An Absolute Mess

"What?" She sniffled, knowing it wasn't Drake.

"It's me Petra, Jade. Please let me in," she said earnestly.

Jade sighed, and standing up opened the door, shocked to find Petra, completely distressed, with tear stains running down her cheeks. "What's the matter with you? Damien?"

Petra shook her head and placed her icy cold hands on Jade's shoulders, "No, Jade, um. There's been a, um a terrible accident you see. Erik, well he's been killed Jade."

Jade stared at her blankly for at least five minutes until Petra, nearly screaming, said, "What? Say something!"

She stumbled out of the bathroom, pushing Petra aside and then made her way back to the ballroom as quickly as she could to find that the massive golden chandelier that had been hanging above the dance floor had crashed to the ground, smashing a few people under it.

"Jade," Drake spoke from behind her. "I'm so sorry."

She pressed her lips together and didn't turn to face him. She was in so much grief that she could barely stand, but she managed to so that she seemed strong in front of Drake, she would not crumble to him or so she thought until she saw Damien, pulling out Erik's broken body as Dane held up a piece of the chandelier. She gasped, involuntarily and nearly choked as her stomach tied itself into a knot. She found herself running over to them trying to reach Erik, but Damien saw her and stood up quickly. Walking over to her,  he held her back, "You don't want to see this, Jade. Believe me for once."

"Please," she begged him, beginning to cry. Why wouldn't Damien let her through? She was about to make him until with a gasp she realized, "There will be consequences."

"You did this!" She gasped, stumbling backwards as she began to shout and scream, throwing her small fists into him, doing little to nothing as she sobbed. "How could you? He was all I had left! You've taken absolutely everything! I have nothing left."

Her legs seemed to simply give way as she crumbled to the floor, hitting the marble hard enough for it to hurt. She didn't even realize it through her despair.

"Jade, Jade," he hushed her, sitting with her on the floor, covered with broken shards of glass and crystals. Reaching over to her, he wiped the hot tears from her face. Eventually he wrapped his arms around her middle and brought her in closer to him, sitting her in his lap. "Look at me my dear."

And so she did, trying to see through the water in her eyes, "How could you?" She whispered again, blinking more tears onto her face, sending a steady stream of black makeup down her cheeks and onto her dress as she began to sob even harder.

"I didn't, my love," his mouth twitched as Dane sat down with them. He tried to wipe away the makeup with the ends of his sleeves.

"Jade, he's telling the truth," Dane said softly, eyeing his brother suspiciously, "Drake, he cut the cord. I . . . I saw him do it myself."

She stopped crying and wiped more of the salty drops of tears from her cheeks as she stood with Damien's help, "I-I have to get out of this room. P-please don't follow me."

Damien frowned at her and grabbed her hands tightly in his, "My darling don't. You're in no state of mind to be roaming around on your own."

"I can't stay!" She sobbed harder into his chest. He wrapped his arms around her tightly once more as they sat back on the ground. "It hurts too much!"

"Jade," he said softly, glancing up at his brother for support, but he had taken his leave to help some one else. "It's going to be all right."

"No, it won't," she said pulling away from him to stare through her tears into his eyes, "please don't keep me here any more, please let me go!"

"Jade," Damien mumbled, using his thumb to wipe the tears away once more. "I can't stand to see you in this pain, I-"

Their eyes met, but for the first time his eyes didn't paralyze her and in the wave of her emotions and loneliness and complete despair. She leaned forwards and kissed him. His hands found their way around her waist. It was odd how everything immediately vanished from her mind except for his touch for what seemed like an infinity. She could feel hot tears running down his face as he sat there motionless, allowing her to caress his lips softly between hers. For a second time she was drunk with his flavor that spicy cinnamon sweetness.

"Please stop," he muttered as she kissed him. She pulled back to look at him in shock, but the moment she wasn't intoxicated reality crashed down on top of her and she couldn't breathe.

She felt like she was in some strange nightmare. Nothing was making any sense and she was seeing in tunnel vision and there was no certainty that what had happened had in fact occurred.

"I-I have to leave," she muttered to herself, forgetting that he was even there, paralyzed as if someone had poisoned him.

Stumbling forwards, she stared at the golden glossy floor and noticed Drake's reflection looking at her not too far off. She couldn't talk to him, not right then. She needed to figure things out. Damien was a pathological liar and she couldn't trust a word he said, but if Dane was in agreement with him did that make it true? She put a hand to her head. It was too much. She had reached her breaking point. Her face felt so hot. Falling to her knees, she didn't care that she hadn't even made it all the way out of the room. Nothing really mattered anymore. Erik was the one thing that kept her moving and breathing in all of the chaos, but now he was gone. She was surrounded by nothing but darkness.

She opened her eyes expecting Drake to be kneeling on the ground beside her, but realized that she was literally surrounded by darkness. She was so drained of energy that she didn't really want to care or think about why she was in a dark room, but without even thinking hard the first thing that came to her mind was that she had time traveled. She had blacked out and imagined everything and then time traveled.

"Who's there?" Asked a voice from the darkness. The heels of his shoes, clicked against the floor.

She shook her head. What was the point to anything? She felt like no one. Who was she anymore? How to even answer such a question? Then a bright light blinded her eyes.

"Jade?" The younger Damien sounded shocked. His voice echoed throughout the new building. "You're a mess. God, what happened to you."

He scooped her up into his arms and began to carry her away. She had fallen asleep before they were even halfway up the stair case.
