CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN:
BECAUSE OF YOU

JEMMA RAN EVERY TEST THAT she knew of, trying to figure out why this other part of her only came out when she was angry and using her powers. Though it was quickly shown that this other part of Sapphire always made an appearance, just not a full one. When she was angry or upset this other side of her would come out, the pale, blue lipped white hair version of her. But when she was in control, when she was calm, her eyes simply glowed blue and her hands turned paper white.

With that being said, Sapphire was a curious person. She wanted to know if there was a way to control when that other side of her came out without anger controlling her. And so for the next few days she was forced to practice, Daisy was there the entire time, helping her learn control, helping her breathe, trying to convince her that she wasn't going to hurt anyone. For a moment she didn't think that she was going to be able to do it, even if she had control of her powers she didn't think she could control this other half of her. But then something changed.

The three women stood in the training room, Fitz back in the lab studying all of the test results that had come in. Sapphire had her eyes closed, hand held out and she could feel the ice crawl through her body, through her veins and then she felt it. She felt that had hovering in front of her stretched out one, begging for her to reach forwards and grab it, and before she could stop herself she did exactly that, and it happened. Her hair turned snow white, her lips turned blue, her body turned paler than normal. She had done it.

ย  ย ย  Daisy had a proud smile on her face whilst Jemma was jumping up and down with joy. Daisy was the one to speak first. "Sapphire?" Sapphire looked at her before looking down at herself, examining her hands, stretching it forwards as she examined it in the light. She grabbed a lock of her hair, smiling. She could hear her own thoughts, she could feel her body, she was trapped inside her mind whilst this other side of her took over. She was there, she was standing right there in front of her sister and Daisy, controlling her body. She had done it.

ย  ย ย  "It's me." Sapphire whispered, that metallic voice that usually appeared was gone, and all that was left was Sapphire's normal voice. She had a wide smile on her face, letting out a breath of disbelief. "I did it. I can't believe that I actually did it." She turned her head to look at Daisy before looking over at her sister. She then looked towards the target, inhaling as she felt the ice form at her finger tips before she shot out her hand and a blast of snow and ice shot towards the target, knocking it over.

She lowered her hand. She didn't know how to feel. They had spent days trying to accomplish this and no matter how many reassuring words Daisy would whisper in her ear, she had felt discouraged and had wanted to give up, but Daisy wouldn't let her. Sapphire was dangerous, she realized that. She was a dangerous person, but she didn't have to be. She could be dangerous when she wanted to be. She could form icicles in her hands and use them as knives as she fought. She could send her opponent flying by shooting ice at them from her hands. She was dangerous because she was powerful. But she was a dangerous powerful person that had control over what she did, and that's what mattered.

Jemma stared at her sister with awe in her eyes. Jemma, having always been the youngest of the two, had always looked up to her older sister. Ever since they were little she had always looked up to Sapphire. She may have been smarter than her sister when it came to science and mathematics, but her sister was battle smart. She knew what she was doing. She was strong. She was independent. She knew what she wanted in life and Jemma had always admired that about her. And now with this newfound power, Jemma seemed to admire her even more.

Jemma knew that a lot of the time those that had powers, it would take them months if not years to learn to control them. But of course Sapphire had to break that pattern, and Jemma expected nothing less. She wasn't at all surprised to know that her sister had managed control within a few weeks of discovering her powers. But then again, she had help. Her eyes moved over to Daisy who was smiling proudly at her girlfriend and it warmed her heart. Not only had her sister learned how to control her powers, but she had learned to open herself up and not shut everybody out. Jemma made a mental note to thank Daisy for that later.

ย  ย ย  "Alright." Jemma spoke up, causing the two women to look at her. "Now it's time for the real test. Let's see if you can turn back into your regular self." Jemma offered her sister a small smile, watching the doubt start to fall in her eyes. "Hey, you can do this. I believe in you. We believe in you."

ย  ย ย  "You got this." Daisy nodded her head, reaching forwards and squeezing her hand, not minding how cold her touch was.

ย  ย ย  "I got this." Sapphire whispered, nodding to herself before letting go of Daisy's hand. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes and focusing. Slowly she felt the ice start to melt from her veins, she felt that invisible hand begging for her to reach out and just as she had last time, she didn't hesitate to reach for it. Her snow white hair melted into her usual chestnut brown color, her skin went back to it's normal color as did her lips. Warmth flooded her body and she opened her eyes, giving them enough time to watch the icy blue fade into it's regular brown color.

ย  ย ย  She slowly opened her eyes before looking at them. "So, how did I do?"

ย  ย ย  "You're you." Jemma answered. "Not that you weren't you before."

ย  ย ย  Sapphire laughed, "I know what you mean."

ย  ย ย  "Well, I'm going to bring this news to Fitz." Jemma smiled before practically running out of the room.

ย  ย ย  Sapphire turned to Daisy who walked up to her, grabbing her hand. "I'm so proud of you."

ย  ย ย  "I couldn't have done it without you." Sapphire assured.

ย  ย ย  "Oh, pleaseโ€•๏ธŽ"

ย  ย ย  "No, I mean it." Sapphire swallowed thickly. "If it weren't for you, I might still be shooting people across the room with ice in their attempts to wake me up. You helped me become who I used to be. I became something that HYDRA couldn't control, and that's all because of you. So, thank you, Daisy. For everything."

ย  ย ย  Daisy took a step closer. "I'm glad I could help." She placed a hand on Sapphire's cheek, smiling before pulling her into a kiss which Sapphire gladly accepted.
