The Ace Pilot Race

Continuation of "A Mission for Rebel Women" Enjoy!

It was a little while after the other women and I went on that mission, and it's been really quiet since then.

After that mission, the bond I have with them now has strengthened. I couldn't ask for better friends, a better family.

Right now, Kanan and I were having a duel.

"Is that the best you've got, Kanan?" I asked, swinging my lightsaber.

Kanan dodged my attack with the slightest of ease.

"Trust me, I'm just getting started." Kanan said.

Kanan and I charged at each other, and our blades collied; sparks flying off both our weapons.

"Kanan! Zelara!" cried out a voice.

The two of us stopped and turned in the direction of the voice. It was Sabine.

Wonder what she wants...?

"What's up Sabine?" I asked.

"You guys need to come to the command center," Sabine said.

"Why? What's wrong?" Kanan asked.

"Just, come on!"

Sabine ran off in the opposite direction with a wide grin on her face. Kanan and I turned to each other and shrugged. Deactivating our weapons, the two of us followed our Mandalorian friend to the command center. When we got there, there were a significant number of pilots flooding the command deck.

What's going on...?

As I looked around, I noticed Hera, Val, Hobbe, and Wedge in the center of the sea of pilots. Kanan and I pushed our way to the front until we were with our beloved captain.

"Hera, what's going on?" Kanan asked.

Hera turned around and sighed heavily.

"Kanan, Zelara. I'm glad the two of you are here," she said.

"What's wrong, and why there so many pilots here?" I asked.

"Well, there's been a large debate going around saying who the real ace pilot of the rebellion is. It's come down to be between Val, Hobbe, Wedge, and myself."

That's what all the fuss is about...?

"Yeah, I know I'm a good pilot, but I don't know I'm even up to par with Captain Hera here." Val said.

"Hobbe and I are rather good fliers. I mean, we were TIE fighter pilots before we joined you guys." Wedge commented.

Kanan and I turned to each other and shook our heads in disbelief. We couldn't believe what we were hearing.

"Hera is obviously the ace pilot! She's Phoenix Leader, after all." said one of the pilots.

"Just because she's Phoenix Leader, doesn't mean she's the ace pilot! Hobbe and Wedge were TIE fighter pilots. You have to be an impressive pilot to become one of those." commented another pilot.

"Both of you are wrong! It's obviously Val. Give the underdog some credit!" argued another pilot.

I placed a hand on my temple and sighed as I listened to the many bickering pilots. Sensing a presence coming towards me, I turned around to see Sabine, Ezra, and Zeb push their way to the front.

"Can you guys believe this?" Ezra asked.

"Yes. Yes, I can." I said.

"I may be blind, but just hearing what's going on is giving me a headache." Kanan said.

"How are we going to get these pilots to settle down?" Zeb asked.

"Or come to a conclusion." Sabine added.

Humming in thought, I snapped my fingers when I came up with an idea.

"I got it!" I said.

"Got what?" Zeb asked.

Clearing my throat, I let out a loud whistle that caught everyone's attention.

"All right everyone. This debate's gone on long enough. Luckily, I came up with an idea that will settle this feud once and for all," I said.

"How?" asked one of the pilots.

"A race. An ace pilot race. Whichever one of these four amazing pilots win is the real ace pilot of the rebellion."

Soft murmurs filled the command center.

"How will the race work, Commander?" a pilot asked.

"Each pilot will fly an A-wing; to make things fair, of course. They will have to fly all around Atollon and whoever makes it back to the base first, wins. Simple as that." I explained.

"But, to make things interesting, we'll plant obstacles around certain areas, such as anti-ship canons, and anything else that will make their flight hectic." Ezra said stepping forward.

I nodded and turned back to the pilots.

"Since it will take some time to set up the anti-ship canons and find placements for the thumpers, the race will take place a week from now. If we finish the preparations earlier than later, the race will be held the day two days after the final preparations... Given that our top fliers agree." I said looking at the four pilots.

Hera, Val, Hobbe, and Wedge nodded with sincere smiles.

"All right, then it's settled. Starting tomorrow, we'll begin working on the course and finding placements for the ship canons. Dismissed." I said, clapping my hands twice.

Once I did so, the pilots dispersed around the base.

"Way to take charge, Commander June." Val said.

"Please Val. Just call me Zelara. And thanks." I said.

"So, we're actually going to have a race between the rebellion's top four fliers to find out who's the ace?" Kanan asked.

"Yeah, pretty much." Ezra replied.

