Prom Night pt 2

Eddie sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the black blazer that was hung up on the wall. He remained in that position for a few minutes while playing with the many rings on his fingers. After shoving away any doubts in his mind, he took a deep breath in before springing up. Running his hands over the fabric, he slipped it off the coat hanger to put it on.

He then spun around to face his mirror, checking how it looked with everything else. Surprisingly, it all came together giving him a rockstar kind of look which is what he wanted. Underneath his blazer was a plain black shirt along with his guitar pick necklace around his neck and some knee rip jeans.

Once he had enough of staring at himself, he walked over to his drawers where he had stashed Y/n's bracelet. He had to keep it, but he couldn't bare seeing it everyday which is why it was hidden away. All the guilt would just come flooding back and then he'd fall back into the same cycle that he was stuck in right after her disappearance. It wasn't healthy to say the least.

His thoughts were interrupted when there was a loud knock on the door. Snatching the bracelet from the drawer, he put it onto his wrist and pulled his sleeve over to cover it. Then he grabbed his keys before heading over to the source of the knocking.

The second he swung open the door there Gareth stood wearing a simple tuxedo and a smile upon his face. They both agreed they would only go if the other went as well. Plus, the only real reason Eddie was going was for Y/n. If she didn't get to go, the least he could do for her was, show up and try to have some fun.

"That looks really metal."

"Thanks." Eddie replied, locking the door behind him before they walked over to his van. Immediately Gareth knew that his friend was thinking about Y/n. He didn't blame Eddie knowing how much she meant to him and how much this night meant to her.

The best thing he could do was try to take Eddie's mind off of her and help him have some fun. He didn't really plan on how he'd achieve that considering that Eddie didn't have a date and Prom was far from his idea of 'fun'. Oh well, what was the worst that could happen?

Eventually they made it to the school after a long ride filled with an awkward silence. Everyone was entering the school with their friends and dates, all dressed up fancy with suits and dresses. Eddie wanted nothing more than to get back into his van and drive the hell out of there, but the sympathetic look on Gareth's face and the constant reminder that Y/n was gone stopped him.

This was for her. Is what he told himself as he straightened his suit and fixed his hair. Then when he built up enough confidence, he started walking towards the crowd with Gareth following closely behind him. Once they entered the hallway it got even more louder with everyone engaged in their own conversations.

"Here goes nothing." Gareth placed his hand on Eddie's shoulder, patting it before his attention was drawn up ahead. It was his date Liz, calling for him as she tried her best to navigate her way through the crowd. After a bit of a struggle she finally reached them, pulling both boys in for a hug and giving Gareth a kiss on his cheek.

"You boys look great!"

"Shall we go in?" Gareth questioned, glancing over at Eddie who seemed to have zoned out again. Liz gave him an apologetic smile once he snapped back to reality.

"Right sorry, yeah." Is all he managed to say before leading them into the beautifully decorated hall. A bunch of couple were already in the middle dancing with each other whilst others occupied some of the tables. Then in the distance was a nice large table full of different snacks and a massive punch bowl. Eddie knew exactly where he was going. "You guys dance or whatever, I'll be over there."

He pointed towards the food, not giving them chance to reply as he was already hastily making his way there. That's where he stayed for the next thirty minutes, watching everyone dance and have the time of their lives.

No matter what he did, he just couldn't stop thinking about her. How amazing she would've looked in the same dress her mom wore to prom when she was back in high school. Or the massive grin on her face because she was finally living the dream she had always talked about. It was all his fault that she wasn't here tonight and that was all too much for him.

When Gareth and Liz retreated to the table for food, Eddie explained how this just didn't feel right without her so he was going home. They felt terrible but knew that there was no changing his mind. After saying goodbye, he was about to start making his way to the exit, until someone he didn't expect entered.

There Y/n stood at the entrance wearing the most stunning dress he'd ever seen and her hair done up to compliment her face. She was even more gorgeous then he remembered and if he wasn't holding onto the food table for support, he probably would've fallen forward onto his knees.

A smile spread onto her face once she spotted him across the hall. Ignoring all the astonished and confused looks written on everyone's face, she started walked over to Eddie. He then met her halfway, wrapping his arms tightly around her afraid that he'd lose her again if he didn't.

"I'm seeing things right now aren't I?" He cried, looking up to see her shaking her head. There were hundreds of questions running through his mind. How was this possible, how was this real? "W-what, what happened to you, where have you been?"

