Personality: Guanyu would be considered the coldest of his brothers, never opening up to anyone and rarely cries. Many see him as being too quiet, but most of the time, he thinks before he speaks and is very straightforward. He's not a very touchy person, his insecurity of being the shortest in his family, fueling his attitude. He does struggle with depression and self doubt, only opening up about it when comfortable. Guanyu does have a bit of a resting bitch face and isn't one for overtop reactions. He does take care of the people he cares about before himself, usually giving advice. He does have a gummy smile and a dry sense of humor, and once comfortable he acts like a kid.

Background: Huang Guanyu was born in Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, China. He doesn't remember much of his life before being sent to his first foster home. When he was 7, he was adopted by a seemingly lovely Korean couple, who gave him the name Gunwoo and brought him to live in Korea. Everything went well at first and he was truthfully happy when with his 1st family. However, after he turned 10, his parents divorced and since neither could come to an agreement over custody, Guanyu was put up for adoption again.

Arriving at the foster home, he did nothing more but go to his shared room and go to sleep. He was angry with his parents; why did they bother adopting him if they didn't want to keep him. Guanyu felt like he wasted his time getting close with them and vowed to not let his feelings get played with again, sticking to it for the next 5 years.

During those seven years, he was adopted by the Kim family at 13 and to this day, he doesn't know what he did to get Hwayoung and Jinwoong to want to adopt him but at the time he could have cared less if he were adopted or not.

Moving in, he had the same practice as with the foster home; come home, take off his shoes, and go to his room. Guanyu's first four years with the family passed in silence, none other than Hwayoung knowing what his voice sounded like. His other "brothers" tried to get to know him but he constantly shut them down or outright ignored them.

He kept this up until the youngest Kim moved in.

The rest of the family was shocked when Hwayoung found Guanyu showing Toshiro around his makeshift studio in his room; Guanyu never let into his room so this was Of everyone in the household, he understood Toshiro differently; as both of them are the only non-Koreans, they were the only ones who knew what it was like to be removed from their home countries to be raised elsewhere.

By the time Toshiro moved into the Kim household, they had moved to the countryside of Busan, Hwayoung and Jinwoong wanting to give the growing alphas more room. When Guanyu was 17, the Kim family was met with the unfortunate news that the hospital that Jinwoong had worked at would be shutting down, leaving the Hwayoung as their sole provider. As she was a well known pianist, money would not be a problem for the family, however to be able to continue with their being as comfortable as it was, the boys started a group with their schoolmate Kim Dohwong, calling themselves Un.it6. They didn't make much as a group but it was something they could say they did without the help of their parents. Un.it6 continued for 2 years until Jinwoong was able to start working again. With their father now working, they disbanded Un.it6 and focused on school, Guanyu obtaining his music degree online. During his time in school, he spent most of his time in his studio, making music to sell to smaller labels. Originally, he had no interest in becoming an idol, seeing his brothers' excitement over Nebula Records flyer, he couldn't help but agree to audition.