Kanan breathed out a heavy sigh and placed a hand on his swaying head.

"You guys are ridiculous." he mumbled.

"Aw, come on, Kanan. I know for a fact that you're just as curious and excited as us." I said, bumping my shoulder with his.

Kanan turned in my direction and a small grin grew on his face.

Knew it...

"Can't wait for this race to happen." Wedge suddenly said.

"Neither can I." Hobbe said.

"Same." Val said.

"Well then, may the best pilot win." Hera said.

The three other pilots smiled and nodded to their captain. Evening soon fell and covered Chopper Base in its beautiful darkness.

Tomorrow, the first preparations for the race will begin. I can't wait!

The next day came, and everyone started preparing for the race. Ezra and Zeb oversaw placing thumpers all around Atollon. The thumpers wouldn't just keep the spiders at bay, but they would also indicate and tell the pilots where to go. Sabine, Chopper, and Calico were helping other mechanics and engineers build the anti-ship canons.

Thanks to Kayla and Nerezza's contribution, they were able to send us the bits and pieces to make the canons. Even better, they said that they'll stay to help with the race. The more help we get, the better.

Wanting to see how Ezra and Zeb were progressing, I grabbed a speeder bike and made my way towards their location; thanks to the tracking beacon I planted on their speeder. Once I reached the boys' destination, I saw them placing down a thumper and activating it.

"Hey, guys." I said.

My Padawan and the Lasat turned around and smiled.

"Hey Zel." Ezra said.

"Looking good, you two. Once you two are finished, I'll bring Calico out here to make a map for Hera and the others," I said.

"Great. How are the ship canons coming along?" Zeb asked.

"Good, actually. Kayla and Nerezza were able to steal from parts to give to us. They're back at the base helping out as we speak."

Ezra nodded as he planted a thumper in the ground.

"All right. We'll alert you when we're finished." Ezra said.

"Okay, keep up the good work." I said.

Hopping on the speeder bike, I followed the trail of thumpers back to the base. Upon my arrival, Kanan and Kayla were there to greet me.

"Hey, you two," I said.

"Hey Z. How's everything going with the course?" Kayla asked.

"Good. The boys are almost done. What about the anti-ship canons?"

"I heard they're coming along just fine." Kanan said.

I nodded with a satisfied grin.

Not only will the anti-ship canons be used for the race, but if the Empire sends TIE fighters, we'll be able to blast them out of the sky.

Feeling a familiar presence coming towards me, I let a smile form when I saw Sabine, Chopper, and Calico come up to us.

"Hey, you three. Quick question, how many ship canons did you guys make so far?" I asked.

"Three anti-ship canons have been made, as per your request, Lady Zelara." Calico said.

"Really? That's incredible you guys. I take it that with Sabine in charge of the building portion, everything went by smoothly."

"Yep." Sabine answered.

Chopper grunted and warbled.

"Oh, stop complaining. You helped out a little." Sabine said.

Kayla, Kanan, and I chuckled at Sabine's statement. Seeing that the sun was beginning to set, I let out a silent sigh before pressing on my wrist comm.

"Ezra, Zeb, you guys can start heading back. It's getting late." I said.

"All right, we'll be there shortly." Ezra answered.

Cutting the connection, I told Sabine to tell the others to wrap things up for now since the night was falling. Nodding firmly, the Mandalorian and the two droids went back to the base.

"I'll wait here to make sure Ezra and Zeb make it back safely." I said.

Kanan and Kayla nodded in understanding before leaving me. I sat down at the edge of the cliff and started to meditate, waiting on my Padawan and Lasat. After a while, I felt two familiar presences coming up to me. Smiling, I stood up and turned around to see Ezra and Zeb.

"Glad you two are back," I said.

"Thanks. We're almost halfway done." Zeb sad.

"If we work fast enough tomorrow, we should be done after sunset. How are the anti-ship canons coming along?" Ezra asked.

"Great, actually. Thanks to Sabine, she and the others made three today."

Zeb and Ezra pulled back in surprise.

"Really? That was quick," Zeb said.

"Yeah... I'm glad everyone is so eager to do this." I said.

"Well, it was YOUR idea, Zela. And besides, I'm pretty excited about this race as well. I might be biased, but I feel that Hera's definitely gonna win." Ezra said.

"I think so, too."

I smiled at the two of them before looking off into the distance, my eyes fixated on the silver moon against the navy blue sky. Letting a sigh disappear into the night, I turned back to my friends and smiled.

"Come on guys. Another busy day tomorrow." I said.

