Swan Princess - pt. 2 (Loki x fem!reader) Movie-Based AU

Loki frowned as the spell finally dissipated. Loki had known Asgard was large, but he hadn't realize how large it was until he spent weeks following the tracking spell. If you were still on Asgard, why hadn't he found you yet? But the spell didn't lie. Loki knew that. He drew your necklace close to his chest and let his eyes scan the area. He didn't see you. Only a lake with a lone swan floating on the surface.

The sun began to set on the lake as Loki sank down on a fallen tree. He was still kicking himself. This was all his fault. He'd insulted you, causing you to run away and be taken. "What have I done, my love? What if I never find you?" Loki sat there with his head in his hands, the sun still descending below the horizon.

After crying his fill, Loki finally looked up. The moon was rising in the sky and reflecting off the lake. It was really a beautiful sight that Loki would have appreciated more if not for his current predicament. He let out a sigh and stood. You had to be around here somewhere. Just as he was about to turn away from the lake, a bright light came out of nowhere. Loki had to shield his eyes.

When the light was gone, so was the swan and in its place, there was you. "Loki," you whispered with tears in your eyes. "Y/N?" You laughed and waded out of the lake. Loki couldn't help but smile as you neared. "Darling!" he cried, scooping you into his arms and holding you close. "You found me," you said softly. Loki fought back his own tears and he held you. He didn't want to let you go in case you disappeared again. "What happened to you?"

You pulled away slightly to look in his eyes. Your bottom lip trembled as you explained. A sorcerer from your home realm had been trying to get you to marry him for years. You and your father had refused each time and now that you were of age and you marriage to Loki was quickly approaching, the sorcerer was growing desperate. He wanted control of your realm. He had hatched a plan to kidnap you and place you under a spell until you agreed to marry him.

Loki was furious. "We need to leave. Now." You shook your head and pulled further away. "I can't. Not until you figure out how to break the spell! When the sun comes up, I turn back in to a swan and if I'm not on the lake when it sets, I stay a swan." A noise sounded, putting you on guard. "Loki, go. He's coming. If he finds you here, he'll kill you." Loki tightened his grip on you. "I'll not leave you here." You gave him a sad smile. "I'll be alright. Go home and figure out how to break this spell. Then come back to me."

He knew it was pointless to fight with you. Not when you were in danger the way you were. "Alright. I'll go, but I promise I will return." You nodded and hugged him again. Loki sighed. His determination grew as you held him to you. "Please hurry." He pressed a kiss to your hair. "I will break this spell, Y/N. I swear it. And then, I shall spend every moment for the rest of our lives telling you how much I adore you."

Another noise had you pulling away again. "I know you'll figure this out, Loki. But you have to go!" Loki nodded and reluctantly turned to leave you. Before he disappeared, he looked back at you. He opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again. You smiled knowingly and whispered, "I know," as if you could read his mind. And you probably could. Loki felt the weight of his guilt being lifted off his shoulders at that. You understood how badly he felt and he knew that you realized how he hadn't meant the things he'd said before your capture.

Loki left as quickly as he could, eager to return to the palace to try and figure a way out of your predicament. He was beside himself for days as he worked. No one dared to bother him, not even Thor. Everyone could see just how determined the prince was to get you back safely.

Loki's only companions were the books he kept reading over and over again in earnest. Nothing was helping him. Loki was at a loss. He needed to see you again, but he refused to return to that lake until he found a way to help you. As it turned out, he wouldn't need to go back there.

One night, nearly two weeks after Loki had found you, Thor came bursting into the library. "Brother!" Loki had been falling asleep over his books and jumped at the sound of Thor's voice. The dark-haired prince didn't even have the energy to glare at his brother. "What is it?" Thor's smile just widened. "You need to come with me." Loki shook his head before turning back to his book.

