Bet

Y/n was messing around with the record player, different bands being blasted throughout the trailer. Her and Eddie were supposed to go out today but he had been taking an awfully long time in the shower. That's why she was occupying herself with whatever was laying around.

Except his guitar obviously. She knew how much he loved that thing and that he wouldn't hesitate to murder her if she damaged it. Not that she blamed him, it was a beautiful instrument which she wouldn't want destroyed either.

Just as she was about to place another record on, someone behind her cleared their throat, startling her at first. When she realised it was Eddie, she spun around holding the disc behind her back.

"I-I was um just." Y/n struggled to explain herself, mainly because he was standing in front of her with only a towel wrapped around his waist. Water droplets were dripping down from his hair strands and his toned stomach was the only thing she could focus on.

"You were just what?" He teased, looking down at her with a smirk on his face. "And when did you get here?"

"A while ago, I let myself in because you were taking too long." Her gaze remained directly on the floor so she wouldn't slip up and keep gawking at him. God knows Eddie loved that. "Well um, hurry up and get finished."

"Yes ma'am." He gave her a two finger salute before heading back into the bathroom. Again she started to play the music to fill her boredom. There was no doubt he would take ages to do his hair until it was 'perfect'.

For about another ten minutes Y/n listened to the music waiting patiently for Eddie to finish up. Finally he did, with his usual outfit that consisted of his vest and a band t-shirt. She didn't expect him to wear anything else because he rarely did.

"Look who's finally ready!"

"I didn't take that long." He argued defensively, quickly fixing his hair as he approached Y/n standing in the kitchen with her arms crossed. Regardless of whether she was just joking, he hated when she looked even remotely mad, so he walked over to her cupping her cheeks. "Don't be mad at me."

"If you come to a party with me tomorrow night I won't." She knew his first answer would most likely be no, but she also knew that he'd have a hard time following through that decision. He hated parties with a burning passion. There were always so many people there that he had never liked so what was the point, other than the food of course. "Please?"

"Fine. Only for you sweetheart."

"Thank you." Wrapping her arms around his neck, Y/n thanked him, pulling him in for a quick kiss but he connected their lips again wanting more. Before things got too heated, she pushed him off her which then he started pouting, missing the feeling of her touch. "We have a date remember! We can continue this later Eddie."

"Happily." She winked at him before heading over to the door so that they could finally leave. "Wait for me!"

———

The party wasn't as bad as Eddie expected, he was also surprised that he didn't get told to fuck off when he showed up to the door. It was probably because he had showed up with Y/n and she was 'popular'.

Most of the time he stuck by Y/n's side, afraid that if he lost sight of her, some jocks might jump him or something. It always used to happen before they got together, now not as much but there have been a couple times. At least those jocks got what they deserved when she found out.

If he wasn't with her, he was hanging around with Gareth or Jeff who also snuck in. They almost got kicked out at one point but luckily Y/n came to the rescue, demanding that they stayed. Sometimes her being popular with the jocks and cheerleaders came in handy, otherwise he would've been long gone tonight.

That didn't mean he was enjoying himself. God forbid he enjoyed something like a high school party, but it was bearable. Only since he was with Y/n. He got to show her off and remind everyone that she was his so they could all piss off and find someone else.

"What you thinking about?" Y/n asked, leaning her head on his shoulder whilst he tapped the red plastic cup in his hand. He had zoned out for a couple minutes whilst she was talking to some other people sitting on the couches around them.

"You." He whispered, placing a kiss to her temple.

"What about me?"

"Just how I was so lucky to get you."

When Eddie said that Y/n felt a pang of guilt as he smiled lovingly at her. He seemed so happy, he seemed so in love with her and it killed her. Deep down she hated herself and seeing him like this just made her hate herself more. She couldn't let him get suspicious so she quickly replaced her frown with a fake smile.

"It wasn't luck." She replied, feeling the need to remove herself and put some distance between them. "I'm gonna get a refill, be back in a bit."