My Padawan and the Lasat nodded, and the three of us made our way towards the Ghost.

Things certainly are looking up. If we finish everything sooner than later, the long-awaited race may be closer than we think.

The new day dawned, and everyone got to work once more. Checking up on everyone, I saw Hera talking with Val by some A-wings.

"Morning you two." I said.

The two pilots looked over and smiled.

"Morning Zelara." Hera said.

"So, are you guys ready for the big race soon?" I asked.

"Totally! That's all I've been thinking about." Val said.

"Are you going to participate, Zel?" Hera asked.

I looked at the captain and raised a brow.

"What that a serious question or a jab at my flying skills?" I asked.

"Whatever you want to make of it." Hera said with a bold grin.

I chuckled and shook my head fondly.

"Well, I know for a fact that if I participate, I will surely lose, no doubt. But you can bet that I'll be cheering you two, Hobbe, and Wedge on." I said.

"Thanks, Zelara." Val said.

I smiled and nodded to the two pilots. I soon looked down at my wrist comm when it started beeping.

"I read you, Sabine. What is it?" I asked.

"Can you come to the command center? I want you to check out the anti-ship canons." Sabine said.

"Oh, alright. I'll be right there."

Cutting the connection, I waved goodbye to the duo of pilots before making my way to the command center.

I wonder what the anti-ship canons look like...

Upon my arrival at the command center, I was met with four medium-sized canons. My eyes widened as well did my grin.

"So, what do you think?" Sabine asked, coming from the back of a canon.

"They're amazing, Sabine! Not only will they serve a purpose in this race, but they'll also be beneficial for us if the Empire decides to send any TIEs. I see you've made four so far." I said.

"Yep. Since we have three teams working on individual canons, and each canon takes about a couple of hours to make and finalize, we should have at least seven canons by the end of the day."

My shoulders dropped and my mouth gaped open.

"Seven by the end of the day...? Sabine Wren, you are, without a doubt, the best mechanic I have ever met." I said.

"Thanks, Z. It wasn't just me; it was the teams as well." Sabine said.

I followed the Mandalorian as she walked over to a team of mechanics who were almost done building a canon.

"Wow. This is amazing. Everyone is doing such an incredible job." I said, clapping my hands.

"Thank you, Commander." said one of the mechanics.

After a while, my wrist comm started beeping again.

"Read you loud and clear, Ezra. What is it?" I asked.

"We're just about done. Zeb and I just need to place a couple more thumpers, and then we'll call you again to come over with Calico to create the map for our pilots." Ezra said.

"That's excellent news, Ezra. Take your time. I'll be awaiting your call."

Cutting the connection, I turned back to see that the anti-ship canon that was almost complete was finished.

"Wow. You guys did an amazing job." I said.

"Thanks, Zel." Sabine said.

Right then, my wrist comm went off again.

"Hey Ezra," I said.

"Zeb and I finished. We're on our way back now. You and Calico can start making the map." Ezra said.

"Roger that."

Cutting the connection, I looked up from my wrist and noticed Calico helping some of the mechanics.

"Calico, let's go." I said.

My father's droid walked up to me and bowed his head.

"Right away, Lady Zelara." Calico said.

The two of us hopped in a speeder and went to the start of the course.

"All right, Calico. I need you to make a map of the racecourse so we can give it to Hera and the others. Think you can do that?" I asked.

"I know I can do it, Lady Zelara." Calico said.

Smiling at my father's droid, we started on our way; Calico scanning the racecourse as we journeyed across Atollon. Half an hour later, we made it to the end of the course.

"Data collected. Racecourse map completed, Lady Zelara." Calico said.

"Excellent. I'll ask Sabine to see if she can input the map on some data pads." I said.

Once the two of us walked to the command center, I saw seven anti-ship canons in front of me.

Whoa... They're amazing...

I was in total awe.

"Seven should be enough, right Zelara?" Sabine asked.

Sabine's voice brought me out of my thoughts.

"Definitely. Tomorrow, I'll scout out the placements for them, and send you the coordinates," I said.

"I asked Kayla if we can transport the canons to their designated locations using the Astradamus. Thankfully, she said yes," Sabine said.

"Great. By the way, Calico has the map ready. All we need is to upload it to some data pads. That way, we can track our high-flying friends."

"Say no more. I'll get started on that right away."

The Mandalorian soon lead Calico away to copy the data. Looking around, I couldn't help but smile.

I'm really glad everyone was so eager to do this. If no one wanted to see a race, the debate would've continued. Besides, we all need a break from the Empire, and doing this is race is a great distraction, for now, anyway.

