Restraints

Barry POV

I twisted my hands in the rope wrapped around my wrists. They were rough, and my hands were raw and burning from the constant friction. My ankles were in the same condition, and my mouth was gagged. I really needed water. And a breath mint.

I needed to get out of here, but I had no idea where here was.

The last thing I remember was leaving the precinct, and then seeing a blue van screech to a stop. Next thing I know, I'm tied up and staring at a wall.

A very boring wall.

Like, seriously, why don't people put pictures up? That way I at least have something to look at. I would even take a crude child's finger painting over the plain grey wall.

That I have been staring at for the PAST TWELVE HOURS. I think.

Well, I did black out a few times, which was concerning.

Good gravy.

I pulled at the rope again.

Nothing.

Not that I expected it to work. It didn't work the first 62 times, why would it work now?

I heard something clang behind me, and I flopped around, trying to find the source.

"Shh!" someone one shushed.

"Sorry!" Another person whisper-yelled.

"This isn't the right room." The first voice said. I determined it was a female.

"We must've got the turn wrong." The second voice, a boy, said.

I made some noises, trying to grab their attention. Maybe they would help me get out of here. Or at least untie me and let me find my own way.

"Oh my god!" The girl said.

She ran in front of me and I got a good look at her. She had long, light brown hair, and soft yet calculating eyes. She quickly took the gag out of my mouth and I swallowed thickly.

"Thanks." I croaked.

"You alright?" she asked.

I felt someone working on the ropes around my wrist while the girl worked on the ones on my ankles.

"Yeah," I said, "just crazy thirsty."

"How long have you been here?" she asked.

"Twelve hours?" I guessed. "Maybe more?"

Her eyes widened.

I felt the ropes around my wrists fall off, and I immediately brought my hands forward.

The girl looked to the boy, "Cisco, come do these ropes, I'm going to look at his hands. I'm Caitlin, by the way."

"Barry." I said, holding my wrists out.

Caitlin gently ran her hands along my hands and arms, careful to avoid the open wound. I felt the ropes along my feet slacken, and I stood up.

I immediately became dizzy and collapsed back in the chair.

"Oh, bad idea," I mumbled.

"Yeah," Caitlin said.

"We need to get a move on," Cisco said, pointing to the air vent that they must have come through.

Caitlin nodded and gestured for me to follow. Caitlin led, I was in the middle, and Cisco was last, making sure the vent was back in place.

"What are they doing here?" I asked, "Why did they take me? Us?"

Caitlin glanced back at me, "They're experimenting on people. They take random, young people and start experimenting on them. No idea why. I don't know what they're trying to accomplish, but whatever it is, I definitely don't want to be an experiment."

"How long have you been here?" I asked.

"About a day." she said. "Cisco and I figured out a way out real quick."

"Were you awake the whole time?" I asked, thinking of my black outs.

"Yeah," Caitlin said, "And thankfully no one came in.

I just nodded. Which made me dizzy.

I still felt dizzy, and it was getting progressively worse. My head pounded and my body ached all of a sudden. I wanted to cry out in pain. I wanted to curl into a ball.

"We made it!" Caitlin whisper-shouted.

Cisco crawled forward and got the vent off. Fresh air flowed past me as I followed the pair out. I stood up next to them, and the dizziness came on tenfold.

"Uh oh," I whispered, then collapsed.

"Barry!" was the last thing I heard Caitlin yell before the world went black.

***** LINE BREAK *****

I came to slowly.

First, I registered sounds.

I heard voices conversing and leaves rustling.

Next, I started to see some.

There was lots of green and two blurry figures a ways away.

The third thing that came back was feeling.

Which honestly sucked.

It came back hard, hitting me with waves of pain in my head and bones.

I could't help the cry of pain that escaped my lips, grabbing the attention of the two blobs.

"Barry!" Caitlin said, rushing to my side,

 I whimpered, "Hurts."

Caitlin frowned and rubbed my hand, "I know. But there's nothing we can do right now. I'm so sorry."

"'s okay."

Caitlin smiled sadly.

Everything was so foggy. And it sounded like everything was echoing. I whimpered again.

"Rest, Barry," Caitlin said, "You'll be okay."

I knew she didn't know that. And I knew she knew that I knew she didn't know that.

But I was fine with that.

Maybe when I woke up again this would all be over.
