Chapter 11

Dracula, Mavis, Johnny and others are back at the pool area where they decided to have their karaoke night. Mavis was so excited to try singing some songs she's been listening lately while the rest of her monster family have no idea on what to do. It only took Johnny a couple of minutes to set up the karaoke radio.

"That's it! All finished." Johnny cheered in victory.

"Now the way that karaoke works is you just pick a song you wanted sing and just sing along with lyrics on the screen." Melly easily explained to the monsters, who now understood the rules very clear but the only problem is that they didn't know much about human songs. Luckily Johnny was there to help them.

"Now who wants to go first?" Kent suggested on his microphone.

"Mavis, you wanna go first?" Johnny asked wanted to hear her beautiful voice.

"Alright! Holy Rabies, this is going to be so much fun!" Mavis squealed in excitement as Kent gave her the mic.

Everyone cheered for Mavis before she could even began to sing. She decided to sing Who Says by Selena Gomez.

I wouldn't wanna be anybody else.
You made me insecure
Told me I wasn't good enough
But who are you to judge
When you're a diamond in the rough
I'm sure you got some things
You'd like to change about yourself
But when it comes to me
I wouldn't want to be anybody else

Na na na
Na na na
Na na na
Na na na

I'm no beauty queen
I'm just beautiful me

Na na na
Na na na

You've got every right
To a beautiful life
C'mon

Who says
Who says you're not perfect
Who says you're not worth it
Who says you're the only one that's hurting
Trust me
That's the price of beauty
Who says you're not pretty
Who says you're not beautiful
Who says

It's such a funny thing
How nothing's funny when it's you
You tell 'em what you mean
But they keep whiting out the truth
It's like a work of art
That never gets to see the light
Keep you beneath the stars
Won't let you touch the sky

Na na na
Na na na
Na na na
Na na na

I'm no beauty queen
I'm just beautiful me

Who says

Who says you're not star potential
Who says you're not presidential
Who says you can't be in movies
Listen to me, listen to me
Who says you don't pass the test
Who says you can't be the best
Who said, who said
Would you tell me who said that
Yeah, oh
Who says

Who says
Who says you're not perfect
Who says you're not worth it

Everyone cheered for Mavis after she finished the song and returned to her friends and families. Dracula cheered for her daughter the loudest but Wendy tried to out cheer Dracula the loudest, which made him confused. Meanwhile Johnny was speechless and mouth wide open like the pupil of his eyes were in a heart shaped after hearing Mavis' gorgeous voice. He stood up from his chair and started to cheer for her loudly.

"Oh my Sweet Fangs! You were great up there and I always knew you had a beautiful voice." Dracula smiled as he gave Mavis a loving hug. He teared up a little wishing that Martha would've been here to hear her daughter sing.

"Thanks, dad." Mavis smiled hugging her father back. She also wished that her mother would've been here. Melly and Mavis' friends came up to Mavis.

"Mavis, you were awesome back there!" Wendy exclaimed.

"Yeah. You're really doing great in Karaoke." Hank said.

"They're right, Mavis! Plus, you sound like Selena Gomez!" Melly complimented as she hugged Mavis.

"Thanks, Melly. Johnny also said that I sound just like her but I don't know she is." Mavis said.

"She's a famous pop singer but I'll explain it later." Melly explained. Mavis then turns to Johnny, who was smiling at her.

"So what do you think?" Mavis teasingly asked Johnny.

"Mavis, you're the best!" Johnny quickly gave her fiancée a lovely passionate kiss. "You're a wonderful singer and I hope you would sing in our wedding again." Johnny said causing Mavis to blush.

"Alright, party-boy. It's your turn. Show us what you got." Kent said while giving the microphone to Johnny.

"Woah hold up. Why don't we give the others a chance to try?" Johnny said.

"Come on, Johnny! I wanna hear you sing!" Mavis begged wanting to see her future husband sing in front of her. The Loughrans then started to cheer for him.

"Alright. I'm only going to sing for you, Mavy." Johnny gave a quick kiss on Mavis' cheek. He got up from his chair and walked towards in front as he grabbed the microphone. Johnny decided to sing For The First Time by The Script for Mavis.

