CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO:
A BAD SECRET KEEPER

DAISY AND JEMMA STOOD THERE for a minute, staring in the direction in which Sapphire had gone before the two turned to look at each other. All Jemma could feel was pain and heartbreak, knowing that her sister had been forced to go through so much. Jemma couldn't even imagine the torture that she had to endure. But now she had powers and practically a completely different version of herself living inside of her. She was terrified for her sister, not because of what she had become thanks to HYDRA, but because of who she was forced to become because of them.

Daisy placed a hand on Jemma's shoulder, a small frown pulling at her features. Sapphire hadn't lashed out, not since the whole food incident when she had first gotten back. "Jemma, are you alright?" Jemma simply nodded her head, narrowing her eyes for a moment before she cocked her head to the side and quickly spun around and walked away from Daisy and towards her lab equipment. Daisy watched her pick up the vial of blood she had grabbed from Sapphire. "What are you doing?"

"I'm going to run some test, just as I originally planned." Jemma answered her, tugging at her lab coat as she carefully placed the vial of blood down, walking over to her computer and typing a few things before taking a step back and shoving her hands into her lab coat pockets. She narrowed her eyes at the screen before turning her head to look at the blood once more before then turning her attention over to Daisy who looked completely and utterly confused. "I'm going to need some help."

"Jemma," Daisy warned, "you know she doesn't want anyone to know. Dragging Fitz into this will only make her more angrier and worried than she already was. Hell, the only reason I even found out was because I saw her eyes when she had gotten angry. I saw them flash white, and you know me, I'm not one to back away until I get the answers that I'm looking for. The only reason she told you was because you were going to find out when you took a sample of her blood. She didn't trust herself enough to tell us, either that or she didn't trust us in general."

Jemma crossed her arms over her chest, brushing the hair that had fallen out of her ponytail away from her face. She knew that Daisy was right, but she also knew that she wanted to help her older sister in any way that she could. "I'll only tell Fitz." Jemma decided, nodding her head. "I won't even tell him who these tests are for. I will keep him in the dark as much as I possibly can, but if he finds out, I'm going to tell him. There's only so much you can keep from your lab partner when you're supposed to be working together."

Daisy looked at her for a moment, because even though she wanted to argue, she couldn't find it in herself to do so. So instead she just nodded her head. "No one but Fitz can know until she's ready for everyone else to know." She took a deep breath, pushing the hair out of her face. "Which I have a feeling they're all going to find out really soon because we're on a plane filled with trained agents that are supposed to know these things. In fact, I'm surprised they haven't already found out."

"Found out what?" The Scottish accent of Fitz filled the two female's ears, causing both of them to quickly turn to look at him. He stopped, giving them both weird looks as they stared at him. "What?" The two both let out a relieved sigh, ultimately confusing the man even more. He held his tablet close to his chest, looking between the two with narrowed eyes. "Are you two hiding something from me?" He paused before asking a follow up question. "Are you hiding something from the team?" They just looked at him. "No."

     "Fitz."

     "Absolutely not!"

"You don't even know what it is yet." Jemma defended.

"I don't want to know. I am bad at keeping secrets. You know that. So do you! I can't believe you would put this sort of pressure on me. Maybe I should barricade myself in a broom closet and hope everyone forgets about me."

Daisy squinted her eyes. "You're being a little dramatic don't you think?"

"Dramatic?" He sat his tablet down. "Me? You're in cahoots with the most dramatic person in the entirety of S.H.I.E.L.D.!" He turned from Daisy and looked at Jemma. "And you're related to her!"

Jemma rolled her eyes. "We weren't going to tell you anyways."

"Good." He sighed before snapping his head back towards her. "You weren't going to tell me anyways? I thought we didn't keep things from each other."

"You were just complaining about being a bad secret keeper!" Jemma defended and the two started going back and forth like they always did and all Daisy could do was stand there and watch with her eyes switching back and forth between the two whenever the other would start talking. Once the two were finally done arguing with one another, Jemma sighed. "Are you going to help me run the tests or not?"

"Tests? On who?" Jemma glared at him and he nodded. "Right." He huffed before nodding. "Fine. But this feels dirty. This feels really betraying."

Jemma rolled her eyes before turning to look at Daisy as Fitz moved to start setting things up for the tests that they were about to preform. He went to hold a vial of the blood but Jemma was quick to slap his hand away, knowing her sisters name was wrapped around the vial. He glared at her before walking away. "We'll talk later."

Daisy nodded. "Let me know what you find out." Jemma nodded back before Daisy turned on her heel and walked away, going in search for Sapphire to make sure she was okay.
