Party Fail (Twenty-1)

Rose POV

Just as I'd suspected, our last day on then trip came and went. We threw ourselves a little afternoon bonfire that a few locals came to and afterward we packed up and left. I haven't been able to look at Vincent in the eye since that night in the room either. I should've been acting like it didn't bother me, but it did.

Time was flying by. Before I knew it we were back at school sitting at our usual lunch table.

"It's around that time of year again." Jace commented as Jessica walked away from the table to throw away the food she barely touched.

        "About what time?" I asked.

"Jessica's extravagant birthday bash." Christie sighed.

"More like birthday smash." Dani snorted. "It's a huge house party that people go to to get as wasted as possible so they can smash whoever they want."

"That sounds, interesting." I smiled. "So why are all of you so grim?"

"Because now is the time when Jessica starts planning it and since all the people who usually helped her plan graduated we're sure she'll drag us into it." Megan groaned.

        "It can't be that bad."

~Six days Later~

        "Jessica I'm tired." I complained.

"So lazy. What kind of friends would you be if you didn't help me out with my 19th birthday party?" She argued.

Tyler dropped the case of beers he was carrying and sighed. "Why don't you just hire people to do this?"

"Obviously because it's a lot more fun to watch all of you do the dirty work. Now don't stop. We still have a lot of work to do if we want to be finished before tonight."

"You could at least help." Vincent groaned.

"And ruin my fresh manicure? I think not."

We spent the next couple of hours prepping Jessica's house for the most amazing party of the century. All in all, we did a good job, despite the fact that it took us six hours and that Jessica's house is massive. By the time we were finished it was already seven thirty, which gave me just enough time to get ready and be fashionably late. I took a long bubble bath and when I got out it was Eight thirty.

I wasted no time searching for the perfect outfit. As I was looking through my closet I started thinking about Vincent. What would he be wearing? What would he want me to wear? What colors does he like best on me? How do I get his attention?

Stop Rose! He is the last thing I need to worry about tonight. I'm going to think about myself and what I can do to have fun. If there's nothing more to our relationship than this game, I'll show him just how good of a player I truly am. Watch out Vincent. Here I come.

Jessica POV

The plan was in motion. The party was in full swing, and people were getting drunk. Right now I needed to find Jace. He was a key component in my plan and I needed him to play his part. I could care less if this plan works out in his favor because it probably won't. He's just my innocent little puppy dog that is needed for me to get Vincent back.

I found Jace in the kitchen pouring a drink for himself. "Just the person I needed." I motioned for him to follow me and I walked us to my bedroom. "Tonight."

        "T-tonight?" he stuttered.

"Yes tonight. Is that a problem?"

        "N-no it's just that-"

"It's just that what? You're not trying to back out are you?"

        "No Jessica." Jace sighed.

"Good. Now Vincent is already here, but Rose isn't which means they didn't come together. I want you to occupy Rose's attention. Keep them apart no matter what. Tell her whatever you must to keep them away from each other. Tonight. Vincent becomes mine."

Rose POV

You can do this Rose look at you. You're beautiful. Woo Vincent with your magical seductress powers. I opened the door of Jessica's party and immediately the familiar scent of liquor filled my nose. The music was booming and there was a large crowd of people dancing.

It's been a while since I went to a real party. I almost didn't know what to do. Luckily, I remembered to just get a drink and let the music control me. I didn't even take ten steps into the party before Jace found his way to my side.

"Um, did you see Vincent?" I asked trying to ignore him.

"Who needs Vincent when you've got me right here?"

"Seriously? Jace you're the last person I want to spend my entire time at a party with."

        "I don't understand why."

"Let's not go through this tonight." I started to walk away from him but he grabbed my arm.

"Let me at least show you around."

I pulled my arm away from him and gave him a disgusted look. "I'd rather die a thousand painful deaths than ever give you the time of day again."

I walked away from him without even glancing back. Maybe I was a little harsh but he deserved it. How he could ever think I would want to be bothered with him after everything he put me through, I have no idea. Some where in the middle of my internal rant, I found my way to the kitchen.

I poured myself a drink and went to search for someone I knew. I wanted to show off my nice outfit to someone. I was wearing a black dress that stopped mid-thigh. It had 3 horizontal slits on both sides of my thigh and it had a beautiful sequined butterfly on the front. I'd added some nice black jewelry and my black pumps. I needed someone to compliment me. I found Christie, Megan, and Kendall on the dance floor and I went to join them.

        "Hey Girlie." Megan said.

        "Hey." I replied.

For a while I just danced, until I saw Vincent standing against a wall with a drink in his hand. I still hadn't had a real conversation with him since that night so I wanted to clear the air tonight. I started walking towards him, but he was pulled away by Jessica. What are they up to?

I followed them from a distance and watched them go upstairs. "He wouldn't." I whispered.

They walked into a room and I felt my whole world crash around me. "He wouldn't do that would he? There's no way. I know this is just a game and he has a past with Jessica, but there's no way he'd do something like this. Not while he's supposed to be dating me."

I had to know; even if it was completely obvious. I cracked open the door and I wished I hadn't. Just as I'd suspected, their bodies were mingled together and there was no mistaking what was going on.

I couldn't even move. My whole body went numb. This is just a game. It's just a game. It's just a game.

Who was I kidding? This might've been just a game to Vincent, but it was much more than that to me. Somewhere, in the midst of our drama, I'd gotten my feelings involved. As hard as I fought it was all in vain. The inevitable had happened. I fell in love with Vincent.
