Back the Fox Residence....

Bai Zhi & Bai Rui were shocked upon hearing Weng Chan confession. "What nonsense are you spouting out now Lord Weng Chan!!!!!" Bai Rui shouted.

Bai Zhi was about to lose his temper again. He has heard enough. "Bai Yi son, tell me that what we heard is just some hooey that this crazy lad is saying."

Bai Yi remained silent staring at Weng Chan. He patted his shoulder. "Thank you."

"Are you serious?" Bai Zhi bellowed

"Father, mother; please hear me out. What I'm about to tell you it has to remain a secret."

"Speak quick, we are eager to know the truth" Bai Zhi annoyingly said.

"Long time ago on my younger days, when Qing Qui's army was fighting under the Shaoyan banner. At what time Dong Hua Dijun was the heavenly emperor trying to unify all the realms to achieve peace during Chaotic War Era, when you were one of Dijun's generals at that time. We were recruiting soldiers from all regions and I was assigned to go to Shīzi to recruit strong and capable men willing to fight for the cause. Do you remember this father?" Bai Yi asked.

"Of course, I do. The warriors from the White Lion tribe were some of the most ferocious and valiant men that we had the privilege to fight alongside with. They were fearless in battle." Bai Zhi replied.

"Yes, they were. Unfortunately, when the men returned from the war, they were ambushed by the enemy's war survivors and decimated most of them, including the men from Shīzi noble family. It was a great loss of brave warriors. Is still fresh in my mind the widespread trauma caused by these atrocities and conflicts, creating extensive stress and indirect negative consequences on infrastructure, supplies provision, and social order. Displacement or forced migration during that time of war adversely affected many realm communities. Many people fled their homes in fear of losing their lives and their families, and as a result, many refugees and asylum seekers from all realms came to Nine Heavens to be assigned a new residency. Those were really chaotic times."

"Undeniably, they were." Bai Zhi said.

"It was during my time assisting with the after-war effects that I met Lady Xibu Zu from the White Lion tribe. I fell in love with her at first sight father. Xibu Zu was the most beautiful woman that I had the privilege to be with. She was kind, courageous, bold, humble, and brave. She was always serving others. She dedicated most of her youth taking care of the needy. That was the trait that I admired most from her. I stayed here to assist her with her duties, it was then that we developed a deep relationship. When I was summoned to return to Qing Qui I promised her to come back. But you already made marriage arrangements for me to wed another out of duty. After some time, I went back to to look for her, but she hid from me heartbroken. I looked for her for a long time and never was able to find her. I'll never forgive myself for not being able to explain to her what really happened. She died in despair. All this time and I wasn't aware that she already had Weng Chan. It was until recently that I discovered that he is my biological son." Bai Yi said.

"Bai Yi, you were always causing trouble with your promiscuity and needed to settle down before your enthronement. If I would have known that you had chosen your mate, I wouldn't forced you to marry another regardless of the troubles we faced. Why you didn't say nothing about his matter back then?" Bai Zhi asked.

"You say that now father, but before you were unyielding with this wedding in order to recover our family financial loses and your focus point was to repair our reputation after the mess that my father-in-law made. I put aside my own happiness to be with Xibu in order fulfill my role as the next one to the throne as a true king would have done. When I returned to Qing Qui, Xibu was pregnant with Weng Chan but she hid her pregnancy from me thinking that I dishonored her. He grew up not knowing me. Do you know how hard that was for us? I went to her grave to finally have some type of closure. I had never felt pained like that before." Bai Yi sadly remembered.

"Then...your wife..." Bai Rui said

"She knows the truth mother. She already met my son." Bai Yi replied.

"How about Xiao Jiu, does she know?" Bai Rui asked.

"No, she doesn't." Bai Yi replied.

Weng Chan was quietly analyzing their interaction with the news. Bai Zhi's face fell down upon knowing what transpired, he felt his son's hopelessness. Bai Rui felt helpless. "This complicate things... this means then that Xiao Jiu shouldn't be..." She whispered.

Bai Yi interrupted Bai Rui thoughts. "Mother, I wanted you and father to know the truth about Weng Chan because he is my son and I want him to know his roots. Is the least I can do to repair the damage I did to him and Xibu. Shīzi should be considered our extended domain. Weng Chan is the sole heir to Shīzi and he should have a place in Qing Qui, we owe this to him. But at the same time, we want to keep this a secret from the rest of the Bai clan and the council members. If the truth gets out, Qing Qui reputation will be tarnished forever." Bai Yi pleaded.

"You don't know what are asking Bai Yi. We can't cover up this from the council members and pretend that this relationship doesn't exist. We have to render accountability to our elders for important decisions as such. You know this better than everyone. Not to mention that Xiao Jiu already has the Fox Imperial Seal; I can't revoke an imperial decision to place Weng Chan as your successor in her place. It will be seen as an internal division that may end on a civil war. We have striven for the unification of our five kingdoms for so long. We can't just act raucously about this."

"If I may say something your highnesses." Weng Chan spoke.

"Speak." Bai Zhi gave him the chance to do so.

"Bai Zhi Dijun, although is true that I am related to the Bai Clan to a certain extent and to be allied with Qing Qui is a great honor; but I don't wish to be a burden to Qing Qui. For so long Shīzi has strive to be a small peaceful kingdom, other than the protection that Qing Qui already is supplying we are prospering triumphally. I don't have any requests other than continue with what you so kindly have been providing. Let's leave things as they are to avoid any future insurgences within your kingdom." Weng Chan serenely said.

"Even though that would be the best decision to follow, we just can't ignore the fact that you are the rightful heir to Qing Qui's throne by blood. Your family suffered because of my unknowingly wrongful doing. At the same time, I just can't abandon our rightful responsibilities as the head of our clan. I will be acting against what we believe in if I decide to turn a blind eye. It will not be justifiable or honorable from our part. Plus, you don't deserve it. We need to repair the damage that we triggered Shīzi without causing turmoil to Qing Qui. Let me discuss this further and see what will be the best solution. In the meantime, please stay with us for some time. That is the least I can offer you for now." Bai Zhi said.

"As you wish Bai Zhi Dijun." Weng Chan kowtowed to Bai Zhi.

"Thank you, father." Bai Yi said.

Bai Zhi and Bai Rui retired to their chambers after the day's events. They felt against the wall with the latest dealings.

Meanwhile at the Ten Miles Peach Blossom Orchard....

Bai Zhen came to find Zhe Yan and saw him nourishing an owl. He became curious. "Where this one came from?" Bai Zhen asked Zhe Yan.

"I don't know. He showed up at the big tree. From time to time he settles there. I've studied his migration patterns. When lemmings are in short supply, he feeds on a wide variety of other small mammals. It readily preys on muskrats, raccoons, ground squirrels, prairie dogs, mice, rabbits, marmots, rats, voles, hares, rabbits and moles. You know as much as I that I despite these little freeloaders munching on my peach orchard. So, there is no harm in keeping him nearby. I already welcomed him as my tenant at my big tree. But what are you up to now Bai Zhen, surely you didn't come to me to learn about our illustrious friend here?"

Bai Zhen smiled at Zhe Yan. "It is rare to see you interact with other bird spices. But no, you are right. I happened to have free time from training and decided to take a stroll."

"Well, that is a huge stroll if you ask me." Zhe Yan said while fondling the owl feathers.

"I was around the neighborhood and wanted to check on you, to see how are things around here."

