gwen was pushing rina through the e.r entrance with burke. walter and joe close behind them.

"ready? one, two, three." burke says as they carry rina on a gurney. "get me a stat ekg and portable chest."

"she's 34 weeks pregnant with twins." gwen informs him. "why don't you go to the waiting room?" she asks walter and joe.

"we're not leaving her." walter insisted.

aa gwen looked behind the two she saw adele in the e.r. so she walked over to her.

"what happened?" she asks richard who stood next to adele.

"i don't know. i found her unconscious." richard tells her. "she's lost blood. a lot of blood. i didn't know she was in the hospital. what was she doing?"

"you don't think it could be uterine cancer, do you? it runs in the family." richard informs gwen still in adele's room.

"no. it's not." gwen dismisses. "she was in earlier. she was in a fender-bender." confesses to him.

"my wife came into my hospital and you neglected to tell me?" richard asks.

"doctor/patient confidentiality."

"we're still married." he reminded her. "she's unconscious. there are medical decisions to be made. legally, i have the right to know. i have a right..."

"she might be having a miscarriage." she finally tells him. "she's pregnant."

"how's rina?" gwen asks burke in the e.r.

"i need to get a ct angio, but i'm pretty sure it's a tear in her aorta. her heart is about to blow." he explaines to her.

"most dissecting aortas burst within 48 hours." gwen says.

"wich means we have less than 12 hours to fix it before she's dead." burke says.

"so you need me to get the babies out."

"so i can save her life." burke agrees.

"what happened?" adele asks as gwen and richard where in her room again.

"you've been unconscious for a while." gwen explaines to her.

"what about...?" adele whispers to gwen.

"he knows." gwen says nodding to richard. "adele, you lost a lot of blood. i'm going to try to find a heartbeat. but you should prepare yourself." gwen then moved the wand around her stomach. "heartbeat."

"oh god." richard sighs relieved.

"it's a little slower than i'd like, but once we tank you with liquids and a transfusion, it might get stronger." gwen explaines. "i got to rush off to surgery. i'll be back with you the minute i'm done."

"thank you." adele said.

gwen nodded and left the room.

"i don't understand." gwen says to richard in his office.

"it's not you." he dismisses her.

"i understand that part. what i don't understand is why?" she asks. "i need this job, richard. i need it more than the others."

"gwendolyn."

"no. i need a reason to stay here. i need a reason to get up in the morning. i need to wake up and not caring that it's raining or that i'm 29 and alone. i need the job richard." she begs him.

"that's why." he tells her. "if you need a job to give you a life, you either need a new job or a new life."

"how's she doing?" gwen asks burke as she did an c-section on rina.

"bp's 92 over 56." he replies.

"how's jane doe and her husband?" gwen asks karev.

ava's husband had suddenly showed after ava got her memories back.

"he cried like a baby, she looked bored." he replies.

"don't go overboard with compassion." gwen tells her intern.

"she's not sure she wants to stay with him. it's complicated." alex says.

"it's not actually complicated." izzie, who also assistet, chimed in. "they're married, she took a vow. you don't mess with vows. married is married. game over. so freaking over." everyone looked at her confused. "just an opinion." she shrugged then.

suddenly the monitors beeping rapidly.

"pressure's dropped to 60. she's bradying down! how much longer?" burke asks her.

"i just need two minutes to get these babies out." gwen informs him.

"make it one. she's flatlined. stevens, start compression." burke instructs.

"i got the first one out. clamp." gwen says.

"come on, come on." burke pushes her.

"second baby's out. ok, go." gwen announces.

"bulky, ten-blade." burke says to the scrub nurse.

after rina's surgery gwen walked back to adele to find her cramping in pain.

"what's going on?" gwen immediatly asks.

"started cramping and then she got diaphoretic." richard informs her.

"alert ob to a possible d&c due to an incomplete miscarriage." gwen orders. "adele, you could have a placental abruption due to the trauma. we've got to get you to an o.r now. let's move, people!"

after adele's surgery gwen went to richard to tell him what happened.

"she went into early dic. i gave her blood, platelets, ffp. pregnancy at 52 is dangerous. i tried everything. i couldn't save..." but she couldn't finish because richard was running to look after adele.

gwen was standing at the nurses station filling some charts when mark stood next to her.

"you're not going to the wedding?" mark asks her.

"no. i never really been the type of girl who likes weddings." she says chuckling.

he look at her from the side.

"did you thought about leaving seattle?" he asks.

"to be honest, yeah. i thought about it. but then something happened wich changed my mind about leaving seattle. leaving you."

"and why did you changed your mind?" he asks as she closed her chart to give it to a nurse.

"one of my old colleagues, pete, kissed me while i was there. and i know that isn't right that i enjoyed that kiss and i felt guilty the whole time after the kiss. and that's when i realised that i care about you. i don't want to kiss any other men than you. and i know i said i just want to be friends yesterday but that doesn't mean that i don't love and care about you."

"so that means you kissed someone and felt guilty because you love me." he smirked.

"yeah."

"but we're not a couple?" he asks her confused. "that doesn't make any sence."

"i know. it doesn't make to me sence either." she sigh while running a hand through her hair. "but this how i want this. you and i being friends with benefits."

"it doesn't have to make sence as long as you love me and have sex with me i'm happy." he says as he smiled down at her. "i wouldn't had survive it if you'd leave me." he said.

"i wouldn't had survive it either. do you want to leave this place to go to my place to have some wine and sex?" she asks him.

"you don't have to ask me this twice." he smirked as he took her hand and left.
