SPENCER'S POV

We had just gotten back to the BAU from another case. Now there was a ton of paper work that needed to be done that none of us wanted to do. I tried to start working on the paper work but my mind kept wandering to my wonderful girlfriend, Y/n, and what I had recently purchased for her with some help from Morgan.

After only fifteen minutes, I decided to go to JJ's office. I could really use her advice.

I wandered over to my friend's office and closed the door. I didn't want Y/n to overhear what I was going to say.

"Hey Spence! What do you need?" asked JJ.

JJ was still the only person to call me Spence. Not even Y/n called me that.

I answered, "Advice. Cause I really want to. You know, it'll be easier if I just show you"

I got out the small box that held what I got for Y/n. I opened it and showed it to JJ.

Inside was an engagement ring that looked like this

JJ exclaimed, "Oh my god, Spence! Y/n is going to love it!"

"I know that but like how should I ask her?" I asked.

JJ joked, "You get down on one knee, hold this in your hand, and then ask will you marry me?"

"You know that's not what I meant. I just want it to be perfect, you know?"

"It's not going to be perfect. Nothing ever is. You know that. Does anyone else know?"

"Just Morgan and since he knows, Garcia probably does too"

"And if Garcia knows, she'd going to let it slip to Y/n so you better do this soon"

That was true. Y/n and Garcia were pretty good friends and Garcia was not the best at keeping secrets.

JJ asked, "Why don't you ask Hotch or Rossi for proposal ideas? They have experience"

I had thought about asking them but JJ seemed like a better option.

I told her, "Because I thought since you're a woman, you'd be able to help me better. You know?"

"You wanted a woman's perspective?" JJ questioned me.

"Yes"

"Then just say that. Don't put the ring in any food or drink. That's a choking hazard and you wouldn't want to risk it"

I started taking mental notes. I was not going to forget this. Although I really couldn't because of my eidetic memory but my point still stands.

JJ told me, "You should take her somewhere romantic like maybe where you had your first date or where you first met. Wait, you met here. Scratch that. Wait until the end of the night to ask. Make sure she has her nails done"

"Her nails?"

"So she can take pictures of the ring on her finger"

That made some sense. JJ gave me some other advice like don't act nervous, she'll say yes and dress nice. The advice JJ gave sounded like some pretty solid advice so I went back to my desk and resumed working on paperwork.

I started planning the proposal in my head. We would go to Miller's Steakhouse, where we had our first date. Then after dinner but before dessert, I'd pop the question. She'll say yes and maybe we'll get a free dessert but that's just wishful thinking.

Will you marry me?

Or

Will you make me the happiest man on earth and be my bride?

Or

Will you make me the happiest man on earth and marry me?

That would be hard to decide. God, why were the so many ways to propose? I wished it was simpler but alas, it wasn't.

A few days and a manicure later, Y/n and I went out to dinner at Miller's Steakhouse. They had a great beer selection but I didn't get any. I wasn't going to risk messing this night up.

"I'll have some chicken fingers with a side of French fries" Y/n ordered.

The waitress turned to me after writing down her order.

I ordered, "I'll have a Caesar's salad"

The waitress wrote down my order and took our menus. I tried not to act nervous. I couldn't tell if I was doing a good job at hiding it.

Y/n asked me, "Have we been here before? Because I feel like we have, I just can't remember"

I responded, "Yeah, we have. We actually went on our first date here, two years five months and twenty three days ago"

"Has it really been that long?"

"Yes. Actually it's been two years four months and fifteen days since you agreed to be my girlfriend"

"You know most guys don't remember anniversaries and stuff like that but you remember everything"

"That's because I have an eidetic memory"

"I know but I still think it's nice that you pay attention to those kinds of things"

We kept talking and our food came. After we finished eating, I knew it was time to ask her. I was a nervous wreck, at least on the inside. I kept wondering what if she says no? What if I mess up?

I told her, "Y/n, I have to ask you something"

"Ask it" she replied.

I got out of my chair smoothly and onto one knee. I had the ring in the open box out in my hand. Now all I had to do was ask.

I started, "Y/n,-"

She cut me off, "Yes! Yes! Yes!"

"I haven't even said anything yet"

"You don't have to"

She got out of her chair. I slid the ring onto her finger and after standing, we kissed. People in the restaurant applauded and cheered. We did end up getting a free dessert which was awesome. It was chocolate cheesecake that had congrats written in chocolate sauce on the plate. Y/n ate most of it but I didn't mind.

JJ's advice was great and at first I couldn't believe it worked. Y/n said yes. We're going to get married. I couldn't wait to spend the rest of my life with her.

The next day when we told the team, everyone was ecstatic. I told JJ that her advice worked wonders. Garcia was relieved that she didn't have to keep it a secret anymore. Morgan was proud of me for finally getting a girl. I already had a girlfriend so I don't know why but he was. Hotch actually smiled for once. That was a rare occasion.

I still couldn't believe what had happened. I was going to get married! To Y/n! The most perfect woman in the world. I don't how I was able to get her date me much less marry me but I'm glad I was.