For the remainder of the day, I walked around the base, helping whoever I can. When the day was at its end, everyone clocked out until tomorrow.

I have to get up early if I'm going to scout out placements for the anti-ship canons.

When the Atollon sun rose from its slumber, so did I. Grabbing one of the racecourse maps, I took a speeder bike and went out to the course. Looking at all the cliffs surrounding the course, I made notes on where to place the anti-ship canons.

Each canon would be a few miles apart. If we put them right next to each other, it could cause some major problems.

Once I completed finding the placements for the anti-ship canons, the sun was already high in the sky. Satisfied with the placements, I started heading back to the base. Once I returned, I was greeted by Nerezza and Kayla.

"Hey, you two," I said.

"Welcome back, June." Nerezza said.

"Where were you all morning?" Kayla asked.

"I was out finding placements for the canons."

I handed Kayla the data pad that had the placements for the anti-ship canons.

"Great. Thanks, Z. We'll get started on this right away." Kayla said.

Nodding to my friends, I watched them turn and walk away. Letting out a heavy sigh, I dismounted the speeder bike and made my way to the Ghost.

I am tired... Why did I get up so early...?

Upon my arrival at the Ghost, a large shadow that towered over me made me turn my head turn upwards. I smiled as I watched as the Astradamus flew overhead. Walking aboard the Ghost, I made my way to my cabin. Opening the door, I dragged my feet and flopped on my bunk. A sigh of content escaped my lips.

I just need an hour or two of sleep and I'll be back to help with the race...

The minute I closed my eyes, there was a knock at my door. I let out a loud, frustrated, and tired groan. Reaching out my hand, I opened the door with the Force. Turning my head, I saw Calico. Shaking off my drowsiness, I sat up and faced my father's droid.

"Dreadfully sorry for disturbing you, Lady Zelara, but I come with news from Ms. Kayla," Calico said.

"Everything alright, Calico?" I asked with a small yawn.

"Swell, if I might say. Ms. Kayla told me to tell you that she has completed her task in placing the anti-ship canons for the race."

I nodded tiredly and let out a small yawn.

"That's great... Calico, do you think you can take over for me for the next hour or two? I got up super early and I barely got any sleep last night. I could really use the break." I said.

"Say no more, Lady Zelara. I may not feel emotions like you, but I understand the burden you carry. You rest and I will take over in your stead." Calico said.

I breathed out a chuckle and smiled at my droid friend.

"Thank you. And do not hesitate to come to get me when there is an emergency." I said.

"Yes, Lady Zelara." Calico said.

Calico walked out of my room, leaving me in peaceful silence. Sighing in content, I laid back down and closed my eyes.

I'm glad to have such a helpful droid like Calico. After all, my father made him be that way...

When I awoke, I sat up and stretched out my arms. Getting out of bed, I walked out of my cabin and soon left the Ghost. I was surprised when I saw the sun still shining.

How long was I out for...?

"Zelara!" cried a voice behind me.

Turning around, I saw Ezra running up to me.

"Oh, hey Ezra." I said when Ezra drew near.

"Morning." Ezra said.

My eyes widened in surprise.

Morning...!?

"Wait... How long was I asleep for?" I questioned.

"You were out like a light yesterday. Calico took care of everything in your absence. Greatness certainly runs in the family." Ezra said.

I looked up at my Padawan with a kind smile.

"He told us about how you've been overworking yourself to the bone ever since you announced the race. You don't have to worry about things not being done. Why do you think everyone was so eager to participate in making this race possible?" Ezra asked.

As if my smile couldn't get any wider.

"Thanks, kid. I needed to hear that." I admitted.

"Anytime. And remember, if you ever need a break, just tell one of us. We'll take over in your stead." Ezra said.

I nodded to my apprentice with a wide smile on my face.

"Other than that, everything is pretty much done. We just need to survey everything and make sure everything is in working order for the race tomorrow." Ezra said.

Wow. We put together a racecourse and built seven anti-ship canons in just four days. This is going to be an amazing race; I just know it.

Following my Padawan's lead, he took me around the base to complete the survey. Luckily, everything seemed to be in working order. Once we came back to the command center, we came across Kayla, Nerezza, and Kanan.

"What do you know? All the Jedi in one place." Ezra said.

Kayla chuckled and shook her head fondly.

"The three of us finished surveying and testing out the canons. Everything checks out." Nerezza said.

"Great. Thanks so much for your help, you guys." I said.

