one hundred thirteen

a few weeks have passed and everything is slowly back to normal.

i mean, if you think handling a plane crash is normal.

gwen was more and more confident in her body from day to day.

it was hard for the both of them. sometimes gwen had some depressive days and some days she feels awesome.

mark suggest gwen to go to therapy but she didn't want to. and if mark had learned one thing than that you can't push gwen to anything.

it was early in the morning when mark woke up for work.

he looked confused to find the bedside next to him empty.

he heard a noise from the bathroom so he stood up.

"gwen, you okay?" he asks worried.

"i'm fine, really, don't worry, baby. i'll be back in a few minutes." gwen assures him.

"okay, call me if you need help." mark tells her walking back under the blanket.

gwen wipped her mouth flushing the toilet before walking back.

what was wrong with her?

she thought about it long but she wasn't really sure.

but what if?

she didn't think further.

"are you okay?" mark asked once gwen was back in his arms.

"yeah, everthing's fine." gwen assures him.

before she got the chance to go to her patients gwen and mark got paged to the conference room to meet with everybody.

owen stood in front of the big table while everyone sat down.

gwen stood next to mark leaning against his chest.

"some of you may run into arizona robbins today. it's her first day back." owen announces to everyone making them cheering. "so if you see her, just make her feel welcome."

"or maybe... maybe just don't make a big deal at all." callie advises them. "it might be better."

"noted. thank you." owen nods.

when everyone started to stand and leave owen stops them by holding up his hand.

"hold on." he says. "i just want to address one more thing. most of you are aware that a group of our doctors have filed a lawsuit against our hospital. some of you may be wondering what this all means and how it's gonna affect our staff. i'd like to be clear. it doesn't... at all. let's just let the lawyers worry about that. that's their job. our job is to continue to work together and support each other in giving the great standard of care that we have always given. let's not let something like this get in the way of that. thank you."

then everyone was allowed to leave the room.

"i kinda feel bad, you know." gwen confesses to mark as they walked down the hall.

"why?" mark asks confused.

"i mean, this is our hospital, our home. i just... uh i don't know." gwen sighs leaning against the nurse station.

"it's the right thing to do. you almost died. lexie died. derek's hand is damaged. our lives have changed in a pretty bad way. and it's on this hospital. so please don't feel bad." mark says taking her face in his hands.

"you're right. still i feel uncomfortable." gwen sighs as april ran up to them out of breath.

"hey, guys, have you seen jackson?" she asks. "he's not answering my texts."

"why looking for some jackson action?" mark asks smirking earning a slap from gwen. "oh, my god. what did i tell you. thirty years as a nun, she cannot get enough."

gwen slapped him another time.

"so you haven't seen him?" april asks again more annoyed.

"no, but i can page him if you want." gwen suggest.

"no, i'll find him myself." april says brushing through him.

"you want some mark action?" mark leans closer to her ear.

"i have patients." gwen dismisses him. "maybe later."

gwen kisses him goodbye.

gwen stood at a nurses station when callie walked up to her from behind.

"hey, can you do me a favour?" callie asks.

"yeah, what's up?" gwen looked up from her phone.

"it's arizona's first day today and since yang is cover the most of your patients i thought you could help arizona for the day." callie begs.

"of course." gwen nods.

callie smiled looking down at her phone.

"okay. the red eagle has landed." callie blurts making gwen's brows furrow.

"what?" gwen asks confused.

"arizona just got here." callie informs her. "i had an intern wait at the entrance and then text me when they saw her. i also put the weirdo over there on weelchair duty." callie points at heather brooks who stood further behind gwen around a corner. "now listen, she'll be tired and in pain but she won't ask for it unless she sees it's close by. just don't shove it in her face. she hates that."

"you know what i hate? that you won't stop talking." gwen says.

"well, then you two will get along just fine today." she sighs as she spotted arizona walking up to them. "oh. red eagle." making gwen look behind her. "don't... don't look up. don't look up."

