Playing the field (C-H-A-P-T-E-R 6)

I thought about chasing after Vincent and making him eat dirt, but I saw the way he ran out of the hallway, and I was nowhere near physically capable of catching him. With a sigh and a slouch of the shoulder I dragged myself to first period.

"So...?" Christie asked as I slung my book bag over the edge of the chair.

                "What are you talking about?"

"You know exactly what I'm talking about. You, Vincent that kiss. What was that?"

That question brought a smirk to my face. If Christie didn't hear me then she knows nothing about my game. "Well," I began deviously. "Vincent LeClaire is officially my boyfriend, and I will break the record of having the title of his girlfriend longest. By the time I'm done with Vincent he'll be begging me to marry him."

*~~*

I walked out of my class to head to lunch only to be pulled back. The door shut and locked and I turned around ready to curse someone out.

"Okay, what the-- Kai." The anger that almost boiled over began to recede. I knew at one point I was going to have to deal with the whole Kai situation.

"Can we talk?" he asked nervously.

"Well I'm assuming you didn't drag me in here to do anything else...or did you?" I teased.

                "Why do you do that?"

                "Do what?"

"Flirt with people even though you're obviously not interested." Kai leaned back against the desk and waited for an answer.

                "Who said I wasn't interested?"

He let out a sigh and pointed at me. "See, you're doing it again. You made out with Vincent this morning and now you're flirting with me."

I shrugged and crossed my arms against my chest. "When was playing the field ever illegal. I kissed you yesterday and I got no response. Why would it be wrong of me to try and move on?" The player side in me was starting to come out. I know that I promised Christie I wouldn't hurt Kai, and I won't. But who said that I couldn't have any fun?

Kai looked taken aback for a moment and then his head dropped to the ground. "I- Um, do you think I could take you out?"

I was shocked. Mainly because I figured he'd hate me considering I kissed him, then kissed another guy not even 24 hours later. Letting him take me out one time wouldn't be leading him on.

                "Sure." I finally replied.

Kai's head popped back up and his glee was seeping through his pores. "So do you want to go tonight?"

                "Yeah that's fine."

"Alright I'll pick you up at 7 dress warmly."

Kai and I exchanged numbers and I gave him my address. I even let him give me a kiss on the cheek before he walked out of the classroom.

What am I getting myself into?

*~~*

"So where are you supposed to be taking me?" I asked as I stepped into Kai's car.

He'd arrived a few minutes earlier with a bouquet of Lilies and an innocent smile. I had convinced myself not to feel so guilty about going on this date with Kai. Even though I may have seen it as a friendly outgoing and a way to make it up to him for indirectly dissing him, Kai probably thought that this was a real date.

"We're going ice skating. Have you ever went?" He replied.

"Dude I'm from Michigan. If there's anything I know how to do its ice skate. My friend Ryan and I used to go every winter. We'd pull out our skates and just play around on the lake by his house."

"Do you miss it? Michigan I mean."

"Well I miss my dad, and Ryan. Sometimes I miss the way it'd get real cold at night and I'd pull on a pair of sweats and cuddle in my blanket. But I like it here. The people here are great, and I get to see my mom."

                "Well I'm glad your here."

I smiled at him and we sat in a comfortable silence until we arrived at the ice skating rink.

We walked in and got our shoes quickly. I wasted no time putting on my skates. The ice is the one place I feel normal again. Kai and I finished lacing up around the same time and we got onto the ice together.

"First one around twice wins!" I yelled. I made sure to get a head start.

"Cheater!" Kai called back, struggling to catch up.

"You'll have to skate faster than that if you don't want to eat my dust." I giggled.

I wasn't aware that Kai was such an amazing skater, so when he sped up and skated next to me I sort of lost my balance. I closed my eyes tightly, waiting for the impact with the cold hard ice, but it never came. Strong hands gripped my waist and my back and lifted me on my feet. I opened my eyes to Kai looking at me with a worried expression.

                "Are you okay?" He asked.

"Yeah, just a little shaken up. How did you learn to skate like that?"

"I may act and look like an all-out Californian, but you're looking at a resident of Washington State. And I'm on the hockey team, plus my grandparents are Canadian, so I guess it's kind of in my blood."

A smirk slid on my face. "Well it looks like now I'll have to practice ten times harder."

I skated away from Kai backwards and started laughing to myself.

Kai and I skated around for a while. He would show me some crazy move that he learned from his dad, and I'd show him some mediocre trick that I invented myself.

"The bumblebee?" he asked. "How do you even know that's what it looks like?"

I sat beside him on the bench that was placed on the outer edge of the ice. "I was like four when I made this and after I would do it, I'd stand on the jungle gym that was by the lake and see if it was done right."

Kai chuckled and stared out at the ice. "We should go, I'm pretty sure it's close to closing."

I nodded and started to take my skates off. Kai copied me and decided to take his off too. We returned our skates and headed to Kai's car.

The ride home was silent, but not awkward. Kai was a sweet guy. He reminded me so much of Ryan. The way he laughs, and his sense of humor. I really have to fly Ryan out here so they can meet.

Kai parked outside my house and got out of the car so he could open mine and walk me to the front door.

"I had a really great time tonight." I finally said once we reached my door.

                "That's good." Kai said nervously.

I could tell he was waiting for me to kiss him or say that I would love to go out again. I promised Christie I wouldn't lead him on so kiss it is.

I stood on my tippy toes (Kai was a substantial height taller than me) and I planted a small peck on his cheek. I didn't give him a chance to say anything because before he could let even a whimper come out of his mouth I opened my front door and hopped through it.

I dropped on the couch and sighed. Today has been long and tiresome. Grabbing the remote, I flicked on the T.V. and a pizza commercial appeared.

Mm, pizza. That reminds me, Kai and I never got anything to eat. It was only 9:30 so I decided to order a pizza.

"Luigi's Pizza, how may we be at you service?" A man with a thick Italian accent asked over the phone.

"Yes," I started. "Can I get a small cheese pizza?"

        "Delivery or pick up?"

          "Delivery."

The man told me how much my pizza was going to be and I gave him my address. The pizza was supposed to be here in 15 minutes.

I sat on the couch and eagerly awaited my pizza's arrival. When the doorbell rang I ran to the door to get my pizza, but when I opened it I lost my entire appetite.

        "Anthony."

Ahhhhh hahahaha so I finally posted. I have to say I'm not too excited about this chapter at all. I know its skippy, and short, and probably extremely crappy, but it's all o could come up with.

I promise the next chapter will be much better, and it should be long and filled with lots and lots of drama. Plus its one in.the A.M. and I have school tomorrow so forgive me for having a brain fart.

On other shizz I need help deciding on someone to play Ryan and Rose. Help me out here people!!!!!