"Ahhhh, the truth comes forth. Since when you were around?" Zhe Yan asked him.

"Since two days ago. I visited Xiao Jiu to let her know the progress of our troops training."

"Where were you two days ago, and now you come and visit me? I feel kind of offended Bai Zhen. Did Mo Yan come with you?"

Bai Zhen laughed at Zhe Yan expression. "No, he stayed behind."

"How's our Xiao Jiu?"

"She is with Dijun, so they are busy with each other, that is why I left." Bai Zhen smirked.

"The lovebirds are building a nest." Zhe Yan absently said.

"Huh?" Bai Zhen furrowed his brows.

"Never mind. I have a fresh brew of my latest wine. Want a taste?"

"Sure." Bai Zhen happily obliged.

The owl was observing them penetratingly. Zhe Yan felt his intense stare on the back of his head. He telepathically ordered the owl to leave for his tree. The owl hooted at Zhe Yan and flew away in agreement to his command.

"Impressive." Bai Zhen said.

"I'm not the king of birds for nothing Bai Zhen, come let's drink."

"To your illustrious new tenant!" Bai Zhen exclaimed.

"Hmm how come Bai Zhen is interested in this owl? He has never been involved in my bird activities before. Jiànkāng"

"Hmmm, is really good this batch Zhe Yan. I'm planning to get wasted."

"Oh, is something the matter for you to drink to oblivion?"

"No special reason. Just enjoying the wine and the company." Bai Zhen stared the big tree.

"Just checking."

Dong Hua and Feng Jiu were lounging outside the garden. They were having a private picnic. Dong Hua was laying on Feng Jiu's lap reading one of his sutra while Feng Jiu was catching up with her reports readings. He sensed that she was worried out about something. He had learned to read her facial expressions, her body language, her breaths, and heartbeats. All of them indicated her altered emotional status. They have been cooped up in their room making up for their time being away from each other that a bit of fresh air was good thing to balance their drive. However, something was bothering her, and he was determined to find out what it was. So, he decided to apply his strategies to his digging. He steadied his breath, curved his lips with a sly smile and decided to go for it.

'Don't you have enough of reading those dreadful reports?" Dong Hua sweetly asked her.

"Back at you husband." Feng Jiu absently said not paying attention to him.

Dong Hua noticed that her grit was not moved. "Hmm you are getting more and more feisty."

"Me? Feisty? I haven't noticed." Feng Jiu sarcastically said.

"My Dihou is surely moody today. Maybe I need to do something to ease her mood." Dong Hua started to slowly raised his hands up her dress to softly caress her legs.

Feng Jiu felt his cool touch going up "Dijun!!!" Feng Jiu hit his hand with the scroll.

"Dijun?" He got up and stared her intensively, sending waves of his scent to calm her down.

"I mean husband." Feng Jiu's cheeks flushed looking at his ethereal face. His sandalwood scent was getting stronger, it aided to calm down her mood swings. Dong Hua adored the fact that his close proximity still affected her disposition. He smiled at her "My sweet little fox, do you know how lovely you look today?" His alluring breath was breaking her resolve. He holds her chin up and caressed her flushed cheeks. Feng Jiu smiled upon hearing his complement. She gathered her wits to break off his enhancement. "Not fair Dong Hua." Feng Jiu pouted at him.

Dong Hua grabbed her hand and softly kissed her knuckles. Massaging them with his lips "How about we enjoy our picnic instead of wasting our time reading." His kisses sent shivers to her core.

"And what does my husband have in mind?" Feng Jiu traitors' body was responding to his soft ministrations.

"Hmmm I have a plan, but it will require your all of your concentration." Dong Hua met her gaze.

She felt his teasing side waking up. "What is your plan husband?"

"Let's go and relax at one of the hot springs nearby. Your back should be sore by now for all the reading that you are doing. We can spend the evening there and see the sunset. We haven't seen the sunset together lately." Dong Hua gently suggested.

Feng Jiu liked the idea. "I love your plan. I'm a bit sore but not from reading." Her face was crimson red by now. Dong Hua grinned at her comment. He knew her soreness was his doing. "Very well Jiu'er, let's go. The hot waters will help you relieve your sore muscles. Plus, we'll relax and meditate a bit."

"So considerate of you husband." Feng Jiu batted her eyes to him.

"I aim to please my beautiful Dihou. Come let's go."

They arrived at the furthest hot springs near the mountains. Dong Hua made sure that the area was isolated before they stripped to soak inside the waters. He felt at ease in his element. Feng Jiu felt sleepy out of the sudden. She felt asleep on Dong Hua's arms completely relaxed. It was part of his strategic plan to find out what was worrying his little fox. He patiently waited for her to fell into deep slumber before entering her subconscious mind. Once inside, he was able to see a clear view of what was bringing her down. He saw her alone in a dark room crying after having a nightmare. She needed him but felt left out. Feng Jiu was desperately seeking him.

Another scene came in front of him. Dong Hua saw how himself was rejecting her again treating her cold. He saw his own expressionless face and icy tone he used towards her. He saw himself turned his back to her and left her alone in the dark. Tears were running from her eyes as she hysterically was saying: "You promised me Dijun, you promised me."

Dong Hua felt remorse taking over his emotions when he saw how he behaved with his little fox in the past. Obviously, this was still playing a major impact in her subconscious that was fueling her unbalanced emotional side. He had to choose a way to navigate the overall unruliness to sustain his sanity and open his heart and clear vision in the face of these ongoing challenges in their relationship. He will do everything he can to help heal their past interactions that were affecting his beloved Jiu'er. He suddenly remembered a conversation he had with Zhe Yan back at Bihai Cangling when he was searching for her:

"Phoenixes have the capability to shift from good to evil when we met the right conditions or are pushed to choose otherwise. Her core is strong but is also pure just like her heart is. Xiao Jiu virtues always been a kindhearted, full of goodness, innocence and naivety. But she is also stubborn and tenacious. Her mischievous character can turn destructive since her natural element is fire. And as you know fire can serve as a purify agent or an instrument of devastation. Her powers will intensity her nature and personality. The element of fire has great power for forging will and determination. It is our inner light as well as a living symbol of the divine fire that burns in every soul. Like other elementals, this means that fire has a form in the earth plane and in spiritual realms. We need to be careful how to approach her after she ascends. We don't want to push her to a dark path."

A dark path...Dong Hua understood. Maybe her past memories were triggering her to choose a different direction in the future. He needed to find out what happened on her mortal trial in order to prevent a shift in her present life. He already read the scroll, but felt obligated to see what type of trials his sweet little fox had to endure to return to him. He knew that he needed to be ready to see painful scenarios. Dong Hua sensed some loose ends that were not completely eliminated from her subconscious mind. Pain is difficult to endure for some, especially those who are still young as her. He knew his Jiu'er is strong but something was off with her behavior and he needed to find the root of it. Dong Hua placed his hand on her forehead and called forth her trial scenes.

(Author's note: for more details of FJ trial re-read chapter 40: Deceit, some of the content on this chapter is taken from it. Readers discretion is advised)

She was upset by the fact that she being held captive. Feng Jiu woke up on a bed and tried to get up from but was dazed, she couldn't get up. A male voice startled her: "You are awake my queen, please don't try to get up and rest some more."