"hi." arizona greets them standing next to gwen.

"arizona." gwen greets back smiling.

"oh, hey, you're here." callie states. "well, i gotta run. derek's all, fix my hand. no rest till i'm healed."

then callie walked away.

"where's alex?" arizona asks gwen.

"oh, i thought since cristina is taking over most of my cases, i could help you today in peds, like old times." gwen smiles at her ex.

"oh, great." arizona said.

"dr.robbins, dr.kepner needs some extra hands on a horse trampling, 14-year-old." a nurse informs them.

"all right, tell'em we're on our way." gwen instructs the nurse.

gwen was about to go but then decided to wait for arizona.

"i'll catch up with you." arizona assures her.

"no, i can wait." gwen shoke her head.

"no, a kid got trampled by a horse, gwenny. go." arizona reminds her.

gwen nodded before walking away.

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

gwen arrived in the e.r to meet up with kepner.

"dr.shepherd? what are you doing here?" kepner asks confused.

"i'm helping arizona in peds today." gwen explains to  her. "where do you need me?"

"can you take over the ultrasound?" april asks. "he's got abdominal tenderness, and i need to get control of this bleeding. i think he may have lacerated his femoral vein."

gwen nodded as she did the ultrasound.

"my sneakers." the young boy, ethan, groaned.

"what's that?" gwen furrows her brows.

"don't lose my sneakers. they're 200 bucks." ethan groans in pain.

"that's why his leg slipped through the stirrup. you have to wear a shoe with a heel when you ride a horse." april reminds the young boy.

"kid spends 200 bucks on sneakers, he's obviously not the king of awesome choices." gwen says looking at the image of the ultrasound. "all right, there's possible blood on the upper left quadrant."

"great. let's get him up to ct." april orders.

"hold on. wait for robbins." gwen tries to stop her.

"are you kidding me?" april asks with raised brows.

"she's on her way." gwen assures.

"he just got dragged 20 yards by a horse." april reminds him making the gurney ready for transport.

"he's totally stable. look, it's her first day back." gwen protests.

"he did a stupid thing. i'm not gonna let it ruin his life." april snaps. "let's move this gurney right now!"

gwen sighs as she followed the gurney.

only seconds later arizona arrived sighing when she found nobody there anymore.

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

gwen was walking down the hall to get to the scrub room to find kepner standing there.

"jackson." april says before realizing it's gwen. "sorry. i thought you were..."

"you two having a sex date?" gwen asks.

"we're not having a sex date. not everything is about sex." april says more annoyed.

"you okay?" gwen asks sensing that something is bothering the redhead.

"yes. no. oh, god." aprils voice broke.

"april?"

"i had a plan. i was gonna be married and have a husband. our wedding would have the mints. we'd be mint to be committed. i was gonna tell my husband that i was pregnant by giving him a t-shirt that said world's greatest dad. now look at me." april sobs.

"you're pregnant?" gwen asks.

"i think so." april nods. "well, i don't know."

"plans never work out the way you think they're going to, especially with babies. look at me. you try and try to get pregnant, and you can't. and then a baby comes when you least expect it, probably because you didn't plan it. plans don't mean anything. when i got pregnant it was totally unexpected and i was scared for a moment. but now? it's the best thing that happened to me. jackson is great, i can assure you that. you will work it out. and if you have questions or if you're scared, just come to me. i'll be here if you need someone." gwen smiles as jackson walks up to them.

"hey." he greets them.

"i was just leaving." gwen says. "see you in surgery."

gwen walked down the hall to be meet with mark.

"i haven't seen you all day." mark states looking up from his phone.

"yeah, i was paged to the e.r. i'm helping arizona in peds today." gwen informs him.

"you got some time?" he asks her. "i was about to search for a on call room.

"i have a surgery in a few minutes." gwen dismisses him.

