Close Call

We were on another case. A LDSK, long distance serial killer, in Detroit, Michigan.

So far we knew it was random. The victims had nothing in common besides living in the same area. The unsub was most likely a white male in his late 20's - early 30's who probably has previous experience with the police. Either he was a police officer or he was an offender.

We were reenacting the latest shooting at a park. I was right by Reid who was playing the last victim. I was playing the victim's wife. Honestly to me, the re-enactment didn't seem like the best idea but it was Hotch's and I'm not going to argue with him.

I saw him. At the top of nearby building. The unsub. The real one not the one in the re-enactment. He had his gun set up to shoot.

Instinct kicked in. I moved without thinking.

I yelled, "Reid get down!"

I stepped and move in front of Reid as a gun went off. I felt a piercing pain go through my chest.

Everything in my sight started to blur. I could fell myself starting to fall. Reid caught me and gently set me down. It was a good thing my shirt was red. You couldn't see the blood.

People were in frenzy. I couldn't tell what was going on. I saw Reid and Morgan nearby. Reid's hands had blood on them, my blood. He was probably freaking out. There was only one clear thing and that was Reid's voice.

Reid told me, "Y/n, stay with me. Don't close your eyes. Just stay with me okay"

I did my best to stay awake by holding onto Reid's voice. I wanted to stay. I didn't want to die. Not like this. I wasn't even the target.

An ambulance came quick and I was rushed on to a gurney. Everything was a blur. The flashing lights of the ambulance, the faces of the EMT's, the ride to the hospital, when I arrived there. It was all blurred together.

I went into immediate surgery. I was fine. I just got shot and nearly died. Okay maybe that's not fine but I lived. The bullet just missed my heart. I was lucky to be alive.

When I woke up, I was pretty drowsy from all the pain killers. I had an IV in me. Machines were tracking my heart beat. There was a visitor for me in my room, Spencer Reid.

"Doctor, she's awake" called out Reid.

He was looking fine. I on the other hand was not.

I had to ask, "Did you guys catch him?"

Reid responded, "Yeah, we did. Turns out he heard that his last victim was still alive and thought I was him in the re-enactment so he was going to kill me. You saved my life, Y/n"

"I wasn't about to let some LDSK take you out"

"But you almost died. Why? Why'd you endanger your life just to save mine?"

"Instinct I guess. I just moved without thinking about it"

Morgan walked in the room, "Reid, we gotta-" He noticed I was awake, "Oh you're awake now. Sorry but we gotta go. We've got another case"

"Already?" Questioned Reid.

"Yeah, a serial arsonist in Miami"

I told them, "Sounds fun. However I think I don't think I'll be joining you guys. I've got other things to do like you know recovering from being shot"

Hotch came in, "Come on, we have to go. The jet leaves in half an hour"

"We know. Just let him say bye first"

"I'm going out to the car, just meet me there"

Morgan left with Hotch to go to the car. It was just me and Reid.

Spencer said, "I'm sorry I have to go, Y/n"

I told him, "I know and I get it. Our work is important"

"Good bye, Y/n. I hope to see you again soon and uh thanks for saving my life"

"No problem"

I was sad when he left but I knew he had to go. A serial arsonist in Miami sounded like a real problem. Too bad I would be stuck in Detroit for a bit.
