Inner Fire

Jade sat on her bed, staring at Amon who was starting a fire in the hearth at the corner of her room. What was his fascination with fire? There was a scraping and noise and then the roar of a fire and an orange glow escaped from the hearth. She heard the crackling of the wood. Then he turned to face her.

"That should warm us up in a bit," white clouds slipped out of his mouth with his words. She frowned with understating.

However she just shivered in response. "That cold huh?"

He took off his jacket and wrapped her in it, rubbing her shoulders. It was definitely warmer, but she didn't like Amon touching her and shied away.

"I'm not going to hurt you, Jade, " he said as if he were offended.

"You can leave now," she said simply. She knew what he was doing. He thought that she didn't know who she was and that he could get on her good side, while it lasted, but he was too quick to forget how he had shoved her just that morning.

"I'm sorry for pushing you to the floor earlier," he said as if he could read her mind, "I think we got off on the wrong foot."

"I don't." She spoke sourly.

"I'm not like my brother," he said innocently, "I know your scared. Just trust me."

She hated him, but if she didn't remember who she was then she would trust him so she said, "All right."

He grinned and then walked towards the open door. "Where are you going?"

"To see if Dane is here yet," he said with a laugh, "he's going to have a heart attack, when he discovers that his little children were both on the brink of death."

"Children . . ." Jade mused. She knew exactly what he was implying, but . . .

"Yes, Dane my brother, Drake's uncle he fawns over you as if you were his daughter and well he tries to treat Damien in the same way. Any ways I have to go greet him he'll be at the door any minute."

"I'm coming with you," she said.

"Come on then," he said holding out a hand.

She bit her lip and then cautiously took it.
