arrive at the same time. Is that coincidence?"

"Are you asking me?" I ask.

"I think he's asking me," Stiles says.

"I think he's asking the three of you," Lydia also says.

"Okay, let me answer the questions." My father stops and I just purse my lips. I see the sheriff smile a bit. "Let me ask the questions."

Stiles winks his eye and points at my dad. "So, I have this absolutely clear. Baro was hiding in the chemistry room at the school. Someone left him a coded message, on the black board,  telling him to kill Kira. Then Baro took Kira to power substation with the intent of electrocuting her, which blacked out the entire town."

I nod. "Sounds just about right."

"How'd you know he'd take her to a power station?"

"Well, he's an electrical engineer," Stiles replies.

"Where else would he take her?" I add.

"That's one hell of a deduction, you two."

"Hey, what can I say? We take after our pops. They're in the law enforcement."

Me and Stiles fist bump while the sheriff laughs but, when my father looks back at him, he coughs. "Stiles, Scarlett, answer the man."

"We made a good guess."

My father looks to me. "It was a guess, really. I don't believe in coincidences, though."

My dad looks at Scott and to Kira. "What were the two of you doing?"

"Eating pizza," Scott says.

"Eating sushi," Kira says.

"Eating sushi," Scott rephrases.

"Eating pizza," Kira stumbles.

My father turns to the sheriff. "Do you believe this?"

"To be honest, I haven't believed a word Stiles and Scarlett have said since they learned to speak."

"Why me? I understand Stiles but why me?"

"Remember all those times we lied about going to the park when we actually went around digging around in the woods?" Stiles whispers.

"We use to be that weird as kids?"

Stiles just nods. We turn back to the sheriff and my dad. "But I think these kids found themselves at the right place at the right time. And that girl sitting there is lucky for it."

"Kira, is that how you remember?"

We all look at Kira. "Yes. Can I get my phone back now?"

"Sorry, but no." We all get up to leave. My father stops Kira. "Kira, deputy is gonna take you home but we need you to fill out some papers first."

My father stops us in the hall. "I don't know why you guys were lying, why Stilinski is content to listen to this crap. But you need to remember something. If half this story of Baro is true, then, not only did someone help set him loose, he's a pawn in a little game. A masked murderer is bad enough. A masked murderer being controlled by someone...far worse."

"Okay, we get it," Scott replies.

"Alright, go home. It's a school night."

We nod and start to walk off. "Scarlett," my dad calls. I turn back around. Scott keeps walking. "Scarlett, I've been getting word of you being spotted with a wanted fugitive."

"Who would that be?"

"His name is Derek Hale."

I just bite my lip. "His case was dropped. He's not wanted."

I'm about to walk off when my father grabs me by the wrist. "Scarlett, can we please talk for a second?"

"What is there to talk about?"

He holds me by my arms. "I read the case file on that Trent kid. I'm so sorry I wasn't there for you. I'm sorry for not being there for you at all. I want to make it up to you, you and Scott."

He wraps his arm around me. I want to push away but I've done enough pushing since I've gotten back here. We stand and hold each other, sniffles coming occasionally. The next day, I wear a black jeans, a white tank top and my leather jacket. When I take off my motorcycle helmet, I whip my hair and grab my book bag. Boys stare at me as I walk in with Scott.

The first person we see is Stiles. Scott tries to go over and talk to Kira but me and Stiles hold him back. "No, Scott," I say.

"What? I wanna talk to her."

"Someone left a coded message telling Baro to kill Kira."

"Which is why I need to talk to her."

"Scott, no way," Stiles says. "Until we find out if she's a psychotic monster that won't go around killing people, I vote against any and all interactions."

"I second that motion," I add.

"What if she's like us?" Scott asks me.

"That girl walked through 1.20 ggs of electricity," Stiles reminded him.

"She's nothing like us," I say before walking away.

Later on, we see Kira sitting alone against a wall, eating lunch. Scott sits next to her and I sit in front of him, his legs on either side of me. "I don't wanna talk about it," she immediately says.

"Okay," Scott answers.

He offers to study on an upcoming test. Kira takes the textbook and closes it. "Do either of you have your phone?"

I nod. "I'm gonna show you something that no one has ever seen. No one except for Baro. Take a picture of me and use the flash."

I pull out my phone and do exactly like she instructed. When we review the picture, Kira is surrounded by an orange glow. Turns out, Kira doesn't know what it is and it only shows with the flash. She has pictures like that on her phone and she needs it back.

While Kira, Scott and Stiles figured out how to get Kira's phone back, I go with Derek to some old place. When I get out his truck, I go around to the driver's side and stand next to him. He turns around to get something from his truck when three kids walk up to us. "Trick or treat," they chant.

Derek reach his hand into his truck. I can hear the kids' heartbeats quicken. Derek pulls out a bag of candy, giving them each two. He looks at the kids and his eyes start to glow. He growls at them, baring his fangs. When they run off screaming, Derek turns back around with a smile.

I step in front of him and shake my head. He smiles bigger. I jump up into his arms and kiss him softly. He slips off my leather jacket and pushes me against his car door. He stiffens then turns around. Black shadows form into tall men dressed in all black and wearing masks. Their heads shoot up and their eyes glow like fireflies. Derek grabs my wrist and pushes me around his truck. "Go find Scott and stay with him."

I run as fast as I can, following my brother's scent. It leads me to the loft. When I get there, there is a full ongoing glow in the dark party. I move through the crowd and find Scott at the top roof with Kira. I was about to tell him what happened when Derek's howl echoed through the sky. "Derek?" Scott asks.

I go back down and huff. Derek is gonna blow a fuse. I see Derek throw a security guard down to the floor. He flips the DJ table over and yells, "Get out!"

Everyone hurries out. I see Danny, limping, carrying Lydia out. We're left with the black figures I saw before. They all start looking at Aiden. They start marching toward him. "Guys, why are they all looking at me?"

All the werewolves in the room exchange looks. We start to fight the black figures. One grabs me and throws me to the ground. I see Derek twist one's neck but it doesn't affect it. I charge for another one, using my claws to stab it. It grabs me by my shirt and throws me down, harder. We're all down. Isaac steps forward.

One of them pull out a sword from their chest, making Isaac back away. The figures grabs Aiden and makes him look into their eyes. Aiden looks like he is about to pass out. Before he falls to the ground, they burn something behind his ear. They start to look toward me and Scott. We both jump up and begins to wolf out.

We are about to attack when the sun starts to rise. The black figures disappear. I look behind Aiden's ear and see a backwards five. I look behind Derek's ear and see the same thing. When I touch the mark, my vision flashes again:

There's a young boy in a garden, on the ground, bleeding out. There are the same dark ninjas there. The boy takes a shot at one and hits it directly in the face.

I flash back before I can see the whole thing. I pant and look around me. Everyone has their eyes on me. "Scar, are you alright?" Scott asks.

I sigh and shake my head. "Something is here. Something greater than any of us."