She's all laid up in bed with a broken heart
While I'm drinking Jack all alone in my local bar
And we don't know how we got into this mad situation
Only doing things out of frustration
Trying to make it work but man these times are hard

She needs me now but I can't seem to find a time
I've got a new job now in the unemployment line
And we don't know how we got into this mess it's a gods test
Someone help us 'cause we're doing our best
Trying to make it work but man these times are hard

But we're gonna start by drinking old cheap bottles of wine
Sit talking up all night
Saying things we haven't for a while, a while yeah
We're smiling but we're close to tears
Even after all these years
We just now got the feeling that we're meeting
For the first time

Oooooo
Oooooo
Oooooo

She's in line at the dole with her head held high
While I just lost my job but didn't lose my pride
But we both know how we're gonna make it work when it hurts
When you pick yourself up you get kicked to the dirt
Trying to make it work but man these times are hard

But we're gonna start by drinking old cheap bottles of wine
Sit talking up all night
Doing things we haven't for a while, a while yeah
Smiling but we're close to tears
Even after all these years
We just now got the feeling that we're meeting
For the first time

Oooooo
Oooooo
Oooooo

Johnny continued singing as he walked towards to Mavis. He slowly held her hand gently pulling her out from her chair. Johnny grabbed Mavis' arms and wrapped it around his neck while he he wrapped his arms around Mavis' waist. Mavis just softly giggled at Johnny's romantic moves

Drinking old cheap bottles of wine
Sit talking up all night
Saying things we haven't for a while, a while yeah

We're smiling but we're close to tears
Even after all these years
We just now got the feeling that we're meeting
For the first time

Oooooo.... Yeah, for the first time
Oooooo.... Oh, for the first time
Yeah, for the first time
Just now got the feeling that we're meeting
For the first time

Johnny attempts to rest his forehead on Mavis' forehead looking directly at her big blue eyes like he was hypnotized. They managed to do a slow dance with Johnny pulling Mavis closer to him while everyone admired the scene of the lovely couple.

Oh these times are hard
Yeah they're making us crazy
Don't give up on me baby
Oh these times are hard
Yeah they're making us crazy
Don't give up on me baby
Oh these times are hard
Yeah they're making us crazy
Don't give up on me baby
Oh these times are hard
Yeah they're making us crazy
Don't give up on me baby

Everyone clapped from Johnny's performance and were awed at the young couple's slow dance showing that they are really meant for each other.

"Love you, Johnnystein." Mavis whispered in a lovely tone while starring at Johnny's eyes.

"Love you too, Mavy-wavy." Johnny whispered as his lips slowly met Mavis' lips and kissed passionately.

"Aww." Everyone said while looking at how cute they are together.

"Aww, they look so perfect together." Wanda said.

"They sure do, Wanda." Dracula softly said smiling at the young couple.

"How about the two of us sing another song?" Mavis suggested after breaking the kiss.

"Sure. And I know just what to choose." Johnny pulled out his phone to show Mavis what they were going to sing next. After finishing listening to the song, Mavis grabbed another microphone to sing along with Johnny. They were going to sing We Don't Talk Anymore by Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez.

(Johnny)
We don't talk anymore, we don't talk anymore
We don't talk anymore, like we used to do
We don't love anymore
What was all of it for?
Oh, we don't talk anymore, like we used to do

I just heard you found the one you've been looking
You've been looking for
I wish I would have known that wasn't me
'Cause even after all this time I still wonder
Why I can't move on
Just the way you did so easily

Don't wanna know
What kind of dress you're wearing tonight
If he's holding onto you so tight
The way I did before
I overdosed
Should've known your love was a game
Now I can't get you out of my brain
Oh, it's such a shame

That we don't talk anymore, we don't talk anymore
We don't talk anymore, like we used to do
We don't love anymore
What was all of it for?
Oh, we don't talk anymore, like we used to do

(Mavis)
I just hope you're lying next to somebody
Who knows how to love you like me
There must be a good reason that you're gone
Every now and then I think you
Might want me to come show up at your door
But I'm just too afraid that I'll be wrong

Don't wanna know
If you're looking into her eyes
If she's holding onto you so tight the way I did before
I overdosed
Should've known your love was a game
Now I can't get you out of my brain
Oh, it's such a shame

(Johnny and Mavis)
That we don't talk anymore (We don't, we don't)
We don't talk anymore (We don't, we don't)
We don't talk anymore, like we used to do
We don't love anymore (We don't, we don't)
What was all of it for? (We don't, we don't)
Oh, we don't talk anymore, like we used to do
Like we used to do

