A Pendant

As usual Erik had already grabbed Jade's food and was sitting at their normal table waiting with a few of their friends. She sat down in the empty metal chair beside him with a sigh as Drake sat in the one next to her, glancing at Erik as if he were just waiting for the inevitable explosion of anger.

"Why are you here?" He glared at Drake in a disgusted sort of way.

"Because it's a free world, Erik," Drake rolled his eyes with a heavy sigh and then leaned back casually.

Erik laughed irritatedly and then snapped, "Go before I make you."

Drake tilted his head to the left as if he were curious about what Erik was saying, "Make me, my, my?"

Narrowing his eyes at Drake, Erik smiled, "Where's your dear father when you need him?"

"Hopefully laying somewhere dead in a ditch," Drake hissed under his breath. Jade frowned those were cruelly hateful words towards a father. She was shocked and a bit disturbed. "That's a lovely necklace dear," he said suddenly reaching over to Jade's neck and touching the orange jeweled pendant carefully with two fingers.

"Thanks," she said uneasily, sucking hard on her lips uncomfortably.

"Love," Drake spoke to her gently, "I want you to come with me after lunch all right? I need to show you something."

"No," she laughed, pushing his hand away from her. Who did he think he was? She could feel Erik's approving smile, however.

"No?" he almost spat at her. It appeared as if it took everything in him to not scream. Had no one ever said that word to him?

"You should leave before you loose your temper," Erik sighed gently through his smile.

"For once, Erik," Drake spoke icily, "this has absolutely nothing to do with you. So shut up."

He smiled deeply at Jade again entrancing her almost putting her into a daze and slowly removed her necklace, quickly slipping it into his pocket. He then stood and snapped his fingers in front of her face, waking her from the stupor, but he was gone before she could even protest.

Erik watched but said nothing for a moment, when his eyes finally met Jade's he spoke, "He wants you to follow him."

"Well, I will not," Jade scowled, "I'm not going to play his childish games."

Sighing, she looked back to the door at the end of the cafeteria, but she quickly turned back, shaking her head.

"I'll get it back from him," Erik smiled to her gently.

She smiled back, but when she looked up at him she noticed Drake sitting casually in the window not to far off, returning her smile to Erik, waving her necklace back and forth like the pendulum of a clock. Her face shriveled into a scowl as if she were sucking on a lemon. Erik followed her eyes and frowned himself as he saw Drake laughing at the two of them.
