Rumors Spreading Round

October 1, 2013

The rest of the Royal Albert Hall shows went as planned. Nothing else happened between Dougie and I. He didn't even speak to me about it. It was as if it never happened. I was upset. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I was expecting Dougie to propose or anything, but it would have been nice to speak. The boys had been so busy with press for their book (yes, that was actually a thing. They wrote a book.) and writing for the sixth album, that I'd had no time to talk to anyone about what had happened between Dougie and I.

And I knew just who I needed to talk to.

On my way into the studio this morning, I saw her walking out.

"Gi?" I ask, confused. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh! Lilly!" She smiles. "Just dropping Tom off. We carpooled."

"Oh okay." I say. There's a pause.

"I've been wanting to talk to you." We both say at the same time, and then we laugh slightly.

"You go first." I say, and she doesn't argue, which I'm a bit upset about. I'm just anxious to speak to her.

"I kind of have something important to tell you." She says, looking at the floor. "Well actually Tom wanted to tell you, but I won the coin toss."

"I feel so loved." I laugh, but she continues looking down nervously. "Important like...I found a really good new cake recipe or important like our lives will never be the same again?"

"Like our lives will never be the same again." She says, and suddenly it's like I've hit a brick wall.

"Are Tom and you getting a divorce?" I blurt out, worried.

"What?" Gi laughs. "No!"

"Oh good." I say, letting out a sigh of relief. "Well you guys are already married so...what are you? Pregnant?" I joke, laughing.

Gi looks up at me. She isn't laugh.

"OH MY GOD!" I exclaim, and she smiles, shushing me, because we are in a recording studio. "Oh my God!" I whisper yell, pulling her into a hug. "How much?"

"How much?" She asks confused.

"Yeah like..." I shrug and motion towards her stomach. She narrows her eyes at me.

"Are you trying to ask me 'how much' pregnant I am?" She says. I scoff.

Gi I litterally know nothing about this stuff." I say.

"Nothing?" She asks, raising a brow. "When two people love each other-"

"Ew." I interrupt her. "Oh go on! Answer the question!" I can't hide my excitement.

"Four months." She smiles.

"Do you know what it is?" I ask.

"A human baby." She laughs at her own joke. I roll my eyes.

"Come on then." I say.

"No. They said we could find out as early as next week, but I'm not sure we will." She says. "That's actually why I'm here. Tom and I just told the boys together. He wanted to tell you but I wanted to be able to tell all the girls and we didn't want to tell anyone before the Royal Albert Hall shows, and now it's getting late so we're rushing to tell everyone before I start to show."

"Oh, congrats!" I say, hugging her tightly. "I'm excited."

It dawned on me then, that Tom acting as if he were coming into his family-man roll made sense. He wasn't coming into the roll of a husband, but a father.

"Well I should probably get into the studio, but I'll call you, okay? And call me if you need anything. I can help with anything."

"Thanks Lilly." She smiles, and we turn away from each other, walking our separate ways. "Oh wait!" Gi calls, and I turn to look at her. "What was it you wanted to tell me?"

"I-"

Anything having to do with Dougie and I was irrelevant now. Gi and Tom were having a baby. I felt silly even thinking to bring it up.

"I forget." I smile. She nods, leaving and I walk down the hall.

When I go to push the studio doors open, I'm ready to immediately congratulate Tom, but I can't because something else grabs my attention first.

There aren't four boys in the studio. There are six.

They are all sitting in a circle with their instruments. Tom, Harry, Danny, Dougie, Matt and James.

I pause, and they look at me, silently.

"We'll talk about you having a baby in a second." I say, pointing at Tom. "What's going on?"

"Lilly." Danny smiles. "Welcome to McBusted's first rehearsal."

"What?" I ask.

"We're gonna do it." James says, raising his eyebrows like he was expecting to be smacked. "We're gonna become a band." There's another pause. Like the one Gi and I just shared.

"Like...officially?"
