It Was Always You

"Soo, when are you gonna make a move on him?" Amelia asked waving her hand in front of Y/n's face in hopes of ending her daydream. She had been staring at the same guy the entire break, barely touching her food. This is how every break pretty much went, she'd be in another world while Amelia would be having one sided conversations about her day.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"C'mon you've had a crush on Eddie for how long?"

"2 years." Y/n whispered in response, dropping her head in shame. Amelia groaned in frustration, obviously getting annoyed at her friends lack of confidence just to tell someone she liked them. "I'm not gonna humiliate myself in front of the hottest guy at our school."

"He's cute but that's pushing it." Her comment earned a punch on the shoulder from Y/n which caused them both to burst into laughter. For the rest of lunch, Y/n went on about how perfect Eddie was. His smile, his rings, his hair, everything really and that he was no where near a freak like everybody said he was. At this point Amelia was used to it so she sat there nodding every time.

School had ended about fifteen minutes ago and Amelia was now carefully walking along a thin dirt path behind the school, which finally led her to an opening where a table was. She hurried over, sitting down on one of the benches where she waited for a few minutes. Eventually the person she was supposed meet showed up, carrying a black lunchbox.

"Sorry I'm late." They apologised, making their way over to her before sitting down across from her. "Hey! You're Y/n's friend right, uhhh."

"Amelia."

"Amelia, well I'm Eddie but you obviously already know that." He dropped the box onto the wooden table, opening it up before tossing her a clear packet. Afterwards she dug through her bag until she found the money she had stashed away, handing it to him.

She thanked him, grabbing the weed and shoving it into her pocket. The usual blue sky was now replaced with dark stormy clouds which looked like they would burst at any second. If she wanted to get home safely the best thing to do was leave, now.

"You uh, need a ride home?"

"Actually, that would be great, thanks." She replied, grabbing her bag before following him out the woods and back into the parking lot. Y/n was right, he wasn't anything like what people said about him.

——

After struggling to fit all her books neatly into her locker, Y/n slammed it shut. Immediately getting a fright when she realised someone was leaning against another locker beside her. It didn't take long for her to relax though since it was none other than Eddie.

"Hey Eddie, how's your day been?" She attempted to make small talk to hide the fact her stomach was doing flips because of how close he was to her.

"Better now thanks to you."

This was it, this was her chance. There was enough of just the constant flirting between them, she wanted more. She had built up enough confidence to make a move and if she didn't do it now, what was the chance she'd ever be ready to again.

"Do you uh, maybe wan-"

"Y/n. Eddie." Amelia said, interrupting her and ruining their moment. The one moment where Y/n wasn't cowering at the thought of making a move on her crush. Perfect timing she thought, leaning back onto the locker, huffing in annoyance. "We still on for tonight Eddie?"

Y/n's head shot up faster than ever and her gaze fell onto Eddie who was already looking at her. There was something in his eyes that she couldn't quite figure out, pity or disappointment maybe. Although she brushed that thought away because why would he be feeling that way?

"Uh, yeah." Eddie could feel the awkward tension that now circulated around the three of them so he said goodbye before leaving the two friends alone.

Y/n looked anywhere but at Amelia. First of all, she was confused about what was happening tonight. What were they going to do and why didn't she know about it? Second of all, she was slightly embarrassed as she remembered what she was going to ask Eddie before they were rudely interrupted.

Luckily she didn't because it probably would've ended up as a rejection since he already had plans with a certain somebody. That certain somebody being her best friend. It may have all been a misunderstanding but for now it was safe to say something was going on between them two.

"I should get to class." Y/n said, holding her books close to her chest before turning away from Amelia to walk off. She ignored her friend's calls for her. Right now she didn't want to face her because she felt betrayed and hurt.

Amelia got every guy she wanted and Y/n just wanted one. One that Amelia didn't have to go through first. But it seemed that it wasn't possible.

——

Things only got worse after that day. Y/n would tell Amelia she was fine and that nothing was wrong, when clearly there was. Her best friend was always flirting with her crush, even when she was around. It was like she was invisible and that her feelings meant nothing.

How could anyone be so stupid like Amelia was. How could someone do something so stupid and still not realise that what they're doing is messed up. It made no sense! She had been Y/n's friend since kindergarten, they had done everything together, grew up together and here she was, betraying her. They were best friends. Were best friends.

"Guess what." Amelia said, a big grin plastered onto her face as she sat down with her tray of food. At this point Y/n had been more salty towards her, still upset about the fact she'd been hanging out with Eddie.

"What."

"Me and Eds are together." She almost yelled in excitement, glancing over at Eddie who was talking to his friends. "I know that you liked him, but I'm really happy Y/n, can you please be happy for me?"

"Sure, whatever."

"Why are you being so rude!" Amelia complained causing Y/n to scoff. "You're treating me like this, over a boy!"

"Fuck you." Is all Y/n said before grabbing her bag and leaving the cafeteria. If she stayed there any longer she probably would've burst into tears.

That moment was engraved into her mind ever since and that was about a month ago. From then on, she had been avoiding both Amelia and Eddie. Even though Eddie did nothing wrong, she just couldn't stand seeing the two of them together doing couple things. Like holding hands, sharing kisses or continuously flirting in the halls. It drove her insane and broke her heart a little more every time.

What did she do to deserve this? Was Amelia trying to get back at her for something she had no clue of or was she really just a sick bitch who happened to want the guy she'd been in love with for years. Either way she would never forgive her. How could she?

It was now a Friday afternoon which Y/n had been spending it by doing some homework at a diner while she sipped on a chocolate milkshake. The bells above the door rang as yet another customer entered. She didn't bother looking up since she was too focused on her work. That was until they slid into the seat in front of her.

"Just some fries please." They said when a waitress came over. Immediately, her heart rate started to pick up when she recognised their voice and honestly, she was terrified to look up. It was Eddie and the last thing she wanted was Amelia walking in too. "Can you stop avoiding me?"

"I'm not." Y/n harshly replied, shutting her book before stuffing it into her bag. "But I need to go."

"See this is what I'm talking about." He stood up with her, blocking the way which only pissed her off more. "At least finish your milkshake."

She sighed in defeat, slumping back down onto the booth. When he was sure she wouldn't try to leave again, he also sat back down, pushing her milkshake towards her. Taking another sip, she looked up at him, contemplating on what to say.

"When I'm done this, I'm leaving."

"Why are you avoiding me." He asked again, but this time more sternly. "Did I do something wrong, cause if I did I wanna know what it was so I can fix it."

"It doesn't matter Eddie."

"Yes it does!" He blurted out which made others around them go silent. Y/n was already embarrassed enough and she wanted nothing to do with him right now so she got up, grabbed her bag and left the diner. Eddie followed behind her, repeatedly yelling her name until she finally stopped in her tracks and turned to face him.

"Ever since me and Amelia got closer you've been so distant to us."

"God, how dumb can you get?" She retorted, throwing her hands up in the air. "Maybe it's because I've liked you since forever and she knew that but still decided to swoop in an-"

Halfway through her rant she was cut off when his lips collided with hers. Once she realised what was going on, she kissed him back until her senses came back to her which then she pushed him away.

"No, no, what about Amelia?"

"I forgot to mention, I ended things yesterday." He cupped her cheeks, making her look at him. "The things she was saying about you just didn't sit right with me and being with her made me realise how much I actually wanted you."

"What."

"It was always you Y/n."

This is what's pretty much happening to my friend which sucks so I decided to write her a happy ending but with Eddie and Y/n obviously 🤧

Glad she dropped her other friend!
