2...Bakugou - if only to know your place

2...

*MENTION OF WAR, ABUSE, AND SICKNESS*

Long, like, REALLY LONG, LIKE 2701 WORDS LONG

Y/n listened intently and with wide eyes as her father yelled orders at the generals of their armies filtered in, several hundred soldiers following obediently behind.

"What's going on?"

"The Bakugou kingdom has become hostile."

"What? We were trading with them a few months ago?!"

"Be quiet! Know your place."

Y/n's body jolted in a flinch as her father's hand raised, he glanced at the many soldiers watching, resorting to pointing at her instead.

"Go to your room and be reader for supper, have the handmaidens help you."

Y/n nodded, running away through the hallway and towards her room.

She crashed through the door, sobbing as her handmaidens dashed to comfort her.

"Oh dear! What happened!" The brown haired handmaiden, Uraraka, exclaimed, resting a gentle hand on Y/n's back as she was led to her chair in the corner of the room.

"F-Father almost hit me in front of the soldiers!"

"Oh gods! Your mother would not be pleased!" Another handmaiden, Hagakure, murmured, quiet enough for only the other handmaidens to hear.

Y/n's mother had died in a quarrel with the Todoroki kingdom, and Y/n feared the same may happen to her father in the current war.

"We will do everything we can to stop this, darling." Asui (or Tsuyu, as she preferred to be called) spoke, crouching down in front of Y/n to make eye contact, her heavily frog like features accentuated in the bright sunset light filtering in from the large widow on the opposite side of the room.

"We promise."

~*~*~*~*~

"Your majesty!" A guard called through the door of Y/n's room, startling the four peoples inside. It had been nearly a week since the king's large outburst, and he had fallen gravely sick.

"The king has requested your presence."

Y/n glanced worriedly at her handmaidens, though they all only stared back in equal confusion.

Y/n was ushered out the door by a very hesitant Uraraka, though eventually, Y/n made her way towards the largest bedroom of the castle on her own, shaky, and terrified.

"Y/n..." Her father's voice called weakly, she scurried to the edge of his bed, her eyebrows furrowing as he gently reached out for her hand.

"I am not fit to rule the kingdom."

Y/n's brain whirred with different thoughts.

'Is he finally going to give me a position of power?! Am I ready for this!? Will I have advisors?! What-'

"We have made an arrangement with the Bakugou kingdom You are to be married to their son."

Y/n froze, glancing at the guards in the room. They all remained emotionless.

"Who will run our kingdom?"

"They will do what is best, as this, is their kingdom as well as soon as you are wed."

~*~*~*~*~

Y/n shifted uncomfortably as she walked towards the carriage waiting for her in front of the castle.

Today, she was to meet and marry the future king of both the Bakugou, and L/n kingdom.

All in all, she wanted to jump from the nearest cliff.

As she climbed into the large carriage, she sighed, staring out at the trees as they flew past her.

Sure, the Bakugous had lots of magical creatures at their aid, and Y/n wished for nothing more than this war to end, but in the end, she didn't want to marry someone she hadn't even met yet!

But she figured it couldn't be stopped, after all...

She had to know her place.

~*~*~*~*~

Upon arrival at the edge of the Bakugou kingdom she spotted a small gathering of what seemed to be an array of high class, to low class individuals chatting away happily with each other (minus one that seemed unusually stone-faced).

She stepped out of the carriage and trumpets were sounded, startling her.

She embarrassedly lowered her head, making her way towards the castle. Villagers stopped and stared at the woman walking through town.

Y/n made a point to never look the part of royalty, in fact, she despised the title. She wished nothing more than to become a baker's daughter and fall in love with the blacksmith just like one of her old fairytale books she kept in the satchel wrapped around her waist.

Her father also despised something, Y/n's love for reading, he had made the mistake of sending her off with a teacher, who taught her to read, and do math, causing a small sense of independence to rise in the girl, and the king, being the 'only power to me' type fellow, fired the teacher and demanded Y/n's education be taken no further, but she still found books in the library, and read them lovingly.

Though, that is besides the point, Y/n walked into the castle gates, glancing behind her as the doors were slammed closed by guards, causing the peaceful village life Y/n only dreamed of to disappear, and be replaced with the eerie candle lit scenery of the castle.

A maid walked up to her with a large smile, leading her down a hallway towards what seemed like a meeting room.

The door was swung open by another set of guards, revealing a 10 feet long, 3 feet wide dining table surrounded by chairs, two filled, to be revealed.

