CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE:
I KNEW IT

SHE WAS NERVOUS TO SAY the least. Sapphire still had the fear nagging at her in the back of her mind, telling her that if she told the others about what happened to her that they would see her different. They would see her as a monster and nothing but an experiment to HYDRA. No matter how many times her sister or Daisy tried to convince her otherwise, there was always that doubt that was still lingering there, making her rethink everything as she walked to the room where they were all waiting for her. Daisy was at her side and even that wasn't enough to comfort her.

Daisy watched the brunette with slight worry before pushing the door open. Sapphire came to a stop in the doorway, her eyes scanning the four people that sat in the room. It consisted of her sister and Fitz for moral support along with Coulson and May. She never realized how many people she didn't trust until now. It was just May and Coulson, she'd known the both of them for almost half of her life. So, why was it so hard to walk into that room, sit down in front of them and tell them what's been going on with her?

Her nerves were eating away at her and she was ready to turn around, walk away, and act like this little gathering never happened. And she almost had had she not turned to meet her sister's eyes, watching the small nod that came from her along with a reassuring smile. It was her sister's approval that allowed Sapphire to take another step into that room. If her sister, the person that had known her since she was born, believed in her and didn't think she was a monster, then Sapphire just had to believe that May and Coulson would have the same mindset.

She could feel Daisy's presence behind her, bringing her another wave of comfort. She took in a deep breath before making her way over to the chair that was sat in front of Coulson and May. The two were patiently waiting for Sapphire to gather herself. She hated that they were so patient with her. She kind of wished one of them would snap at her so that she would just rip the band aid off and get it over with. But of course, they did the exact opposite and waited for her to speak first.

"Alright, I guess there's no turning back now." Sapphire started, placing her hands in her lap. She glanced over towards Daisy who nodded her head reassuringly. Sapphire turned away from her and looked back towards May and Coulson. "There's no easy way to say this, so I guess that I'll just start from the beginning. Starting back to when I was with HYDRA. When I was with them, they did awful things to me. They tortured me, they experimented on me, they were cruel and it was an awful environment. I should have taken May with me on that mission, but I wanted to prove myself and do it alone that was stupid.

"In response, I got myself captured and was tortured for two years. Well, I'm sure that you bot have noticed a difference in me since I've been brought back. Of course there would be a difference, I was tortured, etc. Although true, there is something different about me. Really different. And before either of you say anything I just want to be able to say it all at once and you are allowed to ask questions later, sound good?" She looked at them and they both nodded.

"Well, when I went under all of those experiments, I didn't think anything of it until shit started happening to me. The room got colder every time I walked in it, I almost froze my hands to the sink one time. I then realized that those experiments that HYDRA did on me, they worked. HYDRA had made me into one of their. . . into one of their mutants. And now they're always going to be apart of me whether or not I like it." She paused. "This is what they did to me."

Sapphire took a deep breath before closing her eyes. She straightened her posture, calling the ice to her veins until she felt that invisible hand reaching out for her. She reached for it, connecting her fingers with the invisible ones before she could fill herself begin to transform into the other version of herself. Her usually brown hair turned snow white, her brown eyes turned an icy blue as her lips turned an ocean blue, her skin became ten times paler than it normally was and within seconds she was revealing her other side to them. Hesitantly, she opened her eyes.

Neither of them said anything for a few moments, and that fear crept inside of her again. She tried to steady her voice as she asked, "Well? Aren't you going to say something?" They didn't. Sapphire felt everything inside of her getting ready to shatter. She forced herself to close her eyes as she inhaled deeply, calming her nerves. She allowed her body to transform back to it's original state with her regular hair and eyes color, her skin turning back to it's regular pale color. She opened her eyes again and looked at them. It wasn't until Coulson spoke that she was met with surprise.

"I've got to admit, that was awesome." Phil stated with a smile as he looked at her. "I mean, I can imagine how terrifying that must have been for you, but Simmons your powers are incredible."

"I have to agree with Phil on this one." May nodded her head. "You went through a big trauma and HYDRA may be the reason why you have these newfound powers, but Sapphire, you're not HYDRA. You never could be. You're one of us, even if you are considered a mutant now." May stared at Sapphire for a moment, narrowing her eyes. "You thought we weren't going to accept you."

Sapphire scoffed. "Well, I definitely wasn't expecting that as your reaction." She looked at Coulson. "At the same time your reaction just makes complete and utter sense." She looked at May. "Yours, however. . ."

"You're my best friend, Sapphire." May told her. "Nothing could ever change that. Besides, I already knew."

"I knew it!" Sapphire pointed. "I knew you knew! Why didn't you say anything?"

She shrugged. "I was waiting to see how long it would take before you told us."

Sapphire narrowed her eyes and looked at Coulson. "Did you know?"

"Nope." Coulson answered honestly. He looked at May. "Is that why you've been keeping me away from the first floor since she's gotten back." May shrugged innocently. All Sapphire could do was smile as the weight fell off her shoulders.