Eddie waved her goodbye, lifting his legs up onto the couch before turning the tv on. The others around him weren't jocks or cheerleaders so he felt a bit more comfortable and safe around them for the time being.

While he was relaxing and watching a movie, Y/n had got caught up when she was pouring herself a drink. Gareth had popped out of no where and started a conversation with her. For the first couple minutes it seemed to be fine until he had brought something up that caught her off guard.

"So, when you gonna tell him."

"Sorry, what?" She questioned, putting her cup down on the counter. Confused was a great way to describe how she felt right now, but she was curious at the same time. "I'm not following."

"The bet."

Right now, she didn't want to deal with this, she felt terrible already and couldn't handle anymore guilt. She wasted no time walking off, pushing past the crowd till she found a more empty room to gather her thoughts.

Unfortunately, Gareth had followed closely behind, determined to get an answer out of her. This was his best friend they were talking about and he didn't want him to get hurt. Anymore than he would be once he found out.

"Leave me alone, please."

"No, not until you tell Eddie." He complained, standing in front of her so she couldn't leave the room.

"Tell me what?"

"You gonna tell him, or me?" Gareth never really trusted Y/n and for a damn good reason so he would have no remorse doing anything she didn't agree with. It was Eddie who he cared about. When she had been taking too long, his patience had grown thin. "I guess I will."

"Gareth please, don't."

"You ever wonder why someone like Y/n would date you?" Gareth spat, glancing between the two. Eddie replied with 'pure luck' thinking that this was just a little argument that his best friend and girl friend were having like usual. He knew they didn't like each other. "You're a fucking bet Eddie, a fucking bet she made with her cheerleading friends."

"Eddie, please just let me explain." Y/n begged, stepping towards him which caused him to take a step back.

"Is that true?" He asked calmly, hoping it was just some joke that they were playing on him. "Answer me."

"There's a lot to it, if you'll just let me explain."

"Yes or no." That's the only answer he needed to hear, whether it was true or not. Nothing more, nothing less. "Yes or no Y/n!"

"Yes, Yes! It is, I mean it was." She stuttered, trying to find the words to explain it so it didn't seem as bad as it was. What was she thinking? Of course it was bad, it was cruel and messed up and she beat herself up everyday for it.

Eddie ran his hand through his hair, tugging at the strands while he tried to calm himself down. He just wanted to go home, he didn't want to draw any attention to himself even though he really wanted to yell at Y/n right now. Who could blame him?

Nothing was said from Gareth or Eddie, only Y/n who was pleading for him to wait and let her explain, but he wasn't having any of it. Instead, he stormed out the room and shoved past everyone till he got to the front door and out onto the street.

"Eddie! Please! Just let me talk."

"What the fuck is there to talk about?" He yelled, stopping in his tracks. "I'm a bet, for fuck sakes, I'm a god damn bet, you're all the same, I should've known."

That felt like a stab in Y/n's chest, but that must've been nothing compared to how Eddie felt right now. There were tears running down her face, she wanted him to listen to her so badly. She wanted him to say he forgave her so badly even though it wouldn't happen.

"I was gonna tell you, I swear!" She cried, looking around them to see they were thankfully alone outside. They had ended up quite a distance from the house and were currently a few meters away from Eddie's van. "I wanted to, I just knew this was how you'd react!"

"I'm leaving, so stay the fuck away from me." He ignored her protests and cries as he got into his van and drove off. By now they were both in tears. This was not how either of them expected the night to go but here they were.

"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" Y/n swore, kicking rocks around her, anything to get her anger and frustration out. Everything was ruined and it was all her fault. She was a terrible person, and she would never forgive herself for what she did to Eddie. What was going on in her mind when she had excepted the bet.

Of course Eddie had to be such a great guy. He was an amazing guy and that's why she actually ended up falling for him. Halfway through she mostly forgot about the bet, or if someone brought it up she would pretend that's all it was when in reality it was so much more.

It was one of those stupid teen romance movies. The ones Y/n thought were so unbelievably bullshit. Now she was basically in one with no idea how to fix things with him. If only she never accepted that goddamn bet.