Both of the inhabitants of the chairs sat at the very ends of the table, glancing over at Y/n with a nod of greeting and a motion for her to seat herself.

She sat in the middle, placing herself equally between the king and queen.

"Hello, I am Mitsuki, your future mother in-law. Can we offer you some food, our son should be here soon, he was out with some of his friends and ended up staying late."

Y/n paused.

'Why is the queen talking and not the king?! I would be hit for this!'

"Thank you Your highness."

"Oh please, call me Mitsuki! And this is Masaru!" The blonde woman smiled again, motioning towards her husband.

"We would firstly like to apologize for forcing you into a marriage. Your father fell ill and we are not... cruel in the sense that we would have war with an unstable country. We recognize you may be uncomfortable and wish only the best between you and our son. You may have been told you are to be married today but I am happy to inform you that is untrue and not morally correct. You will have a year with my son. Your father will have no knowledge as he seems unusually eager to rid of you, however you seem like a decent young lady."

"T-Thank you... I have never actually been given the chance to know your son's name?"

"Ah! Katsuki is-" The door slammed open, clearly not being the guard's doing.

"Speak of the devil and he shall appear! Don't worry dear, he may seem aggressive but that's just because he was raised with Dragons." Mitsuki whispered to Y/n with a large smile and a giggle, causing the girl to laugh as well.

"Is this the girl?" Katsuki hissed.

Y/n turned to see him, hesitating as she recognized him. He had blonde hair and red eyes.

'The stone-faced boy from earlier!'

Y/n smiled with a nod.

"Oi, speak, you're not mute are you?"

"N-No! It's just not my place." Y/n stuttered, averting her eyes back to her lap.

"You're the future queen and you think it's not your place-"

"Katsuki. She was raised like the Todoroki's." The young man paused, glancing at the girl.

He sighed, sitting down across from her and reaching for food immediately.

A wave of quiet washed over the table, not uncomfortable, but tense.

Y/n could tell she would get along fine with Mitsuki and Masaru, but Katsuki... he may be a different story.

~*~*~*~*~

Y/n smiled in peace as she walked through the gardens of the Bakugou castle.

It had been about a week since her departure from her kingdom, and so far, she had no difficulties with the new place she had learned to inhabit.

The villagers loved her dearly, greeting her with a wave, nod, or happy greeting when she walked through the town to the bakery to buy a single muffin.

As Y/n stopped to admire the [favorite flower]s she was startled by a lone voice behind her.

"Are those your favorites?" She turned her head to see Katsuki, adorned in what looked like subtle amour and his small crown.

He gestured towards the flowers Y/n had been previously admiring and she nodded, smiling warmly at him.

Bakugou scoffed.

"Look, I know you're in the habit of 'not thinking it's your place' but... you can't run a kingdom in silence."

Y/n's brows furrowed.

"I beg your pardon? I will not be running a kingdom as far as I've been told?" She asked in confusion, turning her body to see him fully.

The youngest Bakugou's own brows tilted downward.

"You will be running your father's kingdom when we get married. I'm not fucking running two kingdoms by myself." Katsuki deadpanned.

Y/n was taken aback.

"I know nothing about running a kingdom and fear I will be it's downfall. Will you teach me? How to be tactical and such?"

And that's exactly what Katsuki did.

He put her in her rightful place as a true queen.

~*~*~*~*~

"Katsuki, do you know when the Dragons will be migrating?"

"In new summers eve, why?"

"Oh, I was just asking because their patterns seem off as of late." Y/n mentioned, pointing to the journal in front of her, that of Kirishima's (Katsuki's best friend and the village halfling) observations of his own kind.

"It says that the dragons have been more wary of the north, and avoiding all contact."

"Is that not where your Old man's kingdom is?"

"Hm, I suppose he may have sent more watch guards out."

"I'll have the archers check it out." Katsuki leaned over the desk, his arm coming to rest over Y/n's shoulders, a usual habit of his.

He never seemed to like intimacy with his other friends, but seemed to want to be touching Y/n in some way when they were together, whether it was an arm slung lazily over her shoulders, or a very subtle link of their pinkies.

It had been nearly seven months since Y/n arrived in the Bakugou kingdom. And her relationship with Katsuki seemed to be steadily growing with each week that passed.

He leaned down resting his chin on the top of her head as he scanned the maps and notebooks splayed front of her. Her quill rapidly sped across a paper as she took notes of the new patterns the dragons were exhibiting.

