Chapter 6

The lights kept getting closer and everyone held their breath, however mine was getting quicker and shallower.............. Jack's hand slowly inched towards the keys in the ignition..............the lights shined just in front of the cab and sat there for what felt like forever......the air was tense and the only sound was my quick and shallow breathing, the siblings noticed my panicked breaths and Sara laid a hand on my shoulder and Seth grabbed my hand, squeezing it........suddenly the light vanished. Everyone let out a sigh of relief.

Jack immediately turned round to me, "Emily, breath." He commanded.
I obeyed, taking huge breaths and closing my eyes, my hand grasping my chest as a sharp pain went through it.
"She has gone pale. What is wrong with her?" Seth asked Jack trying to keep his voice level but concern and panic was hidden in his voice.
"She has panic attacks. We just need to calm her down and she'll be fine." Jack said, reaching out and grabbing my other hand from my chest.
Sara moved her hand from my right shoulder to around both shoulders, giving me as much comfort as she could. Seth tightened his grip on my hand, rubbing his thumb over my knuckles. Jack just held my hand, letting me squeeze it. After what felt like hours, I let in a few more laboured breaths before letting out a sigh and leaning back into the seat again. The pain in my chest subsiding. I opened my eyes, seeing Jack's grave face and Seth and Sara's concerned looks and gave them all a tight smile.
"Are you alright Emily Bruno?" Sara asked.
I nodded, my chest still rising and falling.
She let go of my shoulders and gave me a reassuring smile and I returned it and Jack let go of my hand and cautiously started the car, slowly rolling out of the tunnel.
Seth however, didn't let go of my hand. Instead he stared at me intently, like he was trying to figure me out, like I was an extremely interesting...thing.
"Are you sure you are alright?" He asked.
I nodded again, "Yes." I said, finally finding my voice and giving his hand a reassuring squeeze which sent a shock through my body.

We continued cruising over the narrow tracks. We came to where the tracks ran over the top of a cliff.
"Is there a safer route Jack Bruno?" Sara asked, nervousness and fear in her voice.
"Not unless you know how to fly." Jack replied back.
I looked out the window into the fog and swore I saw something move. I didn't say anything as not to alert the siblings but I knew Jack saw it too.

Suddenly the UFO rose from the fog and fired, hitting the back of the cab and sending us into the the side of the bridge.
Sara, Seth and I screamed as we were tossed and turned around in the cab. The impact ripped my seat belt apart and so I was being flung between the seats. The windows shattered and glass showered us.
"Jack go!" I screamed, then regretted it as the pain in my chest had not completely disappeared.
My uncle stepped on it, speeding over the train tracks as more explosions sounded extremely close to us. Luckily the metal of the bridge deflected most of them.

One explosion got too close and I was flung to the side...right into Seth who, thankfully, had quick reflexes and caught me. He saw I had no seat belt and so held onto me as tight and as best he could.
"Hold on to me!" He commanded and I obeyed, gripping his jacket tightly.

The bridge ended and we sped off down the tracks again, into another tunnel. I thought the Siphon would give up like he did the last time, but instead it followed us into the tunnel.
"Uncle Jack!" I cried, letting him know we weren't alone.
It's blue lights illuminated the entire tunnel and car.
The sides of it created sparks on the walls as it was not big enough to completely fit.

"Alright, hold it together!" Jack told us.
Suddenly a loud horn sounded from in front of us...
A train horn.
"Oh, come on!" Jack cried.
"Faster!!! Faster!!!" Seth screamed, his grip on me tightening.
Jack stepped on the pedal.
"It won't go any faster!" He yelled.
Suddenly an idea sprang to my mind.
"Sara!!" I screamed hoping that I was right.
And I was, Sara whipped out her hand again and I watched as the speedometer needle sank and the cab go faster.

The end of the tunnel was coming up fast. The needle sank lower still, the cab going faster and faster.
I heard the train's brakes squeal and braced for impact, gripping Seth's jacket in my fists.

"Hold on!" Jack yelled.
Just as we were about to hit the train, Jack jerked the wheel to the right and slid off the tracks and onto the dirt.
Behind us, the UFO exploded onto the train and we all ducked, Seth grabbing me and me grabbing Sara.
We sat back up and watched the explosion behind us when...
"WATCH OUT!!!!" Jack bellowed, one of the train's carriages flipped and soared over the top of us. I screamed and we ducked again.
Narrowly escaping, Jack swerved the cab onto a dirt road and slowed down till we were back at a reasonable speed.

Slowly, I let go of Seth and Sara let go of me and we all checked each other and ourselves for any injuries.
The cab was silent.
Finally, feeling the weight of what just happened, I buried my head in my hands and leaned forward till my elbows rested on my knees.
"What the hell is happening?" I asked no one is particular.
"Hey, it's gonna be alright, baby. We're gonna find a safe place and we're gonna get some rest. Hopefully that thing is gone." Jack said calmly but firmly.
I sighed, trying to relax myself before I had another panic attack.
"Thank you, by the way." I said to Seth.
"For what?" He asked.
"For trying to keep me from flying out a window back there." I said.
He hesitated, "You are welcome."
I smiled a small smile, then turned to Sara, "And thank you for helping me calm down." I said.
She smiled and nodded, "You are welcome, Emily Bruno."

Slowly, Jack pulled over on the side of the road.
"I'm going to check if there was any damage to the engine." He said before getting out.
I took a deep breath.
"I need some air." I said, leaning over Sara and squeezing past her to get out.
I closed the door and leant on the side of the cab, taking deep breaths of the cool night air.
