CHAPTER EIGHT:
WHITE-BLUE EYES

ONE MORE DAY. JUST ONE. Sapphire repeated that in her head over and over, and every time she said the phrase, hope would you fuel her. Maybe it was foolish. But, she had to get out of this place. She didn't know how much more she was going to be able to take before she snapped and did something she regretted. The day seemed to drag on, seconds seeming like minutes, minutes seeming like hours, and hours seeming like days. It droned on and on and she felt she was going to go crazy.

She stood there in the room, her eyes focusing on the glass in which she knew the HYDRA agents were on the other side of. She could hear them speaking, telling her to do things that she knew she could do. And maybe it was foolish of her to listen to them, to give them the satisfaction of knowing they had been successful in creating a monster, but she didn't care. The only thing that was on her mind was her little sister and getting back to her. She couldn't go another month without being able to hug her sister, and tell her that she was okay.

She knew that Jemma was a mess. They had both been that way when they didn't know where the other was. They had always been so close, knowing every little detail about one another, things their parents or friends didn't even know about each other. That was the kind of bond they shared, and Sapphire felt it was her fault as to why she had been ripped so harshly from that bond. She had made a promise to Jemma before leaving. A promise that she wished so desperately that she could have kept. And every time she replayed the words of her sister claiming she could be gone for months at a time, was something she wished she had believed.

Sapphire wished she would have accepted back up, accepted Maria Hill in joining her on this trip to get something that HYDRA wasn't supposed to have. But, she had the guilty pleasure of going alone on missions. And she wished that she didn't. She wouldn't have been in all of this, had she simply just accepted and listened to the worries of her younger sister. She was snapped from her thoughts when the HYDRA agents voice broke through the glass and into her ears. She moved her eyes up to look at them, narrowing her eyes and cocking her head slightly.

"Do something, or we'll make you." The agent spoke.

"Make me, then." Sapphire snapped back, the confidence from when she had first arrived flowing through her veins. And they did. The room suddenly became hot. So incredibly hot she was sure that blisters would form on her skin. But then she felt it. Her veins froze over, sending a wave of cold through her body. Her eyes glowed a white-blue and she cocked her head slightly, a smirk forming on her face.

"Hello again." She spoke, though it wasn't Sapphire who spoke. Her voice sounded robotic almost, and she was ready for a fight. Sapphire was watching behind the glowing eyes, utterly confused as to what it was that those agents had truly done to her.

"Maria would be here if she could, you know that." Melinda May spoke as she looked at Phil Coulson. He nodded his head. "Look, I know where she is. Bobbi can come in with me, and a few other agents, Daisy can hack into the security, cause a distraction."

"What about Simmons?" Phil quizzed. May looked at him, shaking her head.

"She nor Fitz can know we found her. Not until we know she's okay." May told the man. "I'm only doing this because I owe her my life."

"And she's your friend. But, we don't have to talk about that part." Phil told her, earning narrowed eyes from the woman.

"Just keep them out of it, got it?" May snapped. "I'll get Daisy and Maria. We have to do this tonight." With that, the woman turned on her heel and walked out of the office. She quickly found Bobbi and Daisy, filling them in on the plan.

"Simmons has a sister?" Daisy quizzed with raised eyebrows.

"Where have you been?" Bobbi responded, glancing at the hacker. She shrugged her shoulders before turning back towards May.

"This needs to happen tonight. And whatever you do, don't tell FitzSimmons." The two both nodded their heads before watching May walk away. The woman pulled out her phone, calling the number Maria had given her. She called the woman and waited for her to pick up.

"May." Maria greeted.

"We're doing it tonight." May told the woman.

"I'll make sure Sage gets the message."

"Good." May spoke before hanging up the phone. They were going to rescue Sapphire, and they were going to destroy the HYDRA base in the process. Melinda was going to get her friend back, and she didn't care what it was going to take.
