Aren't You Angry

Jade sighed, laying on the uncomfortable cot and staring up at the clean white ceiling. It was icy cold and there wasn't a single blanket and yet she felt a hundred more times comfortable there than at Damien's and would have gladly lived her life there if it meant never seeing Damien again.

She sighed, feeling inside her pocket, there was a ring inside. She could feel it with her hand, but didn't dare to take it out. Amon must have put it in there. She sighed. Why were they all so mysterious?

Suddenly the thief who had dragged her into all of this mess was in the cell next to her whistling away at a tune she had never heard before. It must have been about three in the morning, but she wasn't tired.

The whistling stopped abruptly, "Hey," he whispered to her through the bars separating them from one another. "Wanna escape with me tomorrow?"

She flipped over so that she was facing him, "How?"

He smiled at her and opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by the opening a door and the sound of boots knocking against the stone floors. Suddenly Jade heard the doors to her cell rattling open. She sat up surprised and then her heart sunk as her eyes fell onto Damien who was smiling at her through the eerie light in a way that said caught you. He was leaning on one leg with crossed arms with two guards, one on either side of him. He merely raised his eyebrows at her and she felt her body being drawn towards him, her feet moving on their own accord. Once she was close enough to him, he lunged out and grabbed her arm, jerking her away with him, not even giving her a chance to look back at the thief.

He was silent as he lead her out of the prison and silenter still once they were out on the empty streets. Wasn't he angry?

She found the courage to ask, "Aren't you furious?"

He glanced down at her and spoke coldly, "Of course."

"Then why aren't you-" She began, but he quickly interrupted her with a tart reply.

"Chastising you?" He questioned her, laughing shortly at himself. "What good would it do?"

She raised an eyebrow. His demeanor seemed eerily calm and she was afraid that speaking might crack it, but she was even more worried that silence would blow it up. "How did you find me?"

He stop walking and rolling his eyes let go of her arm and turned to face her. "Will you ever do this again?"

"Of course," she spoke mockingly, "I'll keep doing it until I succeed."

He rolled his eyes again, "Great," and kept on walking, leaving her behind as if expecting her to follow him without being forced.

She turned around to glance behind her into the desolate black night and took one step into it before, "No you don't, come on."

They had been walking for about an hour with only the sound of crickets and owls to keep them company. The city was so much different at night than it was during the daytime. Instead of a bustling port city, it was a quiet, empty shell of a city. It was peaceful and the night sky was clear letting the stars shine out.

Jade was slowly noticing that Drake's thoughts were re-entering her mind. He sounded as if he were in pain, but they were too quiet for her to tell for sure.

"What are you thinking about?" Damien asked, giving her a sideways glance. The cool night air seemed to have calmed his fiery rage.

"I'm starting to hear Drake again," she muttered. His thoughts were all jumbled. It was as if he were dreaming.

Damien bit his lip, his boots clicking on the stone street, "And what exactly do you hear?"

"I think that he's dre-" She paused as an excruciating pain pierced through her left arm and a loud crack emitted from deep in its flesh. She fell to the ground sobbing and screaming in pain.

Damien merely stood above her frowning as she screamed and cried, writhing in agony, but after sometime when a few lights began to turn on in the surrounding windows he muttered, "Stop screaming, my dear."

He bent down beside her, "You should know that whatever harm comes to Drake's body it comes to yours as well and vice versa. I didn't think about it. I would have warned you."

Then he scooped her up into his arms and began to walk the rest of the way home. Her mind was swelling with the pain and all of her thoughts were swirling together, mixing with Drake's as reality became fiction. Then it all turned black.
