Chapter 48 (The Last One)

At the Police Precinct's Rooftop....
The Bat-signal was shining up the bat symbol at the sky while Captain Gordon was lighting up his cigar and putting it on his mouth while waiting for The Dark Knight.

"How long have you been standing there?" Captain Gordon said without turning his back around.

"Long enough." Batman/Johnny answered coming out from the shadows behind Gordon.

"So is showing up and vanishing out of no where going to be your thing now? I'm still not used to it." Gordon sighed as he turned off the bat-signal.

"Bring me up to speed, Jim. What have you got for me?" Batman/Johnny asked with his voice modulator/changer on.

"Right, of course. One of my police officers just got this early tonight. We've been chasing this guy for awhile now." Gordon explained as he threw away his cigar. "There were confirmed sightings of him leaving these weird graffitis around town, but he never left this sort of thing." Gordon handed Batman/Johnny an envelope.

"What is this?" Batman/Johnny asked.

"I don't know. Whatever it is, he left this one just for you." Gordon said as Batman/Johnny grabbed the envelope.

Once the envelope rested on his hands, Batman/Johnny examined the object that says 'To THe BaTMaN.' and carefully opened the envelope to figure out what's inside it. He wasn't that much surprise because all it had in it was a black folder, marking a green question mark at the center. Batman/Johnny opened up the folder only to contain words that were highlighted in green. It was a riddle.

Riddle me this:

I am the beginning of eternity, the end of time and space, the beginning of every end and the end of every race.

What am I?

"The letter E." Batman/Johnny answered after he studied the riddle.

"Any idea what it is?" Gordon asked.

"It's a riddle. Quite an intriguing one actually. I'll have a closer look on this later." Batman/Johnny said putting away the envelope.

"Whoever this person is, he's been painting those green question marks graffitis for weeks now. A message perhaps?" Gordon questioned.

"He wanted to grab my attention. I don't like it. We better find and stop him before he even becomes a bigger threat." Batman/Johnny said while the police captain nodded in agreement.

Before he could say anything, Gordon was alerted when his walkie-talkie went active. He turned his back around to listen through the police radio.

"All units: we need available police officers ASAP. Confirming a high speed chase happening right now. Over." The police dispatch said through the walkie-talkie.

"Hey, Batman...." The moment Gordon turned his back to the vigilante, Batman/Johnny suddenly vanished leaving Gordon all alone on the roof. "He really likes to do that." Gordon sighed as he went back inside the precinct.

Meanwhile at a Prison facility....
All inmates were gathered together inside the cafeteria for their meals. Some of the inmates were minding their own business like they all should while some inmates were being bullied or picked on by the tougher guys.

Meanwhile at the other side of the cafeteria, a lonely inmate was only watching the news on TV. Everyone didn't dare to even bother this person out of fear, especially on what he can do to them.

All he did was sitting on his chair with his eyes directly at the television watching Batman/Johnny stoping some criminals from a high speed chase. The inmate has the most devilish grin on his face.

"He sure does know how to brighten up my mood. I'll see you soon, Bats. I've got so many surprises for you when I get out of here." The Joker grinned sinisterly while watching Batman/Johnny on the news.