Feng Jiu gasped when she heard the unknown voice. "This doesn't sound like Dong Hua." She turned to see who it was... "Oh no"

"What is the matter? Are you all right? Come here lets us rest for a while." A pair of strong arms grabbed her and pulled her close to an unknown chest. Feng Jiu immediately pulled away from his embrace.

"What's wrong?" the man surprisingly asked. Feng Jiu couldn't believe her eyes, the man in front of her was Weng Chan.

"Where am I? Why are you here sleeping next to me?" Feng Jiu furiously glared at him.

"You are joking? You don't know who I am?" Weng Chan sweetly smiled at Feng Jiu; he lifts up his hand to caress her face when Feng Jiu hit it away from her.

"Don't touch me." She pulled away further from Weng Chan. Her heart was beating too fast for her. "Where the hell am I?" she asked herself.

"Seems to me that my queen needs to be reminded who is her king!" Weng Chan sternly said.

"Get away from me!!! Get out!!" Feng Jiu was shouting.

"You can't throw me out from your room you are my queen. Quit acting up." Weng Chan playfully said.

"Help, somebody help me!!!" Feng Jiu found herself corralled by Weng Chan. He firmly held her hands and gaze her eyes with his black stone eyes.

"Li'er, calm down."

"I'm not Li'er, and you are not my king!" She was trying to free herself from his strong grip. Weng Chan let go of her hands, he wickedly smiled at her face and forcibly kissed her. Feng Jiu broke the kiss and slapped Weng Chan's face hard. Weng Chan held her face with force.

"Let me go you brute." Although she was weak, she remembered herself defense moves that his fourth uncle taught her. And with no effort she kicked him hard on his shin. She saw a sword near her bed and grabbed it. "If you come closer, I will not hesitate to use this." She was huffing at this point but held her the sword firm.

"You dare to draw your sword against me? This is a capital offense punishable by death. I will not hesitate to send you to prison or execute you if that is your wish." Weng Chan angrily said to her.

"GET...AWAY...FROM...ME!!!!" Her eyes were full of menace.

Dong Hua was raging mad when he saw Weng Chan taking full advantage of his little fox.

Feng Jiu exerted herself fighting Weng Chan. Her forehead was throbbing, she could feel pain where her birthmark used to be, her strength was leaving her body again; everything around her was spinning around until she passed out. After she opened her eyes, she saw Weng Chan with a bowl on his hand. He looked concerned. "Your maid found you on the floor unconscious. She alerted me; I immediately came, and I've been taking care of you ever since. Please forgive my brutishness." Weng Chan said with a low voice.

"What happened to me?" Feng Jiu was frightened.

"We don't know. The royal physician came over and checked you, he said that you are malnourished. He thinks because you are so weak that's why you passed out. That also explains why you were acting strange. You need lots of rest to recuperate. I asked the palace chef to make you a nurture soup to help you gain your health back. Here let me help you." He delicately placed some pillows behind Feng Jiu for her to sit comfortably.

"I can feed myself" Feng Jiu protested.

"I know, but I want to do it. I felt horrible for the way I treated you yesterday. Please let me take care of you as a good gesture to retribute my bad behavior towards you." He was looking at Feng Jiu with pleading eyes. His face and gaze softened; his guard was down.

"Is it bitter?" She innocently asked. Weng Chan tenderly smiled at her. "Just a bit, but I brought your favorite sweets to counteract the bitterness. Here, peach candies" He gave her one to taste.

"You are so pale Li'er, please drink the soup first." He fed her the soup until she finished it all.

"Thank you." Feng Jiu said. Weng Chan sweetly smiled at her. Feng Jiu felt uncomfortable around him. "Please leave I am tired already."

"I know you are tired, but to ease my mind let me watch over you for tonight. I promise I would not harm you." Weng Chan tenderly said.

"I want to be alone; I don't trust you." Feng Jiu glared back at him.

"I will not sleep in your bed; I will sleep on the couch. Go on and go to sleep, I will be reading my reports here." Weng Chan said and ignored her. Feng Jiu wrapped herself in all the sheets forming a cocoon, that way she felt safer. She stared at Weng Chan until tiredness overcame her. She fell heavily asleep and started to dream. In her dream she was inside a cage crying out "Dijun, where are you? I need you to come for me, I'm held against my will. Please save me. Dijun you promised me to never let me go but you didn't come for me. Dijun I love you, please find me."

Dong Hua felt pained knowing that she was calling out for him and he wasn't able to get to her.

Weng Chan had summoned the doctor again. "She is hallucinating. Her body temperature is too high she needs to be submerged in the coldest water that you can find. Quickly your majesty before we lose her." The doctor urged Weng Chan.

"The garden pond is always covered your majesty, so the water should be colder than the rest." Her maid suggested. Weng Chan not wasting time grabbed Feng Jiu feverish body and carried her to the garden pond, he jumped in the water with her. He held her close to him for a while. The water temperature was cold enough to bring her fever down. Feng Jiu was shivering and mumbling incoherently. Weng Chan just held her and calmed her down until she quiet down and felt asleep in his arms.

Feng Jiu was weak but was able to sit up by herself. She was wondering why her body was reacting so feeble. "Why am I getting sick so fast? I feel fine for a bit and then I pass out. My head keeps throbbing. Why is Weng Chan on this mortal trial with me?" Feng Jiu was determined to find out exactly where she was. Then it hit her. Feng Jiu remembered the conversation she had with Fate at the Zhu Xian Terrace: "Regardless if you believe or not, your fate remains the same. Aren't you afraid of the judgement you and your beloved will face for going against heavens will? No one can escape it. It was interesting to see that you felt the threads of destiny tangled to your fated husband when you met him. The threads don't lie Bai Feng Jiu. Consider that."

"This is her handiwork; her way to separate us. I will not fall into her trap." Feng Jiu was resolved to find a way out of her current situation.

Weng Chan woke up. "You are awake, how do you feel?"

"I've heard that you been taking care of me for the past three days. So thank you."

"Is my duty as your husband." Weng Chan sweetly responded. Weng Chan carefully sat next to her to feel her temperature. He touched her forehead and Feng Jiu immediately flinched at his contact. "Please don't touch me." Feng Jiu glared at Weng Chan.

"I feel better now, there is no need for you to be in my room taking care of me. I need to get some fresh air."

"What you need is rest and plenty of it, doctors' orders. He will come later on to check on you, I will let him know that you are awake. Stay in bed and drink your medicine, it will help you regain your health back." He placed the covers over Feng Jiu and reached the medicine bowl to feed her. "Here, drink" Weng Chan spoon fed her. She obediently opened her mouth and in silence Weng Chan feed her medicine. "Good girl. Now rest I will be back with the doctor." He got up and left her side.

One night she woke up abruptly having chest pains. It was hard for her to breathe. She felt heartbroken. "Dong Hua, where are you? I miss you so much" Feng Jiu started to cry and couldn't sleep for the rest of the night. Weng Chan came to her room in the morning only to find her desponded. "Are you feeling all right? Why are you like this? He was truly worried about Feng Jiu. She saw something in Weng Chan eyes for the first time...concern, sincerity, support. She couldn't help crying in front of him. Weng Chan just hold her and let her cry. "Whatever it is that is bringing you down, let it all out. I'm here, I will not say nothing if you don't want me to talk, just cry Li'er, come here." Feng Jiu cried in his arms, she felt cradled for the first time in a long time. Weng Chan patted her back to make her feel comfortable. Her tears stained his robe, and he didn't mind it. She felt secured in his embrace, when she realized it, she quickly broke from it. Weng Chan noticed but didn't said nothing about it. Little by little Weng Chan was sneaking inside her mind and heart. Healing her brokenhearted state and making her feel safe, cherished, and protected. Weng Chan did many things to make her feel special and Feng Jiu noticed. But she will always remain guarded, she couldn't love him. No matter what he did, her heart belong to her true husband Dong Hua Dijun.

