CHAPTER THIRTY:
UNFAIR

"DON'T TOUCH THAT!" JEMMA YELLED, chasing after Sapphire who quickly grabbed a tool of some kind before running away with it. Sapphire stopped, turning to look at her little sister with a wide smile as she held the tool high above, knowing good and well her sister couldn't reach it. "Sapphire!" Jemma whined, jumping up as she tried to grab it. "Give it back!" Footsteps entered causing Sapphire to look up as May, Fitz, and Daisy all entered, having previously been talking before stopping in order to watch the sibling duo.

"You'll have to reach it first, Jem."

"What are you two? Five?" Fitz scoffed, shaking his head as he walked over to one of the many computers in the lab.

"That is very delicate equipment, Saph. Give it back to me. You know damn well I am too short to reach it." Jemma had stopped jumping and was now pouting, staring longingly at the object in her sisters hand.

"Say the magic word," Sapphire teased.

"Do you even know what that is?"

"Nope."

"Then why do you want it?"

"I don't. I just wanted to bother you. As the older sister, it is my job to get on your nerves as much as possible. I'm not gonna be around forever you know." She smirked slightly, not knowing how the comment had hit Jemma a little harder than expected. Jemma had almost lost her once, the thought of losing her to old age or death in the future was absolutely terrifying.

"You are a pain in the ass." Jemma growled, narrowing her eyes. "Can I please have it back?"

Sapphire lowered her hand. "Since you asked oh so nicely, I guess I can give it back to you this once." She gave it back and Jemma didn't hesitate to snatch it from her grasp. "You know that you love me."

"It's not like I have a choice." Jemma shot back.

"Ouch." Sapphire placed a hand over her heart, feigning mock hurt. "I'm the best damn sister you have. You got lucky in the sibling department." Jemma looked away from her but before she had Sapphire caught the faintest of smiles that she was trying to keep from her lips. Sapphire looked down to the ground as she smiled herself before clearing her throat and walking over to May and Daisy. "Well, my work here is done." She grabbed Daisy's hand. "Shall we?"

Daisy rolled her but nonetheless smiled as the duo walked out of the lab. They walked down the hall before making their way towards their room. They had temporarily left the bus and were now at one of the many S.H.I.E.L.D. bases, which meant that Sapphire and Daisy had their own room which allowed them plenty of privacy. Daisy shook her head as Sapphire unlocked their door. "You're always so mean to her. It almost makes me feel bad for her and then I remember that you're mean to everyone." She looked at Sapphire, giving her a sarcastic smile and watching as Sapphire pushed open the door.

The duo entered, Sapphire placing her keys on the table by the door, walking over to the bed as Daisy shrugged off her coat, laying it on the table beside of Sapphire's keys. "I am not mean to everyone." Sapphire defended. "It's just my personality. Besides, whenever I'm mean to Jemma, it's just me sharing my sisterly love with her, and between you and me, I think that she appreciates it a lot more than she's letting on." Sapphire leaned back on the bed, reaching over and grabbing the remote, turning the television on.

"Well, she lost you for two years. Of course she appreciates it. She went two years without nagging and teasing. And though she got plenty of the arguing from Fitz, I don't think that she was the same when you were gone." Daisy laid down on the bed beside of her. "She's become more alive since you were rescued and brought back. She was always worried and on edge when I first met her because she was always looking for you, hoping to hear news that you were found. And then you were and she became a completely different person."

"I thought about her every day I was in there." Sapphire admitted, turning on her side to look at Daisy. "Jemma was the reason why I kept going. I refused to die in that place because I couldn't let me making a promise I didn't keep to be her last memory of me. I just knew that I had to get out and that I had to get back to my baby sister that meant the entire world to me." Sapphire shook her head slightly. "I don't think I would've made it out alive if it weren't for her."

"Well, I'm glad that you made it out alive." Daisy nodded her head. "Everyone was always talking about you and though there were pictures I could really never match a face to the name. And then you were here and you threw me across the roomโ€•๏ธŽ"

"I still feel bad about that by the way."

"โ€•๏ธŽand I was suddenly excited to get to know who you were." Daisy smiled. "That night when we sat there eating sandwiches and you kissed me, that was the moment I fell in love with you. I had barely known you and yet you already had me wrapped around your finger. It was unfair if you ask me."

"Unfair?" Sapphire scoffed. "Please, you offered me the slightest attention and suddenly I was on my knees begging for more." Sapphire reached over, pushing hair behind Daisy's ear. "When I realized how close you and my sister was, that was when I knew that I could trust you, and that's when I started to let my walls fall down and let you in. Even when I didn't want to, you managed to worm your way through my heart."

"I guess it was pretty unfair on both of our parts, huh?"

"Uh, yeah." Sapphire scoffed in disbelief. "More so yours then mine."

Daisy shrugged. "Fair enough." She leaned over, pressing a kiss to Sapphire's lips. Sapphire kissed her back but before they could even think of going any further a knock fell on the door. A groan of annoyance left Sapphire's lips as she pulled away. She stood up from the bed and made her way to the door, pulling it open to reveal May.

May smirked. "Sorry to interrupt."

Daisy stood up, making her way over to the door. "It's alright."

"No. No, it's not alright." Sapphire argued. "Ten minutes of peace, that's all I ask."

May rolled her eyes. "Fine, ten minutes. But after that, we have a mission to complete." She handed Sapphire the file before walking away. Sapphire sighed and looked down at the file, reading it before pursing her lips.

"Damn." Without another word Sapphire grabbed her keys as Daisy grabbed her jacket and the two went in the direction May had just left in.