(Johnny)
Don't wanna know
What kind of dress you're wearing tonight
If he's giving it to you just right
The way I did before

(Mavis)
I overdosed
Should've known your love was a game
Now I can't get you out of my brain

(Johnny)
Oh, it's such a shame

(Johnny and Mavis)
That we don't talk anymore (We don't, we don't)
We don't talk anymore (We don't, we don't)
We don't talk anymore, like we used to do
We don't love anymore (We don't, we don't)
What was all of it for? (We don't, we don't)
Oh, we don't talk anymore, like we used to do
We don't talk anymore, oh, oh
(What kind of dress you're wearing tonight)
(If he's holding onto you so tight)
The way I did before
We don't talk anymore, oh, woah
(Should've known your love was a game)
(Now I can't get you out of my brain)
Ooh, it's such a shame
That we don't talk anymore

Once again, Mavis and Johnny's friends and families gave another round of applause for their outstanding performance. Johnny bowed like a gentleman while Mavis also bowed as she tilted her dress a little as a curtsy.

The engaged couple went back to their seats and waited for the next volunteers to sing. They all volunteered Wayne and Wanda to sing next but they had no idea on what to sing.

"We don't know what to sing!" Wayne exclaimed trying to back out but Wanda wanted to try.

"Don't worry, Wayne. I can help you guys with that." Johnny pulled his phone out to let them choose what song they wanted to sing. At the end, they chose Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.

"I think it'll be fun, dear." Wanda said a little excited.

With that settled, Wayne and Wanda went in front with their microphone and started singing.

(Wayne)
Listen baby, ain't no mountain high
Ain't no valley low, ain't no river wide enough baby

(Wanda)
If you need me call me no matter where you are
No matter how far don't worry baby
Just call my name I'll be there in a hurry
You don't have to worry

(Wayne and Wanda)
'Cause baby there ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe

(Wayne)
Remember the day I set you free
I told you you could always count on me darling
From that day on, I made a vow
I'll be there when you want me
Some way, some how

(Wayne and Wanda)
'Cause baby there ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe

(Wayne)
Oh no darling
No wind, no rain
Or winters cold can stop me baby, na na baby
'Cause you are my goal
If you're ever in trouble
I'll be there on the double
Just send for me, oh baby, ha

(Wanda)
My love is alive
Way down in my heart
Although we are miles apart
If you ever need a helping hand
I'll be there on the double
Just as fast as I can
Don't you know that there

(Wayne and Wanda)
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe

Don'tcha know that there
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
Ain't mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough

Everyone clapped at Wayne and Wanda's performance and thanked them for their applause as they headed back to their seats.

"Give it up for the werewolves, everybody!" Griffin said while clapping his hands.

"I'm loving Karaoke Night!" Mavis squealed having the nigh of her life.

"Alright, Frank. Your turn." Wayne said giving the microphone to his friend, Frank.

"Yeah. Come on, dad! I wanna see you try it." Hank suggested.

"Alright, fine. I'll give it a shot." Frank said as he grabbed the microphone from Wayne trying to be a show-off. "What songs do you got for me, Johnny?"

Johnny showed a couple of songs to Frank in his phone. After he chose and listened to the song, Frank started to sing Lovely Day by Bill Withers

When I wake up in the morning, love
And the sunlight hurts my eyes
And something without warning, love
Bears heavy on my mind

Then I look at you
And the world's alright with me
Just one look at you
And I know it's gonna be
A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)

When the day that lies ahead of me
Seems impossible to face
When someone else instead of me
Always seems to know the way

Then I look at you
And the world's alright with me
Just one look at you
And I know it's gonna be
A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)

When the day that lies ahead of me
Seems impossible to face
And when someone else instead of me
Always seems to know the way

Then I look at you
And the world's alright with me
Just one look at you
And I know it's gonna be
A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)

Frank returned to his seat with Eunice and Hank, who cheered for him the loudest.

"Looks like we all know who's going to be the champion in karaoke night." Frank said as he puts both of his hands behind his head while relaxing on his chair trying to be a better singer than everyone.

"Uh... it's not a competition or anything. We're just trying to have some fun." Kent explained.