"Li'er why can you see that I really care for you. My feelings are sincere. Give me a chance to make you happy. I will make the impossible to see you smile more. I love to hear your laugh. Is like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day." He held her hand into his chest. "Can you feel my heart? Every heartbeat is just for you Li'er." Feng Jiu withdrew her hand from his chest, tears formed in her eyes. "I know how you feel about me, I just..." Weng Chan didn't let her finish when he leaned down and kisses her. Feng Jiu opened her eyes and broke the kiss. Weng Chan stands back and gazes at her with a wicked smile on his face.

How dare that dreg kissed my Jiu'er!!! Dong Hua was livid. The scene changed.

"Your highness the man seating on the white horse upfront is your husband."

"Dijun?" Feng Jiu excitedly expressed. Feng Jiu's hopes were awarded when she saw that the man on the white horse was her beloved husband Song Xuanren Dijun. He was alive and was asking for her return.

"Your highness it is best to go back to your chambers before the guards notice that we are missing, and things get more complicated."

"I want to run to him now!" Feng Jiu broke her maid grip and ran as fast as she could towards the gates. Unfortunately, she was caught by the guards. "Let me go, Dijun, Dijun right here, I'm right here!!!" She screamed her heart out.

Song Xuanren heard her voice. "If you lay a finger on her, I will burn the entire city with you on it Yin Zheng. Let her go now! This is my last warning."

"Li'er, do you really want to go back to Song Xuanren?" He earnestly asked her.

"I don't belong to you Yin Zheng, I'm not your wife. You made me believed that I was married to you."

"I know, but Li'er you are the queen of my heart; I sincerely care for you. If you go back, I'm afraid that I will not see you again." Weng Chan sadly told her.

"What makes you think that you will see me again? Obviously, I'm not your queen and you will not claim Chen Yu as your own. All that you did for me was to gain favor and power. I'm not a pawn to be played on a gameboard." Feng Jiu angrily replied.

"No, you're not, Li'er and whoever made you believed that is wrong. I sincerely care about you and I want you to be happy." Weng Chan pleaded.

"Then let me go and I'll be happy."

"But I know that you will not be happy. I know my tigress well" Weng Chan delicately held her hands.

"Why you say that?" Feng Jiu confusedly asked him. Weng Chan met her eyes and tenderly said: "What is good and bad, sweet Li'er are in the eye of the beholder. Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect. It means that you've decided to look beyond the imperfections. You can't change the past, but you can ruin the present by worrying about the future." Weng Chan told her.

"Let me go, Yin Zheng think about your people. They don't deserve to die because of me. I will talk to Song Xuanren to retrieve our army and leave in peace before he goes on a killing spree. You are a king, and your people depend on you now more than ever. Stop this war now and let me go. I will be all right. I won't forget how you took care of me when I needed it the most. For that I will be eternally grateful. But this needs to end Yin Zheng, my heart belongs to another."

"Know this Li'er, if you ever need my help in anything, I will be here for you. Our kingdoms will always be at war for reasons beyond your knowledge. Today Song Xuanren wins, tomorrow who knows? Please take care of yourself and remember that my palace and my heart will always have a place for you. Send me a missive if you ever need me and I will do the impossible to help you. That is a promise Li'er." He gently kissed her hands. "Now go"

Song Xuanren opened up his arms and met hers. "Dijun, you came for me" Feng Jiu cried at his embrace. "Of course, I came for my queen" Song Xuanren told her. He looked at Feng Jiu and caressed her face "Come let's go home."

Song Xuanren Dijun grabbed her hand and entered the palace together. Many beautiful women bowed to her when she entered the throne room. "Who are they husband?" Feng Jiu curiously asked.

"They are my consorts" Song Xuanren said.

"Consorts?" She was being skeptical.

"Yes, my queen. They are all happy that you are back. Now you can resume your duties and take care of them."

"I thought that we agreed on not having a harem." She replied at him

"When did we made that arrangement? You know how important is to leave heirs for Chen Yu, so far you haven't been able to give me one. You were gone for almost a year now, so I had to secure a future heir on the throne in case..." Feng Jiu's heart pained. She looked at her husband eyes and faked a smile "Of course Dijun. I understand. If you excuse me, I need to refresh myself. I'm tired from the trip."

"That is totally understandable, your room is ready for you. Anything that you need just tell the maids to get it for you. I will see you later. I will stay for the banquet." Song Xuanren told her.

"My room? I thought...I mean... we don't share one?" Feng Jiu asked him confused.

"Of course, we don't, we never had. Are you all right?" Song Xuanren furrowed his brows. Men Li please accompany your mistress and tend to her, she needs to rest"

"Yes Dijun." Men Li bowed to him. "This way your highness."

"Please excuse me with our guests." Feng Jiu left the throne room sad. "Something is off here, Dijun is not the same with me anymore."

"Your highness needs a warm bath, let me prepare you one."

"Thank you, Men Li,"

Feng Jiu soaked for a while on the bathtub trying to recollect her thoughts. "Ever since I came back, Dijun has not hold me or kissed me. What is going on here? And now he has all these consorts?" "Maybe I'm overreacting, we haven't got the time to be alone. I will wait for him."

She woke up early in morning. She called Men Li to show her Dijun's chambers. Men Li took her to his room. Feng Jiu opened the door and walked to his bedroom only to find him with another woman in his embrace. "Ji Heng!!! What is she doing here? Dijun!!!" She shouted.

He opened his eyes and saw Feng Jiu's angry stare. "I waited on you last night, now I know why you never showed up. What is she doing here?" She pointed at Ji Heng.

"She is my consort; she has the right to be here." Song Xuanren blatantly answered her.

"Oh since when?" Feng Jiu shouted.

"How dare you come to my chambers uninvited." Song Xuanren angrily told her.

"Answer me Dijun since when? I don't need an invitation to come to my husband's room!!!, YOU GET OUT NOW!!!!" Feng Jiu angrily glared at Ji Heng, she gathered her clothes and quickly ran outside his room.

"You can't barge into my room and dismiss my consorts from my bed. What is wrong with you?" Song Xuanren said.

"I will barge to your room any time I want, and I don't need permission from you or anybody else to dismiss anyone I please to dismiss. I patiently waited for you and here you are entertaining another. You quickly backed out from your promise to me. I'm your queen, I just got back. Don't you care about me anymore?" Feng Jiu's anger was building up. Song Xuanren looked at her in disbelief. "You have never been like this with me? So rude and disrespectful."

"Rude and disrespectful?" Feng Jiu raised an eyebrow at Song Xuanren and angrily slapped his face. "Is this the welcoming that I receive from my husband? You build a harem behind my back, against your promise, faked your death and left me for almost a year in another kingdom so you can have the time to entertain your carnal desires with the excuse of producing an heir to throne and brought Ji Heng to your bed???? And on top of that you are accusing me of being rude and disrespectful??? Why did you wage war against Yin Zheng to turn around and hurt me like this? Tell me Dijun when did I failed you? Am I that despicable in your eyes that you need to have other women to satisfy your needs? Speak to me!!! Feng Jiu clenched her fists.