Thor wouldn't take 'no' for an answer. "You'll not regret it, Loki. I swear it." Thor gripped Loki's arm and pulled him up. "Thor!" Thor didn't listen, continuing to pull Loki from the room and out toward the throne room. Loki protested the entire way there until Thor unceremoniously shoved him inside. Odin was on his throne with Frigga standing next to him. They wore identical smiles that they were bestowing upon a female visitor standing in front of the throne. The woman turned and Loki froze.

"Y-Y/N?" You grinned. Loki couldn't believe his eyes. How was it possible that you were standing right in front of him? "How?" You let out a shaky breath, the effort shaking your entire body. "I escaped as soon as the sun set. I couldn't stand it anymore. I've never been the damsel-in-distress type." Loki let out a laugh. It was true. You really had never been the type to wait for rescue.

Without waiting another moment, Loki gathered you in his arms and held you close. "My darling, forgive me." You let out a laugh. "There is nothing to forgive," you whispered. Loki sighed happily and let his gaze wander to the window. His brows furrowed. No moon. He pulled back from you to look at your face. You certainly looked like yourself, but something was off. A certain mischief that was always in your gaze was missing. Like a piece of you was missing. This wasn't you.

"Who are you?" Loki snapped, pushing the false you away from him. You smiled. "What do you mean, my prince? It's me...Y/N." Loki laughed bitterly. "Did you think you could lie to me?" he snarled, grabbing the deceiver by the throat. "Now, I ask again, who are you?" In a smoke of magic, the pretend you disappeared and a wicked looking man stood in your place.

"You are the one who stole her from me." The man grinned. It sent a nearly invisible shiver through Loki's spine. "Wrong. You stole her from me." Loki shook his head. "She was never yours. She isn't even mine. But I will fight for her until the very end. I will kill you." Once again, the man laughed and smiled. "You can try, my prince, but my magic far exceeds yours and Y/N is fading fast."

Loki's grip loosened just enough for the sorcerer to use his magic as escape. His voice called out, "If you hurry, I may let you see her one last time to say your final farewell." Loki didn't even look at his family before taking off toward the stables where his horse was waiting. He had to hurry.

Loki rushed as fast as he could toward the lake where he'd found you before. The swan was sitting on the bank of the lake, looking frail. "Y/N?" Loki clamored off his horse and ran over to you. Even as a swan, Loki could see the light leaving your eyes. "Such a pity. Such beauty gone to waste all because she left the safety of the palace."

Loki stood and faced the sorcerer with a look of pure rage. "Save her. Now." A shake of the head sent Loki spiraling. With a mere thought, Loki was donned in his armor, complete with horned helmet and staff. He attacked without a second thought. Your life was on the line. That was the only thing that mattered and he was going to save you if he could.

The battle was long. Loki sustained injuries and nearly died himself a time or two. But he refused to give up. It wasn't his nature. Not when someone he cared about was in danger. He fought as hard as he could and, in the end, he was victorious. But only just. When he was sure the sorcerer wasn't going to get up again, Loki ran back to where you had been lying.

You were still there, only human again, but you weren't moving. "Y/N?" Loki questioned softly. Was he too late? He sank down and took you in his arms. Your eyes were closed and you didn't appear to be breathing. "Darling?" Loki tried again. Nothing. Loki's eyes filled with tears and he pulled you against his chest. He let himself cry as he held you.

"I am so sorry, Y/N. I was too late to save you." His voice cracked and he had to stop talking for a few minutes. He rocked with you until he could speak again. "This is my fault. If I had only told you that I loved you all those months ago, you wouldn't have run off. Now, I shall never have the chance to tell you that I love you. More than you ever could have known. I do not believe I shall ever love another."

Loki's breath was shaky. So shaky, he didn't feel you starting to stir in his arms. He didn't hear the small groans you were letting out. He didn't hear anything until you softly said his name. At first, he wasn't sure he'd heard right. Then you spoke again. It was barely audible, but it was his name on your lips.

He slowly let you fall away from his chest so he could look at your face. Your (e/c) eyes were looking back up at him. He breathed your name in disbelief. You gave him a smile. "I love you too, Loki." For a second, Loki just stared and then, he started to laugh. He hugged you again, elated that you were really still alive.
