Superheroes (Steve Rogers x reader)

(a/n: Songfic! based on the song "Superheroes" by the Script.)

All the life she has seen
All the meaner side of me
They took away the prophet's dream
For a profit on the street

Now she's stronger than you know
A heart of steel starts to grow

All his life he's been told
He'll be nothing when he's old
All the kicks and all the blows
He won't ever let it show

'Cause he's stronger than you know
A heart of steel starts to grow

When you've been fighting for it all your life
You've been struggling to make things right
That's how a superhero learns to fly
Every day, every hour, turn the pain into power

When you've fighting for it all your life
You've been working every day and night
That's how a superhero learns to fly
Every day, every hour, turn the pain into power

Oh-oh, oh, oh
Oh-oh, oh, oh

Steve watched as you took down another agent in training. His mind went back to his pre-Captain America days, when he was a 98 pound weakling and everyone told he wouldn't amount to much. You had grown up in a similar situation, except it was your own parents that shot you down time and time again. Just like Steve, you were determined to prove them wrong. You trained harder than anyone Steve had ever seen.

You looked over at Steve and gave him a smile. He was, without a doubt, the strongest man you'd ever met and not just because he was Captain America. He was a hero, that much was true, but that wasn't why you found him strong. Against all odds, Steve fought for what was right. He had proven himself to everyone who had ever doubted him. He'd made something of himself and used the negative things others said as fuel.

All the hurt, all the lies
All the tears that they cry
When the moment is just right
You see fire in their eyes

'Cause he's stronger than you know
A heart of steel starts to grow

When you've been fighting for it all your life
You've been struggling to make things right
That's how a superhero learns to fly
Every day, every hour, turn the pain into power

When you've fighting for it all your life
You've been working every day and night
That's how a superhero learns to fly
Every day, every hour, turn the pain into power (power, power, power, power, power)

Steve moved to the punching bag, remembering every harsh word and every physical blow from his childhood. He remembered every time HYDRA or S.H.I.E.L.D tried to play mind games with him. With every hit to the bag, Steve was tackling his fears and insecurities. "Wanna talk about it, Cap?" your voice floated over the sound of his angry grunts. "Nope," was all he said. You nodded and said, "Just keep fighting, Steve. I know I am. My whole life." You turned and left the gym.

You knew Steve's story. Everyone did. You also knew how much strength it took to turn it all around. To use it to your advantage. Steve struggled the same as everyone else, sometimes even more so. However, you also understood that sometimes it takes getting pushed down into the mud in order to realize what all you can do and how to make things right.

(Power, power, power, power)
Every day, every hour turn the pain into power
(Power, power, power, power)

(Power, power, power, power)
Every day, every hour turn the pain into power

She's got lions in her heart
A fire in her soul he's a got a beast
In his belly that's so hard to control
'Cause they've taken too much hits, taking blow by blow
Now light a match, stand back, watch them explode

Oh, yes (power, power, power, power)
Every day, every hour, turn the pain into power
(Power, power, power, power) Ooh, yeah
Whoa (power, power, power, power)
Every day, every hour, turn the pain into power

When you've been fighting for it all your life
You've been struggling to make things right
That's how a superhero learns to fly

You and Steve were taking down HYDRA agents side by side, he was once again saving the world and for the first time, you were helping him. As strong as each of you were, you were stronger together. You had determination and a desire in your soul that couldn't be overpowered while Steve had the physical strength and his own moral code. Together, you were impossible to beat. A dangerous duo that no one expected from a skinny boy from Brooklyn and an emotionally damaged kid from (h/t).

After your first mission was asuccess, you realized that maybe you needed all that emotional baggage. Youneeded those insults and kicks to your self-esteem in order to be the hero thatSteve knew you could be. Without Steve's rough childhood, he never would havehad the determination to save the world again and again. It took all thoseblows to make you both the superheroes the world needed.n
