The sun shone brightly above the beach. Salty waves crashed to a rhythm and seagulls sang their screeching song up high. Some sand squished underfoot, some of it sparkled in the sun, and some of it made grand sandcastles decorated with sea shells galore.

"Quit narrating and get to the story!"

"Don't break the 4th wall Barry!"

Fine then, onto the story.

"Come on guys!" Cisco hollered, running towards the chilly blue water.

"But it's so cold!" Caitlin said.

"But it'll be fun!" Barry said, leading Caitlin towards the ocean, "And that's what we came here to do. Have fun."

"Ugh, fine."

Turns out, the water wasn't nearly as cold as Caitlin thought it would be. Even then, she still got out before the boys to be smart and reapply sunscreen. 

I did that once. I had a nasty sunburn all over my back and face. The worst sunburns I ever had. It was painful.

"No one cares Rylie."

"Shut up. I thought I told you not to break the 4th wall."

While Caitlin was out of the water, Barry and Cisco were using the boogie board to ride some of the killer waves to shore. The two were laughing and having a blast, when a rather large wave crashed over them. 

Barry was thrown under water, and his head hit the sand bank and he pushed through the surface. 

Cisco and Barry came up spluttering and coughing.

"You okay man?" Cisco asked.

Barry went to nod, but his head pulsed with pain. He grit his teeth, "I think I hit my head and got whiplash."

"Ouch. We should probably get out then."

"Yeah," Barry agreed.

Cisco was almost at the shore, Barry trailing a little ways behind, a bit colder and a bit slower. 

There was a dip in the sand that caught Barry off guard and he fell. He fell at the same time another wave was crashing over him. Already hurt and fatigued, he found himself unable to get back to the surface before another wave crashed on him, pushing him under harder. 

"You really like to hurt me, don't you."

"Dude, Barry, it's literally a book dedicated to you getting hurt."

"You're probably gonna say I'm also in a rip current next."

"I wasn't, but that's not a bad idea. Thanks. Now quit. Breaking. The. Stinking. 4th. Wall!"

Barry flailed under water, trying to reach the surface. His lungs were screaming for air, and his head hurt. Barry could feel himself being dragged farther away from the shore. 

He fought harder and managed to get a hand above the surface. His head broke through the water and he gasped for air.

"Help!" He yelled.

Another wave dragged him under, making his roughly collide with the sand below him.

'So this is how I'm going to die' he thought. 'Drowning.'

Soon, his lungs couldn't take it anymore and he inhaled, sucking in a bunch of burning salt water.

He gasped, inhaling more water.

And then the corners of his vision started to fade. The last thing he registered was the feeling of a pair of hands around him before he blacked out.

Suddenly he was coughing up water.

"Nice transition."

"Don't give me that attitude. I could've just killed you off. I'm starting to get the hang of that."

"You didn't tell me not to break the 4th wall."

"So far you haven't listened. So why bother?"

"You do realize that you're... writing this?"

"Shut up Allen."

"Oh thank god." Cisco said.

"Honestly! I left for five minutes and Barry nearly dies!" Caitlin yelled.

"S'rry." Barry said. 

His throat burned a lot, and he really wanted some tea with honey.

"I don't drink tea!"

"Shh! Creative liberty. Now stop interrupting."

Caitlin moved her hand in front of Barry in a confusing motion that made Barry's head hurt.

"Damn it Barry," Caitlin said, "You have concussion for sure. And you might get pneumonia. It's high time we head home."

"Couldn't agree more." Cisco said.

Barry tapped his friends' shoulders. They looked at him.

"If Joe asks," he said gruffly, "Everything was fine."

They nodded.

"Not that we're ever coming to the beach again after this." Caitlin said.

"Oh good heavens no."