"Li'er calm down." Song Xuanren serenely said to her.

"Li'er??? Who am I to you Dijun?"

"You are my queen and a feisty and jealous one with a mean right hand I shall add." He touched his face and smiled. "Only you dare to slap my face."

"Are you mocking me?"

Song Xuanren got up and strongly grabbed her arms. "I will show you not to challenge me again." He pushed her to his bed and forcibly got on top of her. "Since you are being aggressive and came to see me because you miss me, I will let you have what you came for." His eyes full of rage met hers.

"Let me go you monster. You will not touch me again." Feng Jiu was struggling to free herself from his strong grip.

"Want to bet? You are my wife, and I will do as I please with you. You think that I will let you have your way with me? Oh you are gravely mistaken! You need to learn to respect me and I will gladly give you a lesson my dear wife".

Dong Hua saw her whole painful ordeal, tears escape from his eyes. His fist was clenched to the point to turn his own hand bloody. Dong Hua couldn't hold his anger any longer. "Mia Lou will pay for this!!!!!"

The next scene Dong Hua saw was when Si Ming got to Feng Jiu.

"Si Ming, what are you doing here?" Feng Jiu halfheartedly asked him.

"Dihou, I'm here to see you." Si Ming sadly said looking at her beaten form.

"Where is Dong Hua? Why he hasn't come?" Feng Jiu weakly asked Si Ming.

"He is being held off by a higher power, preventing him to get to you."

"Did he send you?"

"Yes, he did your highness. But I'm also here for another issue."

"Tell me"

"The man who did this to you is a puppet created by Miao Lou. He is not the real Song Xuanren. Miao Lou has Ji Heng here to guarantee that her plan will succeed. Dijun was supposed to take Song Xuanren body but he couldn't. You will face a painful death your highness since you failed to complete your love trial with Lord Weng Chan. That is your punishment decreed by heaven for deceiving fate. I'm sorry Dihou, but Dijun is not able to come right now. He's fighting hard to get to you." Si Ming told her.

"Is he in trouble?" Feng Jiu asked worryingly.

"Yes, but don't worry, he will overcome it. You two will be reunited again soon. That is all I'm allowed to share with you right now."

"Painful death huh?"

"I'm sorry Dihou. After this, your ascension trial waits for you at Qing Qui. Dijun will help you with your ascension."

"Thank you, Si Ming."

Song Xuanren scoffed at Feng Jiu. "You really know how to deliver a speech my dear wife, but my patience is running low, what will it take for you to properly address your highness hmm? Is just a bow that's all you need to do."

"Then you bow to her and kiss her feet, if you are able to do that, then I will bow" Feng Jiu openly mocked him

"That is enough Li'er!!!" He got up from his seat and came close to Feng Jiu. He took her face in his big hand and sneered at her. "You will do as I said!"

"I will not!" She took his hand off her face and met his glare. "I have lost all respect towards you the moment that you put a hand on me. You are a coward imposing your authority on those who are weak, especially defenseless women that you abuse for your pleasure. Mark my words, your reign is coming to an end. Even if I die today, you will all remember my words." She turned around to leave the court room when she felt a piercing on her back. Ji Heng shot an arrow that pierced her heart. She turned around to see who it was then closed her eyes and fell on the floor.

"Dijun, Dijun" Feng Jiu faint voice was calling her beloved.

Dong Hua finally saw what he needed to see. He was angry that fate, Miao Lou and Ji Heng abused his beloved little fox. He sensed Miao Lou's growing powers, he needed to strengthen her seal. At the same time, he concluded that his Jiu'er was afraid of end alone again. Her worries of not wanting children, and sharing him with others, reflected in her trial. Her words resonated in his mind: "Tell me Dijun when did I failed you? Am I that despicable in your eyes..."

Although Dong Hua was sure that Feng Jiu loved him, he knew that Weng Chan was able to gain a place in her heart too. Dong Hua analytical mind concluded that his reappearance to Feng Jiu's life triggered her unbalance emotional state. She couldn't deal with her mixed emotions when she saw Weng Chan again.

"Is there a possibility that she loves him too and she is not aware of it?" Dong Hua thought. "It can't be right, Jiu'er had always been true to me." He knew how empathic his little fox is and how she seeks comfort in others when she needs it. He had seen this behavior before in her. Feng Jiu stirred in his arms hinting him that she was about to wake up. "How was your nap Jiu'er?"

"Sorry, I didn't mean to fall asleep."

"You have the bad habit on falling asleep when you soak on water. I'm glad that I'm here with you to prevent you from drowning. Are you feeling better?"

"Yes. I'm more refreshed now."

"Are you hungry?"

"No. I just want to be in your arms Dong Hua, where I belong."

"My little fox, my arms are only yours to be."

"Yours forever. Don't think of getting rid of me because I won't let you."

"I won't leave you alone again Jiu'er. Wherever I need to go I will take you with me."

"Dijun... please... don't make promises that you are not able to keep."

"Jiu'er this one, I will make an effort to keep. The time we've been apart has been difficult for me to too. Our responsibilities take too much time away from each other. I don't like to see you like this my love. So, from now on if I need to go for some reason back to Tai Chen or anywhere else, I want you to be with me. We'll make arrangements here in Qing Qui so you can accompany me. We still in our adaptation phase, and...."

"And what?"

"It's important that we spend much time together for the sake of our marital bliss. Jiu'er, is all my fault little fox. Please forgive me if I ever made you feel unaided. I don't want to neglect your needs or feelings. You need me just as much as I need you. I want to give you everything that you need to be happy with me."

"You mean it Dong Hua?" Feng Jiu asked him with her pleading eyes.

"I mean it Jiu'er. Are you happy with me?"

"To finally be able to be with you like this, it has been my lifetime dream. You are my mate and my everything Dong Hua; I just can't be away from you for too long. I love you so much that sometimes I can't find the right words to describe how you make me feel. To receive and feel your love for me is so overwhelming. I'm more than happy, I'm grateful. Jiu'er is not complete without Dong Hua Dijun."

"And I'm not complete without my sweet little fox. I love you Jiu'er and I will do everything and anything to make you happy for all lifetimes."

"I love you, too, Dong Hua. I will always love you no matter what." Both of them laid still in the calm, quiet evening. Feng Jiu nuzzled her head into Dong Hua chest listening to the steady beat of his heart. "This is home" She whispered.

Dong Hua inhaled her sweet peach blossom scent emanating from her hair. He softly kissed her forehead and smiled content having his little fox in his arms. "You are my lifeline" he told her.

They tenderly gazed at each other reading their emotions stemming thru their eyes.

"I can watch you for an eternity and beyond and never get tired to contemplate your beauty little fox. I'm so fortunate to have you in my life. You were destined to be mine." Dong Hua caressed her cheek.

"Dong Hua, thank you for loving me the way you do. I promise to please you in every way and love you for all lifetimes." Feng Jiu tenderly smiled at him.

"You please me more than I deserve little fox. You awaken my cold heart and soul. That only is something that even I can't repay." Dong Hua replied.

"Your love is enough for me Dong Hua. Don't ever let me go no matter what happen between us."

"Oh? And who says that I will let you go. Never! You are stick with this old man for all lifetimes."