"Anytime." Kanan said.

Smiling at the blind Jedi, I turned around when I sensed a familiar presence coming up to us. My smile grew when I saw Zeb, Sabine, Hera, Val, Hobbe, and Wedge.

"Hey everyone." I greeted.

"So, are you four ready for the race tomorrow?" Sabine asked, looking at the four pilots.

"You bet we are, and I'm totally gonna win." Val boasted.

Wedge chuckled and Hobbe scoffed.

"Yeah, right. Good luck, Rosa. I'm the one who's going to win." Hobbe said.

"Doubt it. We both know that I'm the better flier out of the two of us." Wedge said.

The rest of us just chuckled at the bickering pilots.

"Nevertheless, it'll be a great race to watch and enjoy." Kayla said.

"I'll be rooting for all of you." I said.

"Tomorrow, let's give it our all. May the best pilot win." Hera said.

The other three pilots stopped bickering and nodded to their captain with sincere smiles.

I cannot wait for this race to start.

The next day came and everyone was at the start of the course. Hera, Hobbe, Wedge, and Val walked up to their A-wings and got inside. Walking in front of the starships, I began announcing the rules.

"Rules are simple: the first pilot to make it back here is the winner and the true ace pilot of the rebellion. Dodge the anti-ship canons without getting shot out of the sky. Racers, are you ready?" I asked.

The four pilots all gave me a thumbs-up. Nodding to them, I raised my hand.

"On your mark... Get set... GO!" I cried, bringing down my hand.

The four A-wings rose off the ground and propelled themselves forward. Turning around to see the four pilots, I was met with a cloud of dust. Walking over to my friends, Kayla showed me her data pad. On it was the map with four different colored spots: Hera was green, Val was red, Hobbe was yellow, and Wedge was blue.

"Looks like Hera and Wedge are neck and neck." Kayla said.

"Yeah. I'm going to watch the race from a cliff. Anyone wanna join me?" I asked.

"I'll come with you." Nerezza said.

Nodding to the Umbaran, the two of us walked back to the Ghost and hopped in my ship that was next to the large starship. Powering it up, the June Atlas left the ground and flew over the racecourse. Looking down, I saw the four pilots coming up on the first round of canons.

Let's see how they favor the anti-ship canons...

Once they got in shooting range, the two canons started firing at them. Being the amazing pilots that they are, they dodged every blast that came their way.

Not a total surprise.

When I landed my ship on a cliff, Nerezza and I hopped out and looked down at the race from below.

"Looks like Hera's taking the lead." I commented.

Nerezza nodded with a smile, her white eyes glittering in anticipation. Hearing a ship land behind us, I turned around to see the Phantom, and Ezra, Kanan, Kayla, Sabine, and Zeb walked out.

"Wanted to get a better view?" I asked.

"You know it." Kayla said.

Turning my attention back to the race, I saw that Hobbe and Val were competing for first place. When I turned around to look at my friends, I saw them all rooting for Hera. Glancing next to them, I saw Kanan staring off into the distance. A concerned expression was painted on my face.

Poor Kanan... I feel so bad for him, not being able to see the race...

Walking up to the blind Jedi, I stood next to him in peaceful silence.

"Are you all right?" I asked.

"Yeah. Why do you ask?" Kanan asked.

"I mean, you can't see the race that's going on, and now I feel bad for not thinking about how it would affect you. I'm so sorry, Kanan..."

Kanan turned in my direction and gave me a small grin.

"You have nothing to be sorry for. I was just as excited about the race just like everyone else. Sure, I can't see it, but as long as I know you and the others are enjoying it, I'm enjoying it." Kanan said.

His sincere words touched my heart.

I'm glad he's not down in the dumps about this.

"Kanan, Zelara!" cried a voice behind us.

Turning around, I saw Sabine waving us over.

"Come on! Hera and the others are heading to the next round of anti-ship canons!" Sabine cried.

The two of us ran over to our friends and hopped in our ships. Hopping in my ship with Nerezza, I powered up the June Atlas and started following the Phantom to the next part of the course. Once we arrived, we saw the four pilots coming up on the next two canons. We all exited our ships to watch the race progress.

"Hera's in the lead!" Sabine said.

"Go Hera!" Ezra and Zeb cheered.

I couldn't help but laugh at my friends' excitement. The canons soon started firing at the four pilots, but they were undeterred.

This race is really heating up!

Wanting to join in the fun, I started cheering for the four racers. I didn't need a data pad to know who was in first.

