Insufferable

This one shot is quite a bit longer than usual, plus I'm a sucker for a bit of 'enemies to lovers' so enjoy!

Y/n had been with the band Corroded Coffin since 1988 which was now over eight years. For the first two years she was their manager, helping them fulfill their dreams and reach fame. Nearing the mark of two years with them, the band signed to a record label which was obviously a big success.

That same night, they had all gone out to celebrate at the nearest bar. Everyone ended up getting wasted, including Y/n. Let's just say, things got heated between her and a certain guitarist, ending up with them having a one night stand that they swore to never talk about again. Although it didn't go as planned.

The very next day Y/n was informed that she no longer had her job which was devastating for both her and the band since they were like family. It was hard having to say goodbye to them, but luckily for her, that wasn't goodbye.

A few weeks later, she found out that she was pregnant after missing her period. To make matters worse, the father was none other than the same lead guitarist, Edward Munson. Better known as Eddie.

She feared even the thought of breaking the news to him. The thing was, the two weren't exactly on best terms, in fact they never were. Over her time with Corroded Coffin, it was always a war between her and Eddie. They always found ways to insult each other or start an argument, even over the smallest of things. So having to coparent Ellie with him was hell.

There was rarely a time where the two weren't at each other's throats, trying to murder one another. The rest of the band had to get used to it over the years and eventually they did. Like right in this moment.

Gareth was sitting on the couch watching something whilst Eddie and Y/n were arguing behind him. The others went out earlier so he was stuck with the two 'lovebirds', hoping he wouldn't be included into their antics. He hated when he had to choose a side because then he would be afraid the other would murder him in his sleep. They were insufferable

"You are so selfish!" Y/n yelled, poking her finger at Eddie's chest, her eyes boring into his. "Can you not bring home a girl for at least one night!"

When she had arrived at Eddie's place to pick Ellie up this morning, she 'bumped' into his special guest who was half dressed, walking around the place as if she was unaware that there was child staying there.

It was disgusting and rude. What if the Ellie had heard or seen things that would scar her for life. Y/n didn't need that for her daughter and she thought Eddie would have at least a little common sense and self respect to realise the mistake.

"You're overreacting! Ellie was fine, she was asleep the entire time."

"You are insufferable!" Y/n spat, removing her finger from his chest so she could cross her arms. To say she was frustrated, was the understatement of the year. "If you want to keep seeing Ellie then you better start cleaning up your act!"

"You know she's still my kid." He retorted, taking a step closer to Y/n when she stepped back in silence. "I'm still her dad."

"Then start acting like it." For a while they held intense eye contact which even Gareth could feel as he tried his best to ignore it and focus on the tv. Eventually it was too much for him so he decided to cut in and get them to take the arguing elsewhere.

"Would you guys mind pissing off?" Gareth said, turning around to look at them.

"Shut up!" Both Eddie and Y/n yelled in response, causing the drummer to throw his hands up in surrender. The last thing he wanted was them coming after him next. When they riled each other up, the best idea was to stay as far away from them as possible.

"Quit sleeping around, I don't want that influence on Ellie." Y/n spat, grabbing her keys from the countertop once she was satisfied with Eddie's reaction. Then when he had nothing to say, she called for their daughter who came running out her room with a bag over her shoulder. "Let's go get something to eat, since your father hasn't fed you yet."

"Yeah, because you've been up my arse the entire morning."

She ignored him as she walked down the hall, Ellie's hand in hers. Just before they walked out to leave, Eddie said goodbye to his daughter, crouching down to give her a hug. Y/n rolled her eyes, telling Ellie it was time to go when the hug lasted a bit longer than needed.

"Don't give your mom too much trouble sweetheart!"

Once they made it to the car and Ellie was safely buckled up in her seat, Y/n made sure the little girl wasn't looking when she flipped Eddie off. He winked in return before walking back inside and shutting the door behind him.

"What do you want for breakfast Ellie?"

———

Y/n was navigating her way through the crowd with Ellie in her arms. The little girl was looking around, hoping to spot her dad somewhere so she could say hello. He had just finished one of their smaller 'secret' shows and they had come to watch it.

There was not one second that Ellie wasn't staring at him in awe. To her, Eddie was the coolest dad ever, even if he made stupid mistakes. Obviously she was still too young to realise that but maybe that was a good thing. That gave him time to learn how to be a better parent.

"Look mommy, there he is!" She cheered, pointing her finger out in front of them where he was patting Gareth's shoulder. As they approached him, another blonde girl popped out of no where and started a conversation with him. Y/n couldn't help but groan in annoyance when she had her hands on his chest.

"Go get your dads attention." Y/n whispered into her ear, carefully placing her onto the ground so she could run over to him. When Eddie saw his daughter running over, he immediately dropped down to her height so he could pick her up.

The other girl looked rather uncomfortable, not knowing whether it was his child or not. If it was that might've meant the mother was nearby. Her questions were soon answered when Y/n joined them, a smirk plastered on her face.

"Are you two a th-"

"No." Y/n cut her off, glancing over at Eddie who was silently standing there.

He hated when Y/n was around any of the girls he was seeing or sleeping with because she always had to make a scene. Whether it was her insulting them, or completely humiliating him. It was like she wanted him to be alone forever and never be happy. If so, then it was working but for a different reason.

