Chapter 39

Later at the Police Precinct...
The new and installed searchlight Bat-signal was now placed on top of the precinct's rooftop shining up the large bat emblem at the sky whenever they needed to call Batman/Johnny.

Gordon was at the rooftop talking to his daughter over the phone while hoping that Batman/Johnny would come. After a few minutes, Gordon was startled when he turns around and saw Batman/Johnny was already on the roof with him unexpectedly.

"Sorry I gotta go. I'll see you later tonight, Barbara." Gordon said as he ended his call with his daughter and puts his phone back on his pocket. "I was about to think you weren't gonna show up."

"Captain, that light... it has a bat on it." Batman/Johnny said while looking at the new searchlight while shining up the bat symbol at the sky.

"You give me a number to call, I'll rethink my methods." Gordon said jokingly but he looked at Batman/Johnny like he was in no mood for jokes. "I thought putting the light on to this thing would call you when needed, especially on nights like this. What do you think?"

"You know what, I like it." Batman/Johnny said smirking at his new Bat-signal.

"I also got a call from Detective Bullock earlier. He said he thinks that the Batman apprehended Jay Wilde's killer tonight." Gordon said while turning off the Bat-signal.

"His name is Robert Hanes. He was a former security guard at the playing card company that Wilde owned. After the break in, he was fired then started to join up with Penguin and blackmail Wilde. I'm assume he's already in police custody?" Batman/Johnny asked.

"Yeah. He's already behind bars as we speak thanks to you. The only problem I have left is the Joker." Gordon said.

"What about the Joker? He didn't escape, did he?" Batman/Johnny asked furiously thinking that the Joker would cause trouble again.

"No, it's not like that. His prints aren't in any database, so we'll probably never know who he really is." Gordon replied.

"I guess we'll have to work on that someday." Batman/Johnny said.

"I have to be honest with you, the moment I first heard about you, I thought you might be a crazy lunatic in a halloween costume that we couldn't stop, but boy was I wrong. After the night you took down the Joker, you saved a lot of innocent lives. Including my wife and daughter. Thank you." Gordon said with gratitude towards Batman/Johnny.

"Protecting the innocent lives of humans and monsters from criminals is my top priority. It's what I do, Captain." Batman/Johnny stated.

"So doing it by the book, huh? Glad that we're on the same page, Batman." Gordon said while Batman/Johnny nodded. "This isn't just why I called you. I called you here tonight because I think it's time we take our partnership to the next level.

"The next level?" Batman/Johnny wondered.

"One thing you need to know: if you're going to continue this vigilante thing, you're going to make a lot of enemies. Firefly, Penguin, Freeze, and the Joker are only the beginning. Besides the existence of Count Dracula and the other monsters, you became one of the highest names in this place. Deep down, I know more of these 'super villains' are gonna wanna have to put you on their hit list." Gordon explained.

"If the other criminals out there wants a piece of me, then so be it. I'll be ready for them... and they're going to wish they should've stayed home. I won't let criminal scums terrorize our streets." Batman/Johnny said bravely.

"I know we could count on you, Batman." Gordon felt his phone vibrated and picked it up. "Oh... I gotta take this call. My wife is probably wondering where I am now... See you around, Batman. Don't be a stranger."

"See you around, Captain." Batman/Johnny said as Gordon went back inside the precinct.

After his conversation with Gordon, Batman/Johnny was about to grapple off the rooftop until he heard whispers and familiar voices near him. Behind a nearby wall were Mavis, Wendy, Sophie, and Charlotte hiding while taking a closer look at Batman/Johnny.

"I can't believe it's really him." Wendy whispered excitedly but almost like shouting.

"Wendy, be quiet! He might hear us!" Charlotte whispered while shushing Wendy.

"Girls, come on! Can we get down now? I don't want to get in trouble at my bachelorette party." Mavis said not wanting to get in trouble until it was too late.

"Expecting to find someone?" Batman/Johnny said sneaking behind Mavis, Wendy, Sophie, and Charlotte.

"BATMAN!" The girls shouted and startled as they quickly turned around making face to face with Batman/Johnny, who looked really angry.

Batman/Johnny was furious at Wendy, Sophie, and Charlotte on following him and the possibility of getting Mavis and themselves into a big trouble.

"What are girls doing up here? Especially in this time of night!" Batman demanded with his voice changer/modulator while crossing his arms giving them the bat-glare, except for Mavis.

"Nothing! We were just hanging around." Wendy explained nervously while the girls nodded their heads and trying to smile nervously as well.

"On the police precinct's rooftop?" Batman/Johnny interjected while Wendy, Sophie, and Charlotte gulped nervously not know how to respond. Mavis stepped forward in front of her friends.

"We are terribly sorry, Batman. It's just that we saw a bat symbol up in the sky and my friends figured we could find you, which was a bad idea." Mavis calmly explained to Batman/Johnny while she turns her back and glared at Wendy, Sophie, and Charlotte.