"Go Hera!" I cried.

Looking over my blind friend, I saw him enjoying himself, cheering, and laughing along with the rest of us. His childlike smile made me smile. Walking over to the June Atlas, I picked up the data pad and stared at the map. Right now, Hera was in the lead, but Hobbe was right behind her, leaving Val and Wedge in the dust.

They're coming up on the last round of anti-ship canons. Don't wanna miss that.

"Guys, come on! They're heading to the last round of anti-ship canons!" I called out.

My friends turned around and made their way over to me and the ships. Getting in the June Atlas with Nerezza, I lifted the ship off the ground and flew over to the final part of the course with the Phantom in tow.

Can't wait to see who's going to win!

Once we made it to the location, we all exited our ships and looked over the cliff down at the race. Val and Hobbe were in the lead now, making themselves an easy target for the anti-ship canons. Once in shooting range, the canons began firing rapidly. All four pilots dodged the blasts with the slightest of ease. My smile grew in anticipation with each passing second.

This is so exciting! All four racers are neck and neck! Wonder who's gonna win...?

Then, a familiar blue light leaped out of my chest. The blue light soon took on the form of my other half, and she was soon there.

"I've been watching the race through your eyes, Zelara, and I just had to see who would win with my very own!" Aralez said, her tail wagging in excitement.

I chuckled at my other half before looking down at the race below.

"Come on guys! Let's go wait by the finish line." I commented.

Everyone nodded and went to a ship. Nerezza went with the others and Aralez hopped in the June Atlas with me. Hearing the engines flare to life, I began to follow the Phantom towards the finish line. Upon our arrival, we saw the other pilots and other workers already there. Once we landed our ships, we all ran to the front of the crowd to witness the grand finish. Looking down the course, I saw the pilots heading our way.

"They're coming!" I cried.

Once I said that the crowd around me erupted into loud cheers. Once the four pilots were in sight, I turned to Aralez and Kayla and nodded. When they nodded back, we closed our eyes and held out our hands. When our eyes opened, everyone around us was moving in slow motion.

I love using Force speed. I have Kayla to thank for teaching me said ability. While everyone else is moving in real-time, we're moving much faster; helps Jedi see what moves our opponent might use and gives us more time to react.

"Been a while since we did this huh, Kayla?" I asked.

"Sure has. I sometimes use it when I am training with Nerezza... Don't tell her though." Kayla said.

Chuckling, the three of us watched as the four A-wings drew closer. Staring at the line drawn in the ground, I watched as the four A-wings came closer and closer. Once the A-wings flew over the line, my eyes widened at the result.

No way...

I stared at Kayla and Aralez with a shocked expression on my face. They returned the same expression. Concentrating, the three went back to real-time. Everyone's cheers had grown louder before we used Force speed. Once the four pilots walked over to the crowd, everyone applauded and cheered even louder, if that were possible.

"So, Zelara, who won?" Ezra asked.

The question made everyone go silent. Looking around at everyone, I let out a sigh and straightened my posture.

"With the help of the Force, Aralez, Kayla, and I were able to see who won the race." I said.

"It surprised us all, but there was no mistaking about what we saw." Kayla said.

"Between these four amazing pilots, we are proud, yet shocked, to say..." Aralez began.

Sharing a nod, the three of us turned back to the crowd.

"It was a tie!" the three of us said in unison.

If a pin fell from the sky, everyone would hear it.

"You're kidding... right?" asked one of the pilots.

"We are just as surprised as the rest of you, but what we saw was no mirage." Kayla said.

"We never thought that this would end up in a tie." Aralez said.

Soft murmurs filled the air of the desolate planet.

"This just goes to show that Hera, Val, Hobbe, and Wedge are all ace pilots, as well as the rest of you. You may not think it but understand that you wouldn't be flying with Phoenix Squadron if you weren't." I said.

Murmurs of agreement spread throughout the crowd.

"Nevertheless, it was still an amazing race. Let's hear it for the rebellion's finest pilots!" I said.

Applause and cheers erupted amongst the crowd.

We may not have gotten the answer to end the feud about who was the better pilot, but we still got to witness an amazing race. If everyone is satisfied with the tie, then that's all that matters...

OMG! I AM SO SORRY FOR BEING AWAY FOR SO LONG! My father was doing horrible, but he's doing a lot better now. For those who prayed for me, thank you so much. They're helping my dad a lot.

This is definitely one of my longer chapters. You can expect another update to this before I drop the Halloween special I have planned. Suggestions are forever open. May the Force be with You!