"If you're busy I'll take Ellie home now."

"You know what, I feel like some ice cream." Eddie blurted, his gaze drifting to Y/n who didn't seem interested at all. Why would she? Spending time with him wasn't something that she found exciting. They would probably end up arguing over something like usual.

"No, it's fine, you have fun with her."

"Don't be silly, let's get ice cream." He repeated, a little sterner this time as if he really wanted to have an excuse to leave. The random blonde girl still had her hands on Eddie's arm, rubbing it to try and get his full attention which Y/n didn't like. Usually she didn't care if there were ten different girls all over him but right now she wanted nothing more than to cut that girls hands off.

"You know what, sure." Without wasting another second, she grabbed Eddie's free arm and tugged him along with her. He didn't even get time to say goodbye to the other girl who just stood there awkwardly. Not that he cared anyways, his full attention was on Y/n.

"What made you change your mind so suddenly?" He asked, putting Ellie's seatbelt on before getting into the passenger seat. "Was it that other chick? Cause don't worry, my eyes were only on you sweetheart."

"No, I just think it would be good for you guys to spend time with each other." She explained, avoiding eye contact so he wouldn't be able to tell that it wasn't exactly the full truth. Of course they needed to have father, daughter time, but just the thought of another girls hands on him made her sick to the stomach. Exactly why she felt that way, still wasn't clear to her.

"If you say so."

"I do, now shut up before I leave you on the side of the road!"

Surprisingly, the entire time they managed not to argue over anything else. That's if them bickering about the best ice cream flavour didn't count. They may have been in their thirties, but both of them were still children at heart, or at least when they were around each other.

It's almost like they were made for each other. Gareth always said they were, and even made a bet that eventually, they would get together. As time passed by, the others began to doubt him more but he never let go of that tiny hope that they would.

"You know, you didn't have to do this today." Y/n quietly said breaking the rarely occurring comfortable silence, since Ellie was asleep in the back seat. She had a lot of fun which is why she was so exhausted now.

"What do you mean? Of course I did, she's my daughter." He replied, a little more loudly then Y/n. It was impossible to go a few hours without them having a go at each other. The only thing keeping it from escalating, was their daughter in the back, sleeping blissfully behind them. "I know I've made mistakes, but I still love her."

"Eddie, that's not what I meant."

"Yeah, well a lot of the things you say are insulting so I wouldn't be surprised."

"Not my fault you can't handle a little constructive criticism." Y/n argued as the car came to a stop outside of Eddie's place just in time before things got heated. Immediately after, Eddie got out the car, closing the door carefully even though he really felt like slamming it. He then stormed around to the other side where she sat.

"Constructive? I can't do anything without you commenting on it."

"That is not true." She double checked that Ellie was still asleep and luckily she was. If she woke up now, there was no doubt she would be in a mood for the rest of the day, much like her father. So she locked the doors and reversed the car, making sure to flip Eddie off before driving off.

The next few days they had not spoken a word to each other, otherwise it would only end in chaos. Although, today was the day both of them had been dreading. The usual Saturday where Y/n dropped their daughter off at Eddie's house.

It's one of the times where they had to talk to each other. She had to tell him whether Ellie had been in a mood that day, what food she was craving or what time she would pick her up a couple days later.

What was even worse, was that they had ended on bad terms after getting ice cream together. Fortunately, they had plenty of time to cool down so hopefully a quick five minute conversation and catch up would go smoothly.

"You wait here sweetheart, I'm gonna go check up on your dad first." Y/n said, placing a kiss to Ellie's forehead. When the little girl nodded happily, she walked over to his door, knocking on it as loud as possible. A few seconds later, it swung open, revealing a very tired looking Eddie. "You look like shit, and smell like shit."

"Thanks for your unwanted input." He spat back, squeezing his eyes shut before opening them wide after.

"Let me guess, up all night fucking some groupie?"

"Is that what you take me for?" Eddie questioned, trying his best not to seem hurt by her comments. Sometimes he wished she saw him differently. He tried so hard to grow up as he grew older, find that right person so he didn't constantly have a new girl in his bed everyday. It's just, the right person saw him as nothing more than an idiot. "God you're insufferable."

"Did I hurt your feelings Eddie?" She teased, clearly oblivious to the way he felt inside. "Tell me I'm wrong."

"No you're actually right, she's still in my room as we speak." There was no girl in his room, he was only messing with her but it was especially amusing since she didn't realise that.

"You motherfu-!" Y/n tried to push past him, her fists clenched. Right now she wanted nothing more than to blow off some steam by yelling at either him, the girl in his room or both of them.

But Eddie had other plans, grabbing her by the waist to pull her back. Then when she turned around in confusion, he cupped her cheeks and pulled her in for a passionate kiss and for some reason, Y/n didn't pull away.

After so many years of feeling so much anger and 'hatred' towards one another, they were finally putting it to use. So neither of them stopped, in fact, if Ellie wasn't sitting in the car waiting for them, they probably would've taken it further.

"Marry me." Eddie said after pulling away for air. He'd been in love with her for years, for the most part he doubted she felt the same, but the kiss they had just shared said otherwise.

"But I thought I was insufferable?"

"You are, but so am I." He replied, putting their foreheads together. "So please, do me the honour and be insufferable with me?"

"I'd love to."