"Are you just going to sit here and write about dragons? Kirishima can literally shapeshift and you care about his journal?"

Y/n chuckled nervously, shutting the small book she was writing in, Katsuki pulled away as she stood, replacing the maps and books in their original place of the shelves.

"You really are smart you know that? You almost don't need my help with tactics and shit."

"Katsuki, as much as you flatter me, it was never my place as a leader, much less a queen."

"Well, you're my future wife so you best get used to it before we get married." Katsuki retorted smartly, walking forward and pulling her into a hug.

"I'll try."

~*~*~*~*~

Mitsuki sighed in frustration as she read through the letter a messenger had delivered to her. Y/n, Katsuki, Masaru, and her all sat in the castle library, all previously having been reading, though now their attention was fully on Mitsuki and the parchment held tightly in her hands.

'Dear Masaru Bakugou,

I hope this letter finds you in good health, as I am coming to visit my daughter, I expect her to be wed to your son by now, along with a future heir on the way.'

"They are literal children, how can he expect so much!" Mitsuki hissed at the paper as she read it aloud to her family (and future family).

'Along with my previous expectations, I expect my daughter to have learned her place in the kingdom. She was raised to know she has no place of power in government, and only holds the position of creating heirs for future kingdoms to rely on. I expect you to agree with these expectations as I have deduced from our previous discussions.'

"Does he truly expect them to be moving along in their relationship so quickly? Bakugou is only 18, how can he expect them to grow up so quickly?" Masaru questioned, placing the book in his lap to the side.

'My daughter, I assume, takes no place in governmental meetings, or in meetings determining the future of our kingdoms. If she has forced her way into such meetings, I will be undeterred if you request a reprimanding or beating. I have fully recovered from my ailment and will be coming to visit three moons after this letter finds you.

King's wealth,

[father's name] L/n'

Mitsuki scoffed in shock, glancing up at her son who was holding Y/n's hand tightly as he glared at the bright red seal at the bottom of the paper.

Y/n seemed unfazed, her reading never ceasing, though she was still listening to the conversation.

"Does he always expect this much of you?"

"Oh yes, he planned to marry me to the youngest Todoroki when I turned 13 and had my first bleeding week, but prince Todoroki was already betrothed to the Yaoyorozu princess."

Mitsuki, Katsuki and Masaru stared with wide eyes as Y/n flipped the page of her book, glancing up at the three people around her and doing a double take as she realized they were staring.

"Is something wrong?"

"YES!"

~*~*~*~*~

The day came, that Y/n's father would visit, and the Bakugous planned to confront the king, and accuse him of the high (and unrealistic) expectations he had set for the two teens.

As the L/n king walked into the castle (followed by an obnoxiously large entourage), he was led to the same dining room Y/n was led to when she first arrived as well.

As the king entered the room he noticed no feast set upon the table, and the odd look of seriousness in the eyes of all but Y/n in the room.

There were servants and chefs gathered around, who had all grown attached to Y/n, and did not understand or sympathize with the way the second L/n was treating her.

"King Bakugou!"

"Are you not going to address my wife?"

"No! She shouldn't even be here! We are to discuss politics are we not?"

"And that is why we need her. If you are not able to treat all royalty, kings and queens alike, as equals, how can we trust you to run a kingdom."

"I beg your pardon? Women are weak and frail-"

"I'm going to cut you off before I get aggressive." Katsuki hissed, standing from his place at the table next to Y/n. Letting go of her hand temporarily.

"Both my mother and Y/n will stay, they are royalty and have all the same right to discuss with us. Correct?"

"Yes Katsuki." Y/n smiled up at him from her seat in the chair.

"Hush child, you have no right to speak to me that way, know your-"

"I know my place! And it is at this table, speaking about the same manners the men are speaking of. I am not a toy to be thrown around and discarded when I am no longer needed. I will be treated fairly. I have learned from the Bakugous that I am not lower than they, and I am in fact a future queen. Treat me as such, or leave without a heir."

King L/n stared in shock at his daughter, who's presence seemed to change in an instance.

Katsuki, for once, cracked a small smile as he saw the bravery erupt from his fiancé.

"I suppose, I do need a heir, but there is now no such need for discussion. You will not however be inheriting my kingdom and army until I die."

"No need to wait, you're old enough." Mitsuki shrugged, waving with false kindness as the L/n king gasped in insult and turned stomping away.

"That went well."