"For all lifetimes and beyond. Just you and me". They stayed in their embrace watching the sunset.

Dong Hua conjured a small tent near the mountain hot springs for them. He knew how much his beloved enjoys star gazing. Feng Jiu made a bonfire. They laid down inside enjoying their company.

"Thank you, husband for this. I needed to escape for a bit my daily routine. I just want to have you like this more often, with no interruptions or disruptions."

"I will not have it any other way Jiu'er. I'm glad to see you completely relaxed." Dong Hua stirred his hand on her back. He knew his little fox loves to be snuggled. Feng Jiu's stomach growled.

Dong Hua laughed. "Your stomach is so commanding. Here have some porridge with dried fruits" He spoon fed her. "Hmmm thank you."

"You're welcome. I like taking care of you. It's what I want to do," he says quietly, but his eyes betray him as triumph flares in their black depths.

"You make me feel cherished."

"That's because you are," he murmurs and her heart clenches.

"You have done so much for me already. Can I ask one more thing from you husband?"

"Ask away little fox."

"Make love to me, please."

"Your wish is my command my empress. I was waiting for you," he says softly, his dark stone black and luminous eyes sparkled.

"I'm glad you waited."

"You are worth waiting for, my sweet Jiu'er." He tips her chin up with his finger, leans down, and kisses Feng Jiu tenderly.

"So are you." Feng Jiu smile. "Though I feel I like I cheated. I didn't have to wait long for you at all."

Dong Hua grins. "Am I that much of a prize?"

"Yes." Feng Jiu replied with her voice full of yearning for his touch.

"You're so beautiful." He dips his head lower to the base of Feng Jiu's throat and slowly began undoing her robes, revealing her skin. "Such beautiful alabaster skin." His breath is soft as his lips gliding down to her breasts.

"Dong Hua." He hears the quiet plea in her voice and reached down to continue with his kisses.

"Let me love you slowly this time Jiu'er." He whispered and circled her nipple with his luscious tongue before pulling it into his mouth and tugging hard.

"Oh!" Feng Jiu moaned and squirmed, tilting her pelvis up to tempt him. Dong Hua grins against her skin and turns his attention to her other breast.

"Impatient little fox?" He then sucks hard her other nipple. Feng Jiu tugged his hair. Dong Hua groans and peers up. "I'll restrain you," he warns.

"Please take me" Feng Jiu begged.

"All in good time," he murmurs against her skin. His hand travels down at an infuriatingly slow speed to her hip as he worships her nipple with his mouth. Feng Jiu moaned loudly, her breath short and shallow, as she tries once more to entice him, rocking against him. He's thick and heavy and close, but he's taking his own sweet leisurely time with her, ignoring her pleads.

"Please husband I really need you." Feng Jiu said panting. Burning black stone eyes searched hers. Dong Hua looks momentarily bewildered and confused. He releases Feng Jiu's hands and sits back on his heels, pulling her into his lap. "Okay, little fox, we'll do this your way." He lifts her up and slowly lowers her on to him.

"Ah, yeeeesss Dong Hua this is it. This is what I want. This is what I need." Curling her arms around his neck, she twists her fingers in his hair, glorying in the feeling of him inside. Feng Jiu starts to move. Taking control, taking him at her pace, at her speed. Dong Hua moans, and his lips find Feng Jiu's, and they're lost. Feng Jiu trailed her fingers through Dong Hua's chest. He lies on his back, still and quiet beside her as they catch their breath. His hand thrums rhythmically down Feng Jiu's back.

"Such an enchanting woman you are" Dong Hua whispered while watching his beloved sensual movements. He felt her inner muscles getting tight, indicating that she was close. Dong Hua grunted and pulled her beneath him.

"Is my turn now little fox. Let's take this slow," he whispers, and it's a command. He kisses the right corner of her mouth. "Slow." He kisses the left corner. "Slow, little fox." With his kisses he brought her climax down a notch, calming her and at the same time amplifying pleasure. Feng Jiu's traitors body responded to his commands. Dong Hua tugged her bottom lip with his teeth. "Let's take this slow, Jiu'er. I want to savor you leisurely." He unfurls his fingers in her hair, keeping Feng Jiu in place as his tongue continues to invades her mouth, seeking, tasting, calming, inflaming. Gradually sending waves of desire to her body. Feng Jiu completely submitted to his mouth.

"Oh, my, Dong Hua can really kiss." She mentally said. Dong Hua heard her thought and mentally smiled.

"I'm going to kiss you until you forget what day it is..." Dong Hua whispered thru his lips.

Dong Hua hands running small teasing circles at the top of her thighs so that the tips of his thumbs touch Feng Jiu . . . touching where she wants to be touched. Feng Jiu suddenly gasped. She runs her fingers into his hair and deepen the kiss, bringing her flush body against his. Dong Hua groans into Feng Jiu's mouth and cups her head, cradling her as they kiss-really kiss, their tongues exploring the oh-so-familiar but still oh-so-new, oh so- exciting territory that is the other's mouth.

Dong Hua broke their passionate kisses and tugged her head up to meet his gaze filled with carnal desire. "You engulf me into maddens little fox, I can't enough of your mouth." Feng Jiu smiled lost in his embrace.

Desire detonates like an incendiary device igniting their bloodstream. Feng Jiu grasped his head, her fingers weaving into his silvery hair, and tugged hard so her lips find his. Dong Hua gasps, surprised by her assault, giving her tongue free passage into his mouth. Dong Hua groans and kisses her back, his lips and tongue hungry, and for a moment they consume each other, lost in tongues and lips and breaths and sweet, sweet sensation as they rediscover each other all thru the night.

By morning Feng Jiu feels too warm. Dong Hua's head is on her shoulder, and he's breathing softly on her neck while he sleeps, his legs threaded through Feng Jiu's body, his arm around her waist. She lingers on the edge of consciousness, aware that if she wakes fully Dong Hua will wake up too. Hazily Feng Jiu's mind wanders through the events of yesterday evening. A bright smile draws on her face.

Dong Hua felt that his beloved woke up. "Hey what are you doing up, are you okay?" Sleepy black stones eyes search hers.

"I'm ok. Good morning my Dijun." Feng Jiu run her fingers through his silvery hair.

"Little fox, you look lovely this morning," he says, kissing her cheek, and Feng Jiu lights up from within.

"Thank you for taking care of me last night."

Dong Hua stretched out and pulled Feng Jiu into his body. "My pleasure little fox. I love you."

"And I love you too." She gave him a chaste kiss.

"Let's soak for a while, shall we?"

"I'll love that."

They soaked for a while and ate some dried fruits and porridge. By mid-day they descended from the mountain and head their way back to Qing Qui. Once they arrived, Migu told them that Zhe Yan and Bai Zhen were waiting on them at the study.

"Well, well, well, the love birds finally are back." Zhe Yan jokingly said. Bai Zhen smiled when they entered the study.

"Dijun, Xiao Jiu." Bai Zhen greeted them.

"Come here kittling." Feng Jiu ran into his arms and hugged Zhe Yan. "Oh, my sweet darling how I missed you." Zhe Yan kissed her forehead.

"I missed you too. And you too fourth uncle." She hugged him too. "You look well Xiao Jiu". Bai Zhen told her.

"What brings you here old bird." Dong Hua teasingly asked Zhe Yan.

"I came to see our Xiao Jiu of course." Zhe Yan replied, but his eyes said otherwise. Dong Hua noticed.

