Personality: Hyunwoo is a really relaxed person that tries to hide his feelings despite unintentionally wearing them on his sleeve more often than he would like. He can be a bit out there at times, often too busy enjoying life to care what anyone really thinks about him. Since he was young, he had always been a shy person but is actively trying to overcome it to be able to achieve his goals.

Background: Hyunwoo was born in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea as the youngest to Choi Donghyun and YeEun. He was a very shy child, often clinging to his mother when they were together. Growing up, they often traveled around the country, watching his mother perform in various concert halls.

Inspired by his mom, Hyunwoo followed in her steps, starting singing lessons at the age of 5. By the time he was 12, he decided to audition for SM Entertainment after being scouted while out with his parents.

Training with SM was completely different from his singing lessons. As Hyunwoo never had to dance a day in his life before, his dancing was harshly criticized. He would spend long nights over his first year learning just the basics to avoid being scolded for his poor dancing skills.

When trainers heard him sing, they could only praise him, gaining attention among the company.

In 2012, he had been training for 5 years at that point and improved his dancing significantly. He was chosen as a member of EXO when SM originally decided that they were going to be 13 members, but was later cut when they later chose to have the group be 12 members.

When news of NCT started going around, he was one of the first members selected for the team but was kept from debuting with NCT U because the producers thought he didn't fit either song.

By 2017, he had hadn't qualified for NCT 127 and was too old for NCT Dream, and was still stuck in SM's basement. Hyunwoo had grown tired of training so long, wanting another chance to debut soon. Alongside Anthony, he asked to participate in MixNine under Esteem.

Hyunwoo would be the first to say that luck was finally on his side when he joined MixNine, as he was able to grab attention right away, with his first official rank being in 8th.

Though his screentime was constantly cut, which his rank suffered from, he was constantly praised for his vocal skills, which kept him in the top 20. By the end of the show, he was able to make the final group, placing in 8th.

Hyunwoo was contracted by YG for the team's debut not long after the finale of the show but their debut was ultimately canceled; YG's excuse was that none of the companies could agree on their contract length but truthfully, he didn't want to deal with another boy group.

Hyunwoo returned to SM with the hopes of his success being repaid but he was sent back to the basement to continue practicing.

By early 2019, his contract with SM was over he decided to not continue training with the label and enlist in the military early in mid-2019.

Now that he was out of the military, he wasn't sure what his next steps were going to be; he considered returning to teach middle school vocals since he used to it but hated that so many years went to waste.

By luck, Hyunwoo was contacted by Lay not long after he returned home, asking him to audition for Nebula.
