Chapter 42

Johnny had already left the hotel and stayed in at Alfred's new house, or the Cartwright's old home. The red head placed his oversized backpack inside his guest room to get some rest.

A part of Johnny wanted to hear Mavis' voice before gets some sleep so he grabbed his phone and dialed some numbers. Johnny could only hear the phone ringing as he waited for minutes until a familiar voice answered.

"Hello?" Mavis answered.

"Hey, Mavy." Johnny brightened his mood when he heard Mavis' voice.

"Hi, sweetie! How are you doing?" Mavis asked.

"I'm staying here with Alfred's until the wedding. I called because I wanted to check up on you. How are you?" Johnny smiled while talking to Mavis.

"Aww... Johnny, I miss you too. I'm doing quite alright. Me and dad just went out for a fly." Mavis answered.

"That's wonderful to hear." Johnny said as he yawned I'm tiredness.

"Are you okay? Your voice sounds different." Mavis asked worriedly.

"I'm alright, Mavy. Just a little tired. That's all." Johnny said still yawning.

"Aww... I think you should better get some rest, honey. We've got a big night ahead of us!" Mavis said in comforting tone.

"Okay, I will. I just wanna hear your voice. That's all. I love you." Johnny lovingly said.

"I love too, Johnny-stein. Bye." Mavis said making a quick kiss sound over the phone for Johnny and the call ended.

Alfred then came in the room to check up on the young red head.

"Are you quite settled, my boy? Do you need anything else?" Alfred asked.

"No, Al. I've got everything I need for tonight. Thanks for letting me stay here, Al." Johnny said.

"Of course, Johnny. You're always welcome here. One thing we need to worry about is a pest problem." Alfred said.

"What do you mean, Alfred?" Johnny asked confusingly.

"Well if you must know, I've encountered a flying bat rodent entered the house earlier this afternoon. I tried my best to keep it off the house." Alfred explained.

"A bat? Are you sure it wasn't Drac or Mavis checking up on you? Vampires can turn into bats you know." Johnny said.

"I can assure you it wasn't Dracula or Mavis. The last time a saw the bat was he flew back outside the garden." Alfred explained.

"Hmph... I'll go try to check it out." Johnny said.

Johnny went outside the house and started to roam around the garden while holding his flashlight to spot anything hiding behind the darkest area. He pointed the light towards the bushes that looks like it was hiding something. Johnny pulled some bushes away and it was revealed that it was blocking a deep well.

Johnny went back inside the house and grabbed some equipments from his oversized backpack. He grabbed his cables that he's been using during his mountain climbing and head back outside the house to investigate the old well further more.

Johnny used the cable and climbed deeply down the well until his feet reached the rocky ground. Johnny looked around underneath the deep well where he spotted a small hole through the rocky wall. He was able to crouch down slowly through the hole and found himself inside a giant, dark, cold, and echoey cave.

"Dang... I didn't the Cartwrights had a giant cave underneath their house." Johnny chuckled as his voice echoed a little throughout the cave.

Johnny turned on his flashlight again and examined the rock formations around the cave. There were water vapors coming out from his mouth each time he takes deep breaths. While flashing his light around the cave, Johnny can hear screeching noises echoing through the cave.

Just then, thousands of bats came out flying towards Johnny. The red head flinched and tried to protect himself from the bats. Johnny began to noticed that the bats weren't attacking him so he removed his arms from his head with his eyes closed. Johnny slowly stood up and feeling the bats flying passed by him. The bats kept flying around the cave while Johnny just stood there closing his eyes, embracing his symbol of fear. Batman and Johnny just discovered his new Batcave.