"i feel like i'm gonna explode." mark complains.

"you're terrible." gwen chuckles kissing him. "what are you doing today?"

"i'm helping callie finding a way to safe derek's nerves. it's frustrating." mark sighs.

"you got this. you are more than an amazing surgeon." gwen reminds him.

"i love you." mark smiles.

"love you too."

then gwen walked away to her surgery.

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

"ugh!" april groans next to gwen and arizona in the o.r.

"dr.kepner?" arizona asks looking at her.

"sorry, this pds suture isn't holding, and i can't get hemostasis." april explains. "horseback riding is supposed to be fun, but even if you wear the right shoes and a helmet and everything, protection doesn't always work. you know what? what's the point? you might as well just ride bareback."

"gwen, can you take this over for a second?" arizona asks her.

"yeah, sure." gwen nods taking arizona's surgical tools as the blond stepped back from the table.

gwen nodded for brooks to slowly move over the wheelchair without arizona really noticing it.

but unfortunately arizona did notice it.

"you, whatever your name is, can you stop stalking me with chairs?" arizona asks furious. "i'm stretching, which is normal. we all need to stretch sometimes. so can you just get that thing away from me?"

brooks looked over to gwen who nodded with her head as arizona stepped back to the table.

"pickups." she instructs.

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

when the surgery was finished the boy got transported to his room.

"all right, guys. okay, let's make sure that we check pulses every two hours." arizona tells the doctors. "i'm gonna talk to the parents."

arizona pushed her hands up from the gurney when she fell down the floor causing the whole staff to gasp.

"everybody out." gwen orders them but nobody moved. "i said get out."

after everyone was gone gwen crouched down to arizona.

"you okay? arizona, are you hurt? did you hit your head?" gwen asks worried.

"i was... i was so proud of myself." arizona said. "for getting through today and the surgery, like nothing was different, and i'm such a big shoot that i went and put all my weight on my left foot." arizona suddenly laughs. "i don't have a left foot. and now i'm on my ass. and you should... you should see the look on your face." both woman started laughing. "are you gonna... are you gonna help me up?"

"yeah. come on." gwen nods helping her up.

then the two walked outside together.

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

gwen sat home waiting for mark to come home as well.

she got something to tell him.

and she didn't know how he will react.

hailey sat on the floor playing and sucking on a toy while gwen watched her.

"hey, hailey, you wanna come to mommy?" gwen asks her daughter who looked up smiling when she recognized her mother's face.

hailey tried to step up but fell down again.

she looked shocked at her mother.

"should mommy help you?" gwen asks walking over to her.

hailey stretched out both of her hands waiting for her mother to pick her up.

the moment she did mark walked into through the front door.

"there are my most favourite two girls." mark smiles at them putting his jacket down.

"hey. i just wanted to put her down." gwen informs him walking towards him.

"but i want some father-daughter time first." mark says taking hailey playing with her few blond curls. "you're pretty just like your mommy."

mark walked over to the kitchen opening the fridge with one hand to take out a water bottle.

"how was your surgery?" mark asks sitting hailey down on the floor next to her toys again.

"great." gwen replied. "can you take a look at the shirt that i bought hailey? it's in the bag on the counter."

"gwen, guys don't get all goo-goo over baby clothes." mark chuckles walking back to the open kitchen.

"just look." gwen repeats.

mark took the shirt out looking at it. he then turned it around staring at gwen with wide eyes.

best big sister on earth.

"it's only three weeks so i shouldn't even be telling you. i mean, i still have a hostile uterus, and terrible things are constantly happening to us, we lost two babies, which is why i haven't told anyone. i haven't even told callie. so if you tell anyone, i swear, i will kick you out of this house that you brought us." gwen rambled.

"don't worry." mark smiles walking over to her. "and good things happen to us. we're gonna have another baby."

"we're having another baby." gwen slightly sobs as mark kisses her.