"Yeah, I know." Frank frowned while everyone chuckled at his failure.

"That's what you get for trying to be a show-off, Frankie." Murray laughed.

"Nice one, Uncle Murray." Pedro gave an high five at his uncle.

This gave Johnny the opportunity to show that he could be great singer.

"You know what, I'll go for more time." Johnny sang another song for fun and this time it was My Religion by Troy Baker.

Put the needle down
She came in through the window.
Spinnin' round and round
This is how I wanna feel
And the sound fills my soul
Like the sun shining through my window.
Let it flow through my veins
This is My Religion
This is My Religion

I'll put the needle down
The sky is a laughin'
Oh, it spits us to the ground
Until we burst in through a stereo
Yeah the sound fills my soul
Like the sun shining through my window
Let it flow through my veins
This is My Religion
This is My Religion

Oh! Oh oh!

As I bow my head to pray,
May the verses that they say,
Fall like wine to my lips
This is My Religion

Put the needle down! (This is My Religion)
Put the needle down! (This is My Religion)
I'll put your needle down! (This is My Religion)
Put the needle down!
This is My Religion!

Johnny ended the song while Mavis cheered for him the loudest. He gave Kent a fist bump for trying to be cool and sat back on his chair next to Mavis. It was Melly who volunteered next to sing next and she chose Carried Me With You by Brandi Carlilie

You're the soul who understands
The scars that made me who I am
Through the drifting sands of time
I got your back and you got mine

If you bear a heavy load
I'll be your wheels, I'll be the road
I'll see us through the thick and thin
For love and loss until the end

'Cause you carried me with you
From the highest of the peaks
To the darkness of the blue
I was just too blind to see
Like a lighthouse in a storm
You were always guiding me
Yeah, it's true
You carried me with you

From the day it all began
Yeah, you were there, you took my hand
And when I hurt a bit too deep
You watched me as I fell asleep

And when my head was in the clouds
You found a way to pull me out
You picked my heart up off the ground
And it showed me love was all around

Yeah, you carried me with you
From the highest of the peaks
To the darkness of the blue
I was just too blind to see
Like a lighthouse in a storm
You were always guiding me
Yeah, it's true
You carried me with you

Oh, we'll be sittin' on the world together (Ooh-ooh)
Watchin' as the days turn into night (Ooh-ooh)
We know how to brave the stormy weather (Ooh-ooh)
And we're never givin' up without a fight

If you should ever bear a heavy load
I'll be your wheels, I'll be the road
I'll see us through the thick and thin
For love and loss until the end

'Cause you carried me with you
From the highest of the peaks
To the darkness of the blue
I was just too blind to see
Like a lighthouse in a storm
You were always guiding me
Yeah, it's true
You carried me with you
Oh, you carried me with you

The Loughrans, Mavis, and Alfred cheered for Melly while Brett, Kent, and Johnny almost teared up when listening to the message of the song wishing their parents would've been here.

"That was wonderful, Melly." Alfred said in a caring tone and smiled.

"Thanks, Alfred." Melly smiled as she hugged Alfred while Brett, Kent, and Johnny also joined their hug. They also thanked Alfred for being there when they needed him.

"Mavis, is it okay if you could sing another song. I'm sure you'll like it because it's just like you and Johnny." Melly asked her future sister-in-law.

"Sure. I would love too!" Mavis said in a friendly way. Melly lets Mavis listen to the song on her phone and smiled that it reflects her and Johnny's story when he first arrived at the hotel. Mavis was told to sing Love Story by Taylor Swift.

We were both young when I first saw you
I close my eyes and the flashback starts
I'm standin' there
On a balcony in summer air
See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns
See you make your way through the crowd
And say, "Hello"
Little did I know

That you were Romeo, you were throwin' pebbles
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet"
And I was cryin' on the staircase
Beggin' you, "Please don't go, " and I said

Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"

So I sneak out to the garden to see you
We keep quiet, 'cause we're dead if they knew
So close your eyes
Escape this town for a little while, oh oh

'Cause you were Romeo, I was a scarlet letter
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet"
But you were everything to me
I was beggin' you, "Please don't go, " and I said

Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"
Romeo, save me, they're tryna tell me how to feel
This love is difficult, but it's real
Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"

Oh, oh

I got tired of waiting
Wonderin' if you were ever comin' around
My faith in you was fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town, and I said

Romeo, save me, I've been feeling so alone
I keep waiting for you, but you never come
Is this in my head? I don't know what to think
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring

And said, "Marry me, Juliet
You'll never have to be alone
I love you and that's all I really know
I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
'Cause we were both young when I first saw you

Everyone applauded and cheered loudly for Mavis once again. Johnny quickly ran towards and grabbed her on the waist spinning her around. They both laughed for a second until Johnny gave Mavis the biggest kiss on her lips.

