Valentine

I know it's a bit early, but happy Valentine's Day! 🥳🥳

Great, it was probably the worst day of the year, Valentine's Day. The one day where everyone acted all sappy and cheesy. Buying each other gifts like chocolate and jewellery. Writing love letters to one another and sticking them in their locker or bag.

Everywhere you look there's people holding hands, hugging or they've got their tongue down someone's throat. There's no way to escape it, no matter how hard you try. It sucked.

Maybe that was because Y/n had never had a valentine before. So she was probably jealous of everyone else who got to spend it with the one they loved the most. Although that would be a very good reason to hate the day.

If just one person asked her, maybe she wouldn't be the grinch of Valentine's Day. Maybe her opinion would change and she'd instead love it. Or maybe she'd just say no and continue to despise all the gifts and PDA. Guess she'll never know.

"C'mon, don't be so gloomy, I'm sure someone will ask you." Liv said, trying to lift Y/n's spirit. She knew how much her best friend hated this day. After nearly ten years dealing with it, she was getting tired. Of course she felt pity on her, which is why she was always positive that someone would ask her. It hadn't happened yet, but she was sure someone would.

"I doubt that." Y/n replied, standing beside Liv in front of her locker.

"Watch out or I'll hit you." Liv warned, putting in the code before swinging the locker door open. Since Y/n had only taken a step back, she was still in line with the locker, meaning all the pink and red confetti flew out, getting her directly in the face.

People around them who had witnessed it began to laugh, making Y/n's cheeks even redder. This had to have been one of the most embarrassing things, getting it all in her hair and on her face. Worst part about it, was the it wasn't even for her! It was for her best friend.

"Sorry about that Y/n." Jake apologised, coming up behind Liv before wrapping his arms around her waist. "I was expecting someone else to be standing there."

"Don't worry about it, you guys have fun." She gave the lovebirds a tight lipped smile before walking off through the busy halls. If she spent another second surrounded by couples, she'd crack.

There was only one place that she knew wouldn't be filled with them. Well that's if the only other person who ever went there didn't have his own valentine. It was worth a shot, for some piece and quiet.

After leaving the school grounds, Y/n followed the dirt path that led further into the woods. She then arrived at her destination. A wooden table and two benches in the middle of the small grass field. Taking a breath of relief, she took a seat, swinging her legs over.

Other than the one pathway she followed, there were trees all around. Plus there was no one else here right now, so she'd gotten lucky. Maybe she would just stay here all day until Valentine's Day was over, that way she wouldn't have the need to puke 24/7.

Suddenly her attention was drawn behind her when she heard the sound of a twig snap. She quickly looked over a shoulder scared to find out who was behind her, but she immediately relaxed when realising who it was.

"Didn't mean to startle you sweetheart." Eddie said, throwing his hands up in the air. He then sent her a smile before walking over to the bench to take a seat opposite her. "What you doing here alone?"

"I got sick of the lovey dovey shit." She answered honestly, resting her hands on her lap where her gaze had fallen to. "Like I hate this day so much, I wish I there was like a grinch, but specifically for today."

"What if I told you there was." Eddie rested his head in the palm of his hands while smirking at her. When she tilted her head in confusion he started to explain what he meant to her. "You know how they always have that box that people put love letters and shit in?"

"Yeah."

"Well this morning I got here early, snuck into Mr Higgins office and changed them so they weren't as sweet and romantic." His smirk turned into a massive grin as he was very proud of himself and Y/n was impressed to say the least.

"Seriously!?" She blurted out in disbelief, planting both her hands onto the table. He nodded his head before fiddling with the rings on his fingers. "We should just like ruin Valentine's for everyone."

"That's a great idea sweetheart." Eddie concurred, hopping up from his seat so he could make his way over to the side Y/n was sitting at. "I have the perfect way to do that, skip school with me?"

He held his hand out in front of her which she grabbed without hesitation. She followed him back down the dirt path into the parking lot where they both got into his van. As he drove off she questioned where they were going but he didn't give her a proper answer. Only telling her to wait and see.

After about a ten minute drive, he parked on the side of the road. About a block away from them were a bunch of cafes which she assumed was their destination. Eddie told her to stay seated as he got out of the van. He then rushed over to her side and opened the door for her, lending her his hand.

"Thank you kind sir."

They walked over to the closest Cafe, getting a menu before sitting at one of the tables. There were a bunch of other couples around their age sitting around them, enjoying food together. All of them holding hands under the table, or feeding each other. It was gross.

Although there was one couple that caught her eye in particular. The guy Peter went to their school and he had a girlfriend. Only thing was, the girl he was with wasn't her. Guess skipping was the perfect way to get away with it.

That's when an excellent idea popped into Y/n's idea. She waved at Eddie, telling him to come closer so she could whisper it in his ear. When he understood what her plan was he agreed, sitting back down across from her. Y/n scanned the area around them, eying Peter before focusing her attention back on the boy in front of her.

"I can't believe he's here with someone else." She whispered loudly, glancing at some guys around them. "I can't wait to tell her how he's spending Valentine's Day with some other girl."

"She deserves better." Eddie added, trying his hardest to contain his laughter. If anything they, were doing something good. They may have been ruining someone's Valentine's Day, but at this point that very same person didn't deserve it to be a good day anyways.

"Can't wait to see her reaction." Y/n said a bit more louder than everything else they had been saying. When they looked back at Peter he was whispering things with the girl before standing up and leaving. She followed behind him in frustration. Guess their plan had worked. "I feel like we should actually tell his girlfriend though."

"Maybe, we'll worry about that later." Eddie replied, looking down at the menu before him. Come to think of it, he was actually pretty hungry, they both were. "What would the lady like?"

"I don't know, let's see."

——

For the next couple hour while they were sitting at the cafe, they ate their food, occasionally throwing small crumbs near other peoples tables. It would draw the attention of pigeons nearby so there would be a swarm of them annoying the couples around them. Yeah, maybe it was a little mean, but it was also a little funny.

To be honest, all of it was improvisation. Eddie didn't have a clue on what they were going to do when he asked her earlier to skip. He just wanted an excuse to hangout with her. They had been friends since middle school and he had always had a small crush on her. So this was the perfect way to get closer to her.

"Hey um, Y/n can I ask you something?" Eddie said nervously breaking the comfortable silence as they walked back to his van.

"Sure."

"I know you're like, 'I hate Valentine's Day and any lovey dovey things' and shit like that," He stopped midway through his sentence, trying to think of how to continue what he was saying. "And I know there's only like half a day left of today, but uh do you like wanna, you know, be my valen-"

"Yes." She cut him off, stopping by his van with a smile on her face.

"Wait, really?"

Yes, she had been waiting forever just for someone to ask her. No, she didn't only say yes because she was desperate. Obviously she only wanted someone to ask her if she was at least semi attracted to them. Luckily for them both, Y/n was very attracted to Eddie. There was just something about him, and after the first half of this day, she was even more drawn to him. Maybe he could help her change how she felt about this day.

"I'd love to be your Valentine."