"What's the matter Zhe Yan" Dong Hua mentally asked him.

"I need to talk to you in private Dong Hua is important." Dong Hua gave him a small nod.

"Dijun, I came over two days ago, but you were indisposed." Bai Zhen said.

"What is it Bai Zhen?"

"We finished training our army. Mo Yan stayed behind to take care of the last arrangements. We would like you to come to the northern lands to oversee our progress. Mo Yan has some things that he wishes to discuss with you in person." Bai Zhen replied.

"Very well, we'll leave in two days." Dijun said.

"Have you guys eaten?" Feng Jiu eagerly asked them.

"We had some brunch already Xiao Jiu, don't bother." Bai Zhen said while eyeing Dong Hua. He knew he doesn't like her to cook for others any more.

"I'll ask Migu to prepare tea for us." Feng Jiu told them.

"We'll take tea and some cakes if you don't mind." Bai Zhen said.

"All right, I'll be back, please be at ease." Feng Jiu smiled and exited the study leaving them alone so they can freely talk.

"Say what you need to say Bai Zhen. You don't show up here unless is important." Dong Hua expressionless said.

"Nothing escapes Dijun's eyes. We have reason to believe that Miao Lou is raising an army. Although we have not received any reports of breaches in the border security system, our sources have found clues to a surging revolt in the forbidden demon lands." Bai Zhen reported.

"I was afraid of this. We need to coordinate our efforts to be prepared. Let's discussed this further with Mo Yan when we arrive two days from today. We have to summon Yan Chiwu."

"As you wish Dijun. Yan Chiwu will meet us there."

"Are we taking Xiao Jiu with us?" Zhe Yan asked.

"Of course, she is coming." Feng Jiu said taking everyone by surprise. Dong Hua smiled at her. "Yes, she is coming with us."

"Please have some tea. Meanwhile please stay with us until we leave for the northern lands" Feng Jiu served them.

At night time...

Feng Jiu was restless; she tossing and turning in bed having a bad dream. In her dream, she saw herself dressed in red, taking down her phoenix crown and throwing it to the floor, it shattered into pieces "It's as if I'm trapped in a dream from which I cannot wake. In this dream, I walk alone on a dense fog, vast and boundless. I can't see any light. I'm not willing to turn back, yet I also don't know what's ahead. I just wish that I can wake up from this dream one day." After that she started to bleed profusely and saw a being coming from her insides screeching.

She jerked back and gasped for air. "What is wrong with me? Why am I dreaming this?" She saw that Dong Hua was not in bed with her, his side of the bed was cold. It was late at night. She got up to look for him. Feng Jiu honed her fox hearing and heard voices coming from the main walkway. She decided to sneak in and see who was having a secret meeting at this hour. She placed an invisible barrier to avoid being detected. She got closer and saw Zhe Yan talking with Dong Hua having tea together.

"What is keeping you awake old phoenix?" Dong Hua serenely asked.

"I'm worried about you and Xiao Jiu." Zhe Yan answered.

"Worried about us? We are fine Zhe Yan." Dong Hua replied.

"Let me rephrase myself. I'm worried mostly about Bai Yi's visitor Dong Hua. If my suspicions are correct, Bai Yi is brewing something against you and Xiao Jiu, but mainly against you. He took him to see Bai Zhi and we haven't seen him in days. While you and Xiao Jiu were away, Bai Zhi hasn't been in court. He never misses a session unless is something important that will keep him away. Plus, Bai Zhen is acting weird. He didn't say where he was for the past two days. He showed up to my house after looking out for you two. I don't need to tell you what you already know about this visitor."

"I already know his relationship with Bai Yi Zhe Yan. But I don't think that Bai Yi will move on with his plan if he values his precious reputation. He cares too much for it." Dong Hua peacefully continued sipping his tea.

"I don't trust him Dong Hua, he's unstable. We don't know what treat he poses to you two or Xiao Jiu's ruling."

"I will make sure that nothing happens Zhe Yan. I have eyes and ears everywhere."

"I know your methods Dong Hua just need to be watchful. Bai Yi hasn't fully accepted you as part of the Bai Clan, he can influence his father and bend Bai Zhi's will to his tactics."

"Bai Zhi will never betray me Zhe Yan, I trust him. Besides Bai Rui will not let him go astray."

"So you know already who he is?"

"Of course I know. Is my business to know things that relate to me and my wife."

"Does she know?"

"I'm not certain that she does. Besides, I don't want to complicate things between us. She's been acting off lately."

"Off how?" Zhe Yan burrowed his brows.

"Moody, gloomy, desponded. She hardly eats or sleeps enough. I think she's stressed out."

"About what?"

"I'm still finding out"

"Women. Could it be that she has too much in her plate? She's been working nonstop Dong Hua while you were away. She is still young and growing."

"I know. Is part of who she is. I can only assist her when she asks me to and she doesn't do it often unless I offer first. I don't want to interrupt her growing phase as a ruler. My main concern is to make her happy Zhe Yan. I will do anything to make that happen."

"You're hardly recognizable you Dong Hua."

"Oh?" He raised his famous eyebrow to Zhe Yan.

"Don't get me wrong, you are the same icy stone badass son of a rock that I always known you to be, but it seems that marriage has changed an aspect of your frozen persona, melting it at least a small percent. To me that's huge."

Dong Hua smirked at Zhe Yan sarcastic remark. His lips curled a tiny bit when he detected his little fox nearby. "Jiu'er is the most important person in my life now Zhe Yan."

"So when are you going to make me a grandpa?"

"We are still working on that."

"You are older than time itself. What are you waiting for? Are you sure that your reproductive system is not dormant? I know you two are like two hormonal mandarin ducks. Always humping each other.

Feng Jiu couldn't help to giggle when she heard that. "Little fox I know you are there give it up." He mentally told her. Feng Jiu gasped and placed down her barrier.

"Fùqīn stop berating my mate." She sat on Dong Hua's lap.

"I'm just curious Xiao Jiu with all the humping that you guys do is about time to see little kittlings running around here."

"I have no control of that fùqīn."

"What are you doing up so late Jiu'er? You couldn't sleep?" Dong Hua asked her.

"I woke up to a cold bed husband." Feng Jiu cutely pouted to Dong Hua.

"I'll be right over in a minute, go and wait for me all right?"

"Okay." She gave him a kiss to his cheek.

"Hey!!! Don't I get one too?" Zhe Yan protested.

"Of course, fùqīn." Feng Jiu got up and gave Zhe Yan a sloppy kiss on his cheek. Making Zhe Yan laughed.

"Come over tomorrow, I want to examine you before you guys leave." Zhe Yan stared at her hinting her to come alone. Feng Jiu understood.

"I will. Good night fùqīn."

"See you tomorrow darling." Feng Jiu nodded at left.

Dong Hua waited for her to leave. "Find out what is bothering her Zhe Yan. I know she confides in you."

"Don't worry Dong Hua, I will give her a medical examination and see if there is anything physically wrong with her."

"Don't give her any contraceptive peaches Zhe Yan. I know she's been taking them. I mean it" Dong Hua said on a warning tone.

"Don't worry all right, I will take my leave. Don't keep Xiao Jiu waiting." Zhe Yan got up and left Dong Hua side.

