Shuichi Saihara, Where Are Ya? (11)

Kokichi knocked on the door to the lighthouse. Daphne opened it and allowed them inside. The smell of pancakes, bacon, eggs, sausage, and blueberry muffins wafted through the air.

"Ooo, breakfast! Can we eat?" Kokichi asked as he and Himiko joined the others in the dining room.

"Only if you stay on your best behavior," Velma replied. "That's what Bessie said if you two decided to come back inside, anyways." Himiko's stomach grumbled. She looked at Kokichi, her eyes imploring him not to cause anymore trouble. Kokichi smiled and shrugged in defeat.

"Okie-tay, I'll behave," he finally said. "Only for my supreme lady."

"Your supreme lady?" Shaggy asked. "Like, who's that?"

"Himiko, of course," Kokichi said, grabbing a plate and filling it up. He handed that plate to Himiko and grabbed another plate to fill up his own. He poured two glasses of orange juice for him and Himiko.

"Aww, that's actually really cute!" Daphne gushed.

"Thanks!" Kokichi said, as he sat down next to Himiko. "Has anyone ever told you how beautiful you look in the morning, Daphne?" Kokichi reached across the table to kiss the back of Daphne's hand.

"Jeepers!" Daphne exclaimed, turning pink. Fred's cheeks, however, turned red and he smacked Kokichi's hand away.

"Cut that out!" he demanded. Kokichi tilted his head and gave Fred a seemingly innocent smile.

"What's wrong, Fred? I was only complimenting Daphne," he said, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Why do you care so much?"

"I-I don't! It's just that...you already have a girlfriend!" Fred said, gesturing over to Himiko, who was too busy munching on her breakfast to pay attention to what had just happened. When she felt everyone's eyes on her, she stopped eating and looked up.

   "Nyeh...what's wrong?" she asked.

"You didn't see?!" Fred asked incredulously. "Kokichi was just flirting with Daphne!" Himiko turned to Kokichi and gave him a small smack on the arm.

"Stop it," she scolded him. "I want to eat!" She shot him a pointed look, knowing full well that he was only "flirting" with Daphne to make Fred mad, which would only cause Kokichi and Himiko to be kicked out again and miss breakfast.

"Okay...I'm sowwy," Kokichi murmured apologetically, leaning his forehead against Himiko's. "By the way, where is Bessie and Barty? And Ivana?"

"They're upstairs," Shaggy answered, shoving a muffin into his mouth. "Ivana's probably trying to convince Barty and Bessie to sell the lighthouse."

"You know, something bugs me about Ivana," Velma said thoughtfully. "Why is she so intent on selling this lighthouse?" Himiko looked to Kokichi, silently asking if they should tell Mystery Inc. their weird encounter with the realtor, and the discovery of the manhole. Kokichi shook his head, to Himiko's surprise, but she decided to stay quiet and finish her breakfast.

"I admit that she's weird, too, but don't forget the real reason why we're here," Fred said. "We have to talk about the 70 million dollars worth of gold bars stolen from the bank, remember?" Kokichi suddenly stopped chewing and became lost in deep thought. At that moment, they heard Barty, Bessie, and Ivana heading downstairs. They entered the kitchen.

"For the last time, Ivana, we're not selling this lighthouse, and that's that!" Barty growled.

"Just you wait, Barty," Ivana said with a smirk. "I'll find a client who's willing to pay billions!"

"Not a chance," Barty harrumphed, crossing his arms. Suddenly, a loud pounding sound came from the front door.

"I'll get it," Bessie said. She opened the door to reveal Finnigan O'Malley.

"Ye dang, blasted barnacle brains!" he growled. "Which one o' ye drilled a hole in me boat?!" Everyone stood up from the table to see what all the fuss was about.

"What do you mean, Mr. O'Malley?" Daphne asked.

"Don't be playin' dumb with me!" O'Malley growled. "I come over to me boat to see a large hole in the deck of me ship! I know one o' ye did it!"

"Could you show us, please, Mr. O'Malley?" Velma asked politely. O'Malley growled in annoyance as he led the others outside the lighthouse down to the beach and to his boat near the docks. His boat, the Two Gold Doubloons, was sunk halfway. Because it was near shallow water, it hadn't sunk completely.

"Like, wow! I had a sinking feeling something like this was going to happen! Hahaha!" Shaggy joked.

   "Ree-heeheeheeheehee...ri get it!" Scooby laughed.

"THIS AIN'T NO TIME FER JOKES, YE SCALLYWAGS!!!" O'Malley roared at Scooby and Shaggy.

"Zoinks! Aye-aye, c-c-captain!" Shaggy stammered, trembling with fear.

"Now I have legitimate reason to close down this beach!" O'Malley said. "No more tourists to mess up me boats, and I'll be free to fish in peace!"

"But how do you know it was a tourist?" Fred asked. "It could have been anyone."

"I just know it was a tourist!" O'Malley said.

"Now, now...that doesn't sound very reasonable," Ivana said. O'Malley looked at her with a suspicious look in his eye.

"Perhaps it was you who did it, lass," he muttered in a low voice.

"It wasn't me! I don't know how to sink a ship!" Ivana said. Kokichi stared at her intently before turning to Himiko. Wordlessly, he placed a finger on his lips, indicating to her to stay silent. Then, he held her hand and quietly led her away from the others as they bickered amongst each other. When they were far enough away, Kokichi broke out in a sprint towards the lighthouse.

"Kokichi, where are we going?" Himiko asked quietly. Kokichi didn't answer. He merely picked up speed towards the patchy grass that was hiding the manhole. Himiko looked at him in confusion.

"Nyeh...I thought you said we shouldn't be investigating the manhole in broad daylight," she said.

"Change of plans, Monkey Buns! The perfect time is now," Kokichi said, leaning down to lift up the lid. "While everyone else is distracted, we have to find out where this place goes to. Help me lift this." Himiko knelt next to him and helped him lift the lid. Grunting with effort, they were finally able to remove the lid. They looked down into the dark hole, feeling a sense of dread creeping up their spines. With the help of the sunlight, they could see a series of rungs attached to the walls inside.

"Do we have to go down there?" Himiko asked in fear.

"If we wanna find answers, and Shuichi, yeah," Kokichi said. He held Himiko's hand. "It's now or never, babe. I'll go down first." Kokichi climbed down the rungs. "It's okay, Himiko," he called back up. "Start climbing down." Himiko wiped the sweat from her hands and took a deep breath before lowering herself into the dark tunnel.