"I'll tell you later, but it's prom night." She said, grabbing his forearms in attempts to calm him down. It was helping him a little, but not the crowd surrounding them that were currently staring and whispering things to each other. "You don't have a date right?"

"Well uh, no?"

"Great, dance with me?" Y/n offered, dragging him onto the dance floor after he hesitantly nodded. If she hadn't just shown up unexpectedly after missing for years maybe he'd be super excited to be so close to her and do things that 'couples' normally did. But she had, and right now dancing was the last thing on his mind. Understanding how this was possible was his main priority.

"You don't understand how much I missed you." Eddie said, trying his best not to cry in the middle of prom. Y/n didn't know what else to do but give him a smile before wrapping her arms around his neck to pull him closer.

The songs that were being played were much slower now which was probably for the best. No one was really in the mood to jump around after what just happened.

For a bit they danced, catching up on the little things that hopefully wouldn't bring tears to their eyes, until Y/n needed to go to the toilet. They both went over towards the doors where Eddie would wait for her to get back.

Picking up her dress, she rushed down the hall, not wanting to keep Eddie waiting. Once she reached the door, she pushed it open going to the toilet before heading back over to the sink to wash her hands. She was about to leave when someone else entered the bathroom, pushing her back.

"What, the fuck is going on!" Sarah yelled shoving her against the wall, grabbing Y/n by the neck. She comes back and her bullies still around, being well, a bully! "This can't be happening, you fell, no one can survive that!"

Y/n was struggling to loosen the girls grip so she lifted her hands up higher to her face. Pushing  into Sarah's eye, it gave the girl no choice but to let go of Y/n which gave her a chance to get out of there.

"You bitch!" Sarah yelled, chasing after her. They had made it out into the hallway before Y/n was tackled to the ground. This night was going great, wasn't it?

——

Eddie was standing near the entrance of the hall. He had been constantly checking his watch, wondering what was taking Y/n so long to go to the toilet. Just as he looked back up someone shoved past him, coming to a sudden halt.

"Fight!" Is all she yelled before spinning around, running back out the way she came from. The previous song had come to an end which meant everyone had heard. Y/n hadn't gotten back and the girl had ran off in the same direction as the toilets.

"Shit!" Eddie cursed running ahead of the crowd out into the hallway where he saw two girls on the ground struggling. He wasted no time rushing over to them to pull the rogue girl off Y/n before she got seriously injured.

For a minute he managed to hold her back so Y/n could get up but it didn't last any longer than that when he felt a pair of arms wrap around him. The next thing he knew he was being thrown to the ground by none other than Sarah's long term boyfriend Paul.

"Don't touch her you freak!"

"Well then control her for fuck sakes!" Eddie retorted, getting back up on his feet before fixing his blazer. Without warning, Paul started running at him and he was pissed. "Fuck!"

——

"That went well." Eddie groaned, putting the ice pack to his eye that would surely bruise after what had happened. "Now, care to explain what you and Hopper over there were discussing about, and where the fuck you've been!?"

"That's, a great idea."

Y/n started explaining to him about that afternoon she left his house. How she was walking her usual way home when she was 'cornered' by the same bullies who had attacked her in the bathroom. Them being bullies, they took things a bit too far, like practically pushing her off a god damn cliff! And they obviously didn't want to go to jail for pretty much murdering someone so it was never talked about until they realised she was still alive.

Even Y/n was confused about that part. She had woken up a couple days ago in a cabin that was situated somewhere in the woods but eventually found her way back and decided why not make some sort of entrance. Let people know she was still alive, or mostly let Eddie know.

"Y/n, I am so god damn sorry!"

"Hey, hey Eddie you had no idea, it's fine." She tried to assure him, wrapping her arms around him as he nuzzled his head into her chest. "I'm here now."

"I should've known, I should've done something!"

"Please Eds, trust me, it's not your fault."

He finally looked up, his eyes becoming teary the longer he stared at her. Y/n had no idea what she was doing and she hoped it wouldn't make everything worse but she started leaning in until their lips met. She instantly relaxed when he started kissing her back and gently placed her hand on his cheek to deepen it. When she pulled away for air, they remained on the curb by the police station, just enjoying each other's company.

That was one hell of a prom night.

Sorry it was rushed because I didn't really know how I wanted it to go 😭