"Will you marry me?" Johnny whispered even though Mavis already answered the question.

"Yes! Of course I will!" Mavis giggled playfully giving Johnny a quick kiss on his nose.

Listening his daughter singing, Dracula remembers the time when he almost ruined her 118th daughter when Quasimodo exposed Johnny as a human and was forced to leave the hotel leaving Mavis heartbroken. Dracula then came to the young couple and gave Mavis another big hug.

"Oh my Mavy-wavy that was beautiful! I'm terribly sorry that I almost ruined the night of your 118th birthday. I was just trying to protect you and I was afraid that I'd lose you forever." Dracula cried hugging Mavis tightly.

"Aww, daddy." Mavis said in a loving tone hugging her father back. "I know you only wanted to protect me and I loved you for that. I'm also sorry for yelling at you that night." Mavis replied sadly.

"It's alright, sweet fang. It was my fault anyway. I'm just glad to see you safe and happy. Johnny and I are friends now anyway." Dracula said in a caring tone. "I'd only wish your mother was here with us to see how you've grown up."

"Me too, dad. I wish she was here with us." Mavis let a small tear fall down on her cheek.

Everyone smiled at the father and daughter and let out a few 'aww' while witnessing the adorable moment. Johnny took the opportunity to take a picture of Dracula and Mavis on his smartphone to cherish the moment.

After their karaoke night ended, Everyone spent the rest of the night talking. Dracula is with Frank, Eunice, Wayne, Wanda, Murray, and Griffin talking. Brett, Kent, and Alfred got the chance to catch up. Hank, Pedro, and Wendy played some games as usual but Mavis was with Melly were bonding like sisters. On the other hand, Johnny was at a very lonely part of the pool area enjoying the beautiful night. That is when Brett came to check on him.

"There's my little brother. What are you up to?" Brett asked curiously joining his brother.

"Nothing. Just enjoying the night." Johnny said watching the night sky. "How's the company by the way?"

"It's doing great. I mean there were times I get frustrated but luckily Kent and Melly were there to help time to time." Brett said.

"Great to hear that." Johnny was relieved. Secretly, he's been using their family's company to get new upgrades for his bat-tech whenever he needed it. A couple of seconds passed until Johnny breaks the silence when he asked his eldest brother a question. "Do you think mom and dad would've approved?"

"Approve of what?" Brett asked.

"I mean do you think they would've like Mavis and the others if they're here with us right now?" Johnny clarified the question.

"Of course they would love her. Besides, Mavis going to be part of our family pretty soon and we can see how much he makes you happy." Brett said cheering his youngest brother up.

"Well let's just say, she's my Juliet and I'm her Romeo. She really means a lot to me. But thanks, Brett." Johnny smiled at his eldest brother.

"Anytime, little brother." Brett have a quick pat on Johnny's shoulder.

Johnny was alone again as Brett left and joined the others. Johnny noticed his phone got an emergency alert so he needed more time to be alone. He grabbed his earbud on his pocket and puts it his right ear. He turned his head around to see if anyone was coming right at him but everyone was so busy he was completely alone. He continued listening to the police communication line.

"Attention all units, we need all available police officers at bank. Confirming dangerous armed men wearing clown masks." The police dispatcher said.

"The Joker's men. Wonder why he's committing a bank robbery?" Johnny thought.

"Rodger that, Dispatcher. We're going in." A police said.

"Negative! Confirming another suspect with a jet pack and armed with a flamethrower highly dangerous with multiple hostages. Requesting for backup immediately." Another police stated.

"Rodger that. Backup is on its way. Dispatcher out." The police dispatcher ended.

"I need to get to the bank quickly before The Joker hurts any of the hostages." Johnny thought as he quickly puts his phone and earbud back on his pocket and headed to his room to change into his batsuit.

To be continued....