"Hmm she is getting good using her stealth powers. If it wasn't for the connection, we share..." Dong Hua pondered. He transported back to his chambers where Feng Jiu was patiently waiting for him. He sensed that she was hesitant to speak to him, so he laid down and opened his arms to her. "Come here Jiu'er it's late let's get some rest."

Feng Jiu willingly went to his arms and snuggled with him inhaling his smoothing sandalwood scent. She closed her eyes and felt weightless. Her mind was fighting off Dong Hua's sleeping enchantment, but she couldn't resist it anymore, finally she fell into deep sleep. Dong Hua knowing that she was knocked out kissed her head and closed his eyes sighting. "Sleep now my sweet little fox."

At daybreak...

Dong Hua opened his eyes to find himself alone in bed. "How did she...?" He was astounded to find out that Feng Jiu was able to break his sleeping enchantment. "Jiu'er?" He called with no response. Dong Hua got up and started to search for her essence. She was on the other side of the palace. "Why is she there? My mischievous little fox what game are you playing now? All right I will seek you now. Be ready." He thought.

Dong Hua found his sleeping wife on a settee on one of the main terraces. She was peacefully laying down. Dong Hua noticed she was barefooted. "Hmmm this is odd of her. I'd never seen her walking around without shoes unless she morphed to her fox form when she woke up." Dong Hua was admiring her beautiful alabaster skin, she was glowing under the first rays of light. She looked so serene. Her phoenix flower was bright red. He carefully sat next to her to admire her close. He tenderly kissed her plumped lips. Stirring her up. Feng Jiu flutter her eyes open and yawned.

"Why does my lovely wife abandon me hmm?"

"What...how...why... Where am I and how did I get here?" Feng Jiu stuttered.

"Jiu'er I missed you at bed. You left me alone and came to sleep here. You don't remember how you got here?"

"I honestly don't remember Dong Hua."

Dong Hua gazed her eyes and saw that she was worried. Something was off with her but he didn't want to make her nervous. "Hmmm it doesn't matter, scoot over and let's enjoy the morning breeze together before you leave to see your father"

Feng Jiu cheerfully gave him space and they laid down embracing each other. Dong Hua secretly was scanning her energy and cultivation levels, he found a slight irregularity. "Are you hungry Jiu'er?"

"Not right now. I feel extremely tired, I just want to lay down a bit more."

"You should rest. If you want, we can postpone our trip to the northern lands."

"No, is important that we go Dong Hua. Besides Mo Yan is waiting for you also."

"Do you want to stay behind to rest?"

"No. I want to go with you."

"Okay Jiu'er, whatever you say. Let's rest a bit longer." He placed his arms around her not letting her move that easy. "You.... left during the night...is everything okay my love?" He said while pouting.

Feng Jiu smiled hearing the tone of his voice. "I'm fine Dong Hua. I probably sleep walked my way here."

"Hmmm you didn't put your shoes on so that could be a possibility. Are you cold?"

"No.... Dong Hua..."

"Yes?"

"Do you really... love me?"

"Of course, I love you. Nobody is more important than you Jiu'er. What's going on in that mind of yours?"

"Nothing. I just want to hear it." Feng Jiu shyly said.

"Look at me Jiu'er." He sweetly said.

"No one will break us apart. Not fate, not your family, not Miao Lou ... not even yourself. Nobody will keep me away from you. I love you too much. Do you doubt it?

Feng Jiu smiled upon hearing his words. "I love you too husband. No, I don't"

"You are my most precious treasure. Let's put the past behind us little fox. I had vowed not to go back to old myself and treat you cold. So don't worry about this. Whatever happens between us we can resolve it. Agreed?"

"Agreed husband. I dote you the most"

"I know, come here." Dong Hua lift her chin up and gave her a sweet kiss. Dong Hua groaned as he deepens the kiss, and Feng Jiu is lost to his usual primal response. He claimed her lips full of yearning. Dong Hua cool lips moving against her heated skin, and his tongue invading her mouth hungry and wanting. They we're both breathless. Desire detonates igniting their bloodstream ready to consume each other again, lost in their passion, longing, lips and breaths and the sweet sensation as they grind against each other craving one another.

"My sweet little fox, Jiu'er you unman me. I want to feel all of you." Dong Hua whispered. Feng Jiu throwed her head back and let out a strangled cry of pure pleasure feeling his body against hers.

"Let me hear you," Dong Hua murmured. "Don't move, just feel me." Feng Jiu opened her eyes, and saw Dong Hua gazing at her, hooded, licentious black stone eyes turned into dazed deep purple. He shifts, rolling his hips, holding her in place. Feng Jiu groaned while Dong Hua lips are at her throat, kissing her. "This is my favorite place. Buried in you little fox," he murmurs against her heated skin.

"Please, take me," Feng Jiu pleaded.

"Slow, Jiu'er." Dong Hua flexed his hips again radiating pleasure through his beloved. Feng Jiu loudly moaned she cupped his face and kissed him, consuming him. She heard his moaning in response.

"Love me. Please I'm ready."

Dong Hua raised her long chemise and slowly entered her to love her. After a while Dong Hua moved his hands to her thighs, and delicately his thumbs press at their apex, and Feng Jiu explode around him over and over and over and over, as he cries out in turn, letting go and calling out her name with love and joy. After steading their breaths, he asked her "Better?" Dong Hua whispers. Feng Jiu raised her head to see that he's grinning broadly.

"Much. You?" Feng Jiu answering grin reflects his.

"Yes, little fox. Let's take a bath before you go."

"So much for rest" she giggled.

After another passionate tryst at their bath chambers and when Dong Hua was finally satisfied, he let her go to see Zhe Yan.

"Fùqīn, I'm here" Feng Jiu yelled out.

"Finally, you came, I was beginning to think that you were going to ditch me out!"

"I was delayed..." Feng Jiu face flushed.

"Say no more...I don't want those images inside my head." Zhe Yan teasingly said embarrassing her further.

Fùqīn please!!!!

"I know how you two are when you near each other. You have grown to be as shameless as your husband."

"I strive to learn from the best"

"That you do well. Now Xiao Jiu tell your old man what is going on with you."

"Lately I've been having weird dreams, so I'm not sleeping well. I've lost my appetite so I'm not eating well either. Last night I believe I sleep walked and ended up in the other side of the palace. And because all that I feel extremely tired with no energy. Which is weird because I'm energetic all the time. And it can explain my strange mood swings. Which I can't pin pout the reasons."

"Any other symptoms that you can think of?"

"Nope, that sums it all."

"You don't feel physically unwell?"

"Other than what I told you, no."

"Let me take your pulse Xiao Jiu." Zhe Yan furrowed his brows and pressed his finger to her wrist a bit firmly. "Relax Xiao Jiu." Zhe Yan told her. He closed his eyes to carefully listen to her heartbeats. "Perhaps if you lay down..." Feng Jiu acquiesced and Zhe Yan sat next to her. "Hmm that is strange."

"What is strange?"

"I found an irregularity in you Xiao Jiu. Are you sure you don't feel bad physically?"

"No."

"Let me try something else. Please lay still and close your eyes. I will scan your whole being with my phoenix aura. It might take a couple of minutes."

"Okay."

Zhe Yan opened up his mind eye and entered her being. After a couple of minutes, he was able to see what was happening to his precious daughter. He abruptly opened his eyes again and looked at Feng Jiu. "Kittling please sit down."

"What is wrong with me fùqīn, am I sick?"

"No Xiao Jiu you're not sick... you are pregnant."
