Fairy Godgirlfriend (Fairytale AU) (19)

Kokichi spent the next few hours searching for Himiko. She wasn't anywhere else in the school, or back home at Casa V3. He searched nearby shops and restaurants, but she wasn't anywhere to be found. He grew more and more worried as the night wore on. He searched around town, desperately asking people if they've seen a short girl with red hair. Finally, he stopped at a lonely bullet train station underneath a clock tower with nobody around except the passengers boarding the bullet train in front of him. He plopped himself onto one of the platform benches and buried his face into his hands in dismay.

"Himiko...where are you?" he whispered despondently. He looked up at the clock on the tower, which read 11:50. He let out a dejected sigh. It was getting late, and he couldn't find her. He decided that it was best to continue his search for her in the morning. With his head hung low, he stood up and began walking away, until he heard faint crying. He perked up and looked around. The bullet train in front of him began to speed away. When it finally passed, Kokichi was able to see the platform across the one he was standing on. There, on the other side, was Himiko, sitting on a bench and weeping her little heart out. She was in her true fairy form, with her wings and crown showing.

"Himiko!" Kokichi exclaimed excitedly. Himiko looked up at him, but she merely stared at him with a heartbroken expression. Making sure no more bullet trains were coming, Kokichi dashed out onto the train tracks and to the platform on the other side. "Himiko!" he called out one more time before throwing his arms around her. Himiko pushed him away.

"Go away!" she cried. Kokichi looked at her in bewilderment.

   "Himiko, what happened?" he asked.

"You know what happened!" Himiko sobbed. "You tricked me! Oil Tank was right! You were lying to me the whole time!" Kokichi closed his eyes, trying not to laugh.

"Tenko," he corrected. "Her name is Tenko, Himiko."

"Tincan, Toucan, Tinky-Winky, who cares?!" Himiko whimpered as she dabbed her eyes with a hanky. Kokichi sat next to her.

"Himiko, when did Tenko say that to you?" he asked softly.

"Yesterday, when you were in that room doing...whatever it is you do in there," Himiko answered. "She said that you were pretending to be my friend, and that you would try to hurt me. She even said that to me on the first day I met her."

"Did she also say that she wanted you to go with her to the dance?" Kokichi asked. Himiko looked up at him in surprise.

   "Yes. Sniff...how did you know?"

"Because I know Tenko," Kokichi muttered. "She might have had something to do with what happened to you back at the dance."

"You mean...you didn't leave me a cup of juice with a note?" Himiko asked.

"No, Himiko, I didn't do that," Kokichi replied, looking Himiko in the eye. "Tenko probably did that. And I think she somehow found out about you being a fairy godgirlfriend. It sounded like she was going to expose you in front of everyone, probably to keep you away from me."

"Nyeeeh! She is such a...a...troublemaker!" Himiko huffed in anger and frustration as she stomped her foot. She turned to Kokichi with a guilty expression. "I'm sorry for doubting you, Kokichi. You're my boyfriend. I should have believed you." Kokichi reached across the bench and gently placed his hand on Himiko's. He stood up and pulled Himiko up with him.

"You don't have to be sorry, Himiko," he said. "I'm the one that should be sorry." Himiko brought her hand to chest in surprise.

"Oh! Kokichi, none of this was your faul-" she began.

"No, shut up. I wanna say this," Kokichi interrupted softly. He knelt down on both knees and looked up at Himiko, his eyes glistening with tears. "Himiko...when I first met you, I was a rude, horrible jerk. I didn't treat you with the respect that you deserve. And the whole time, you've stood right by me. You never complained or took your anger out on me. You still wanted to stay by my side, even though you deserve so much better than me. I now realize that I don't deserve you at all. But...I don't want you to leave me. You came to my rescue, Himiko, when I needed it most. Because of you, I have a friend. Maybe even...more than a friend. And...I want to thank you for that."

"Kokichi..." Himiko breathed as tears poured from her eyes. Kokichi slowly stood up and wrapped his arms tightly around Himiko as tears streamed down his face.

"I love you, Himiko," he murmured softly. "I love you so much." Himiko wrapped her arms around him, as well, closing her eyes as she sighed blissfully.

"I love you, too, Kokichi," she whispered. They held each other for what seemed like forever, but they loved every second of it. Himiko finally pulled away before giving him a sad smile. "But...it's too late." Kokichi's smile faded.

"Too late?" he breathed apprehensively as he wiped his eyes. "What do you mean?" Himiko looked up at the tower clock, which now read 11:57.

"My time with you is almost up," Himiko answered, trying to stifle a sob. "When that clock strikes 12:00, you'll never see me again."

"W-What do you mean?" Kokichi asked in horror.

"If a boyfriend with a fairy godgirlfriend doesn't make the most important wish within three days, the fairy godgirlfriend has to leave...forever," Himiko replied. "I'm so sorry, Kokichi."

"No," Kokichi exhaled in despair. He clutched his head with his hands. "No! No! NO! Why didn't you tell me?!"

"As fairy godgirlfriends, we're not supposed to mention it," Himiko explained. "It's to prevent our boyfriends from feeling pressure. Not only does he have to say the most important wish, he has to feel it, as well! If he feels pressured to make the wish, but he doesn't feel it, then the wish can't be granted." Kokichi thought hard to himself. He thought back to all the times he and Himiko spent together. The past few days, he grew more and more attached to Himiko, even though he told himself not to at first. But as the days went by, he couldn't deny his feelings for Himiko. He felt like he had a true friend. More than a friend, actually. For the first time in his life, he felt like he finally had...

"Himiko..." Kokichi suddenly said, holding her hands in his. He gazed intensely into her eyes. Himiko exhaled and stared at him with hope. "...I wish you were my real girlfriend."

RING! RING! RING! RING! RING! RING! RING! RING! RING! RING! RING! RING!

The clock on the tower struck midnight. Kokichi and Himiko held their breath, waiting for something...anything...to happen. Suddenly, magical sparkles swirled around Himiko. She hovered slightly above the ground and twirled around as the sparkles concealed her completely in a blinding flash. Finally, the sparkles disappeared, and Himiko landed gracefully back onto the ground. Kokichi gasped.

"Himiko...your wings and your crown...they're gone!" he breathed. Himiko looked behind her. Her wings had, indeed, vanished. She felt for her crown, but, as Kokichi said, it was no longer there. They looked up at the clock, which now read 12:01.

"But I'm still here!" Himiko breathed with a large grin, looking at Kokichi. Kokichi broke out into a happy smile.

"You're still here!" he repeated with elation. They wrapped their arms around each other in a tight embrace. Kokichi picked her up and twirled her around. When he put her back down, they gazed fervently into each other's eyes. Kokichi rested his forehead on hers and gently caressed Himiko's face in his hands before delighting her with a passionate and tender kiss.