When Batman/Johnny saw the purple streak on Mavis' hair, he was speechless. Johnny had never seen Mavis looking so beautiful in her life. The closest he could remember was during her 118th birthday party. He wanted to kiss her so bad but he knew it will have to wait.

"Uh... Batman? Did you hear what we've just said?" Sophie asked nervously. Batman/Johnny lightly shook his head snapping himself back to reality.

"What did you overhear?" Batman/Johnny asked.

"We didn't hear anything. We just got here. Promise." Mavis stated. Batman/Johnny just made a simple nod.

"Nice to see you again, Batman. We've already met before, remember? It was the time when Joker..." Wendy tried to explain but Batman/Johnny cut her off.

"I know, Wendy. I've already met you, Mavis, and your other friends at the carnival before." Batman said a little annoyed remembering the Joker's carnival.

"Hi, Batman! It's so cool to finally meet you in person!" Both Sophie and Charlotte squealed fangirling at Batman/Johnny, who sighed in annoyance and shaking his head in disapproval.

"Don't you girls have somewhere else to be? Such as Mavis' bachelorette party?" Batman/Johnny said while the girls gasped in surprise.

"How did you know about that?" Mavis asked surprisingly.

"I can hear you whispering from here." Batman/Johnny answered.

"Did you also know that Mavis has a crush on you?" Wendy added laughing a little.

"Wendy, come on! That's not true!" Mavis exclaimed in embarrassment while there was a hint of blush on her face.

"Aww. That's so cute!" Both Sophie and Charlotte squealed.

"I suggest you should leave right now. You girls could get into a lot of trouble if you stay here long enough with me. I don't want my enemies targeting innocent lives just to get my attention." Batman/Johnny warned.

"I told you!" Mavis sternly said glaring at her friends.

"Right, of course. We'll let you get back to beating up the bad guys and keeping us safe." Sophie said proudly.

"Wait, Batman! One last thing!" Wendy shouted reaching for Batman/Johnny's attention.

"What?" Batman/Johnny asked.

"Pose for a smell-fie!" Wendy called out while grabbing her camera.

"Smell-fie?" Batman/Johnny said raising an eyebrow confusingly.

Wendy, Sophie, and Charlotte grabbed Mavis by the arm unexpectedly and went closer to Batman/Johnny. With Wendy in front and holding the camera, she takes a picture as a smell and a quick glimpse of flashlight comes out of the device. Batman/Johnny closed and rubbed his eyes looking away from the camera. The camera prints out a photo of Wendy, Sophie, Charlotte, Batman/Johnny, and Mavis, who was invisable in the photo due to not allowed to see her reflection

"This is so cool! Hank, Pedro, and Johnny are going to be jealous when we show this to them!" Wendy, Sophie, and Charlotte kept looking the photograph until they heard someone clearing their throat.

They turned around and saw an angry Mavis and Batman/Johnny glaring at them. The girls had a terrified and troubled look on their faces.

"Uh... Oops. Sorry." Charlotte said shyly.

"Don't you ever follow me again, got it?" Batman/Johnny said sternly while clenching his teeth.

"Yes, Batman." Sophie quickly responded out of fear.

"Loud and clear." Wendy said while giving a thumbs up and smiling nervously.

The girls walked from Batman/Johnny except for Mavis, who wanted to apologize about tonight.

"I'm really sorry about my friends' behavior, Batman." Mavis said.

"It's fine. Apology accepted. Just don't let it happen again. I'm not into the celebrity stuff." Batman/Johnny explained making Mavis feel a little better now. "Congratulations on the wedding by the way."

"Oh... thank you. Johnny and I are getting married in two weeks." Mavis said laughing a little.

"Glad to hear that." Batman/Johnny said giving a friendly smile.

Before Batman/Johnny jump off at the edge of the building, He heard Mavis' voice reaching out for him.

"Batman... wait!" Mavis called out as Batman/Johnny turns around. "Thank you... for keeping us safe, I mean." Mavis softly said while Batman/Johnny nodded and jumped off the building.

Mavis cheeked on her Wendy, Sophie, and Charlotte who had miserable looks on their faces.

"We're really sorry, Mavis. I can't believe we ruined your bachelorette Party." Sophie replied sadly while Mavis sighed calming herself down.

"Oh, girls. Come on. Don't be like that. You didn't ruined my bachelorette party." Mavis reassured smiling at her friends.

"Really?" Wendy asked.

"Of course! The important thing is that I get to spend the whole night with you all." Mavis said while hugging her friends.

"Thanks, Mavis! You're the best!" Charlotte said happily as they all hugged Mavis back.

"Can you girls do me a favor?" Mavis suggested.

"Sure. Anything!" Wendy exclaimed.

"Don't tell my dad any of this happened. I don't want to get in trouble." Mavis begged while the girls shared a few giggles.

"Of course, Mavis! Your secret is safe with us!" Wendy promised.
