1978

I woke up exited for the upcoming day. So many thoughts rushed through my head as I got dressed. I wonder what my parents got me. Will Karen come around and play. I put on my pale yellow dress, some thrill socks and my prettiest white shoes. I tried my best at doing my hair like my mom's but failed miserably. I looked for the final bow but realised I left it on the opposite side of the room.

I closed my eyes and focused on the object and suddenly it came flying towards me and landed on the ground by my foot. I picked it up, put it in my hair and twirled proudly in front of my mirror. I then headed out of my room and down the stairs with the biggest smile on my face.

I awoke to the clanging of the guards keys and some shouting. I look at the clock above my door. 6.30am. I rip the sheets off of me and grab my shower stuff out of my box under my bed. I opened my door and was met by two guards. "you're not allowed to leave your room yet" the stubborn man spat at me. "it's 6.30 I'm allowed to leave" I never usually have this tone with the guards because I know what trouble I could get into. So instead of waiting for an answer I walked back into my dim room and waited for 7am.

After my fresh shower and a little calm time in the rainbow room I felt refreshed. If I where to admit that to one of my sisters or brothers they would make fun of me but after being in isolation for 10 days for using my powers against papa it was nice to be out. I sat in my usual spot in the corner by the book stand trying my hardest to teach myself how to read properly.

Suddenly papa walked in and we all lined up. "good morning children" he said in his usual tone as if he has never done anything wrong. "good morning papa" some of us replied with our monotone voices and the rest all up beat. This place was a joke and I was sick and tired of some of my brother and sisters not noticing that is was. "right children I would like to introduce you to a new orderly" papa interrupted my thoughts.

The boy walked inside he was tall, his hair was a almost a dirty blonde and he looked a bit older than me. Me and 007 made eye contact thinking the same thing. "hello children I'm peter an-" papa interrupts him "but you must call him Mr ballard its very unprofessional" he gives a look to Mr ballard who just slightly nods back to him. "sorry im mr ballard and im the new orderly who will be joining to help aid you in your progress"

After papa tells us a few things about what we will be doing today he gives us permission to go off and do our own activities and tried to convince us to speak to the new orderly to help him settle in. I sit down in the corner and carry on reading my book. Every now and then I look up and look around me to see what my siblings where doing. 011 was playing with the counters. 006 was talking to papa and 002 and his gang where talking to Mr ballard. Great another orderly who makes 002 their favourite. I concentrate on Mr ballards face, why was he so familiar.

Papa then walks back over to the door which was his way of saying its time to line up again so we all stopped what we where doing and went to line up. "right children today we have another test so please follow me". I hated tests and always got fidgety when we had one. As we where walking out of the room I felt a sudden hand on my back. "I can tell your nervous, don't worry if anything bad happens you know that there are lots of people to help you" he gives me a smile and I give him a faint one in return. We all come to a hault and see a sign above the door. I couldn't read it properly but I heard my siblings chattering at it. "please be quiet" papa shouts startling us all.

We enter a room that had two large glass cylinders in the far back of the room. Each clear cylinder had water tanks on top. After we settled down we lined up against the wall with papa facing us. "today children your lives depend on eachother and your own concentration" I looked at Mr ballard confused on what papa meant when he said our lives depended on each other hoping he would have any idea but he just stood there with the same blank expression. "you will be placed in a tank each, you will have to use your powers to unscrew the the bolts on each side of the tank. Once they are both undone the water tanks will flip over and your tanks will start to fill up with water. After you have done that you have to undo the bolts at the bottom of your brother or sisters tank and once you have done that the water will start to empty. Does every one understand"

everyone nodded with scared looks on their faces. "right I will be pairing you up and also those under the age of 10 will not compete and stand on the other side of the room" papa starts to pair us up. First it was
014 against 017 which 014 won
007 against 016 which 007 won
006 against 015 which 015 won
018 against 011 which was tense but sadly 018 won and 011 had to be let out as an emergency.

Finally it was me and 002's turn to do this i wouldnt really say go against each other it was just a test to see how well our powers where while under pressure i had gathered. as one of the guards was locking my door I saw 010 give me a little thumbs up which made my heart melt. When papa said go I was immediately ahead. I was so confused because normally 002 was better then this. After a tense 2ish minutes the water was half way filled up in my tank I was petrified and was letting my feelings take over I couldn't stop so i closed my eyes gathered my thoughts and took a couple of second to acknowledge them then i brushed them off. I finally concentrated back on the bolts. Finally the first bolt was undone on 002s tank and the water started to slowly drip out of the bottom like a broken tap. just one more to go but then my focus suddenly switches back to the water in my tank it was finally time to go under I took a deep breath then dunked and opened my eyes trying to make out the bolt at the bottom of 002s cage through the water.

I thought I wasn't done but i heard a gush of water empty from 002s cage. I was surprised at how quick it was undoing as I was barely doing any work. I waited for them to open my cage but no one came. I was starting to panic my air was running out and I couldn't see my bolt moving at the bottom of the tank. I started to hit the walls of the tank. my vision was starting to blur even more. That's when I had to take it into my own hands, i went to the bottom of the tank so i could see my bolt better. I start to put all of my concentration onto the bolt. Then suddenly another gush of water. I slid down the side of the tank and regained my normal breathing pattern. Once the guard opened the tank door I heard papa shouting at 002. "how dare you undo your own bolt and leave your sister to drown" I then heard 002 reply in a weak and scared tone. "but I was scared she isn't strong enough to save me" papa then called the guard over and 002 was escorted from the room but before he could leave I stood up and flung him against the wall. One of the guards went to stop me but papa stopped them. All my anger and concentration was now on him. He was weakly calling for papa but he did nothing 002 started to look pale so I let him drop to the floor and I also dropped to the floor and it all went dark.

OK this is my first chapter I hope you like it. I didn't want to make it too boring so if it is pls let me know and please tell me some suggestions so this doesn't become boring. But anyway please leave a vote.
