Bruises (Peter Parker x reader) Future AU

(a/n: This could be read as fem!reader but it was unintentional. This is based on Train's "Bruises".)

Peter sighed as he put his phone back in his pocket. He wondered how life had managed to get him down. How had he, Spiderman, lost the woman he loved all those months ago? How had he gotten so much older? And he felt older than he actually was. He was so lost in thought, he didn't notice the person heading right toward him. He bumped into them. "Oh, I'm sorry!" he cried, but stopped when he saw a familiar pair of (e/c) eyes.

"Peter?" Peter stared for a moment. "Uh, yeah...wow. Y/N?" You grinned. "In the flesh. How are you?" Peter scanned your face. You didn't look much different than you did in high school. Your face had lost of its baby fat and you looked more mature, but other than that, you still looked as beautiful as you had back then. Back when you and Peter were really close.

"I'm good. How's life been?" You bit your lip and Peter knew you were debating on telling him. "Why don't we get a coffee?" You grinned. "Sure." There was an awkward silence for a minute. "You look incredible. Beautiful." You felt your cheeks heat up at his compliment. "Thanks. You look great."

You two grabbed your coffees and sat down. It was easy for you both to fall into conversation. It was nice for both of you just to be able to talk to someone. "You have kids?!" Peter asked in surprise and you chuckled. "Two. One that's five and one that's three." You smiled thinking about your two children. "And the dad?" You frowned. "Long gone."

Haven't seen you since high school
Good to see you're still beautiful
Gravity hasn't started to pull quite yet
Quite yet, I bet you're rich as hell

One that's five and one that's three
Been two years since he left me
Good to know that you got free
That town I know was keeping you down on your knees

These bruises make for better conversation
Loses the vibe that separates
It's good to let you in again
You're not alone in how you've been
Everybody loses, we all got bruises
We all got bruises

Peter almost breathed a sigh of relief knowing that he wasn't alone. It was good to realize that he wasn't the only one who had been struggling over the years. Not that he was happy to hear that the father of your children had left, but it was another subject you could talk about. It was good to know there was someone else as bruised and broken as he was.

"So what about you? Are you still with-?" Peter shook his head. "No. She's long gone. Living in Queens with the man of her dreams." You let out a snort before apologizing. "Sorry. She used to say that was you." Peter shrugged. You switched subjects quickly, ready to talk about something else. The two of you talked for hours until you had to go get your kids from daycare. Peter could see the little frown on your face, telling him that you felt the same. You didn't want your time together to end.

Have you seen him? Not in years
How about her? No but I hear
She's in Queens with the man of her dreams
Funny back then she said that about you

Caesura you'll never guess who I saw
Remember Johnny B remember him we were best friends, back to be
Let's do this soon again, ten years is that what it's been?
Can't believe how time flies by
Leaving you makes me wanna cry

These bruises make for better conversation
Loses the vibe that separates
It's good to let you in again
You're not alone in how you've been
Everybody loses, we all got bruises
We all got bruises

"Maybe we could do this again?" you asked and he grinned. "Yeah, of course." He began bouncing on the balls of his feet, making you laugh. Some things never changed. Peter was always going to be a nervous ball of energy. "Great. Here's my number. Call me." Then, just like old times, you leaned in and kissed his cheek. You turned and walked away, leaving Peter smiling after you. He couldn't wait to see you again. Maybe the two of you could help fix one another. Maybe, with you, Peter could be happy again.

I would love to fix it all for you
I would love to fix you too
Please don't fix a thing whatever you do

These bruises make for better conversation
Loses the vibe that separates
It's good to know you've got a friend
That you remember now and then
Everybody loses

These bruises make for better conversation
Loses the vibe that separates
It's good to let you in again
You're not alone in how you've been
Everybody loses,everybody loses, everybody loses
We all got bruises, We all got bruises, We all got bruises
