Chapter 9

I turned the tap and ran my hands under the water, scrubbing the dirt off them then washing my face with the soap that sat there next to it.
Sara watched me do it for a few moments then copied my actions, scrubbing her hands with water and then her face with the soap.
"So, your brother has powers too right?" I said as I rinsed my face and then turned off the tap, "I mean, he disappeared from the cab earlier today and then completely destroyed the car that was following us."
I patted my face dry with the towels that were there and waited for Sara to do the same.
"Yes, my brother possesses the ability to control his molecular density." She said but at my confused expression, she continued. "It allows him to  phase through solid objects or withstand the greatest of impacts."
"Wow." I said, this guy just got a whole lot more attractive. "How interesting."
"The only interesting discussion subject is you Emily Bruno." Sara said.
"Me?" I asked, taken aback.
"Of course. My brother finds you alluring." She said and I laughed.
"Alluring?" I repeated.
"Yes." Sara replied, "I know you heard our conversation earlier in the transportation vehicle. I could hear what you were thinking."
I blushed, "You could?"
Sara nodded, "He feels protective of you. When he was able to calm you down when you were attacked by panic, he realized that he had found his Amoria."
I was confused, "His what?"
"Amoria. On our planet that is what we call the person who we will love for eternity." She explained, "On Earth you call it 'Soulmates'."
"Oh." I replied, bemused.
Sara smiled, "I've also seen your dream."
I blushed more, "Of course you have. Didn't Jack tell you that sneaking into people's minds was rude?" I said, trying to let humour take over.
"You are making a joke to make yourself feel better, Emily Bruno. But it is okay. I have no intention of telling anyone about it." Sara said.
I sighed with relief, "Thanks."

We walked out of the bathroom to find Seth there, waiting. He looked more attractive when he wasn't covered in dirt.
Wait, did I just say that?
I looked over at Sara to see she was fighting a smile.
Of course she heard that.
"Have you both cleared your skin of dirt?" Seth asked.
"Yep. We're good." I said.
"You look much better, Emily Bruno, less pale from your attacks of panic." He told me.
"You know, you guys don't have to call me by my full name. Just call me Emily." I said, chuckling.
"Very well. Emily." Sara said and I smiled.
"Hey, you guys good?" Tina came back and said.
We nodded.
"Awesome, I'll take you back." She said.

We went back to the table where Jack was sitting and he closed his phone in a rush.
We sat back down and Jack began to speak.
"You know, I think it would be..." he said before Sara took over.
"Best for everyone if Seth and I took another ride?"
My mouth fell open and I looked at Jack accusingly.
"What?" I asked.
Jack didn't pay me any attention, "Seriously." He said to Sara, "You gotta stop doing that."
"Jack Bruno, it is understandable that you are scared and confused considering all that has occurred to you." Sara continued but Jack disagreed.
"I'm not scared." He said.
Sara and I have him unbelieving looks.
"I'm just a little confused...but the bottom line is, you guys need someone from NASA or the Air force, not me and Emily." Jack said and I opened my mouth to protest but then thought twice and slowly shut it. I hate to admit it, but he was right.
Sara shook her head, "If you abandon us now, our mission will be in serious jeopardy."
Jack shook his head, "I'm just trying to be honest here, okay?" He looked at Seth, "I'm the wrong guy."
He looked at me, "Plus, this is way too dangerous for you."
"What? I'm fine!" I protested.
"No, your not, you've had two panic attacks in the last hour. I don't think your good for this." Jack replied and I couldn't argue.
"A wise human once said, 'You are what you think you are.'" Sara said, trying to convince him. Every now and again she would look at me, as if trying to convince Jack for me. She probably was, seeing as she could read my mind.
"Yeah, well, why don't you find that guy and ask him!" Jack replied, leaning back in his chair.
"It was the Buddha." Seth said, "He is unavailable."
Jack sighed.
"How is it that beings on your planet can be so large in form, yet feel so small inside." Sara said.
I looked down at my fries at that, pushing some of my hair behind my ear. I knew what that felt like.

Jack looked over to me in silence.
Sara put her hand over Jack's and I felt a hand over mine. Looking up I saw it was Seth's and he was staring right into my eyes.
"Maybe you and Emily need help too Jack Bruno." I heard Sara say and I turned back around to see Jack's expression become softer.

Suddenly his phone rang and he answered with, "Dominick, I told you I-" but stopped and his expression became grave.
I couldn't hear what the speaker on the other end was saying but I knew it wasn't Uncle Jack's colleague.

Seth and Sara looked at each other and I kept my eyes on my Uncle who stood up, held a finger to us and walked away, still on the phone.

When he was gone I looked back at the siblings to see that they were already looking at me.
"Emily. Do your 'panic attacks' happen often?" Seth suddenly asked me.
"Well, kind of. I only get them when something really bad is going on. It's only happened when I'm stressed." I explained.
"I see. How often do you see your Uncle Jack Bruno?" Sara asked.
I shrugged, "Every summer or so."
They nodded.
"Why do you want to know?" I asked.
"We are simply curious is all, Emily." Seth said and I nodded.

The siblings looked over to where the window was and I followed their gaze to see Jack standing there on the phone, looking out. He turned around and looked at us before turning back.
I decided to talk about something else.
"So, tell me, how old are you guys?"
"I am fourteen years old and Seth is sixteen." Sara replied.
"I see. Lucky you Seth, you're the same age as me." I smiled and a slight smile appeared on Seth's face.
"Your smile is equivalent to a sun ray Emily. Do you not think so Seth?" Sara said and I laughed.
"Where did you learn that?" I asked her.
"I saw it in your mind. It is what you wish your future husband to say to you." Sara said and I blushed.
"I agree." Seth said, and I looked up at him, "Your smile very much relates to a sun ray, Emily." His cheeks were slightly pink and I blushed more and smiled again.
"Thank you Seth."

Jack came back at that moment and got us all up and we followed him through the restaurant again.
Suddenly Sara stopped, "They're here for us, aren't they?" She asked Jack.
Seth and I stopped as well and looked in confusion at her.
Who?
"Yeah, they are." Jack replied and suddenly it clicked.
"Wait. Those guys who were following us? In the SUVs?" I asked Jack frantically, "Jack! Please don't tell me..." I didn't finish but Jack's expression told me everything.
"I knew we couldn't trust him Sara." I heard Seth say behind me.
"Sheriff." Jack said to the to men at the table in the back.
I knew what he was doing.
"It's too late now. We have to run." Seth said but I turned and stopped him, as did Sara.
"Wait!" We both said.
"Don't run. It's not what you think." I said to him, holding him by the arms.
"Jack Bruno will hand us over to your authorities." Seth said.
I shook my head, "No he won't. Please, Seth. Trust me. If you don't trust my Uncle then you can trust me. You do, don't you?"
He hesitated for a moment and nodded, "I do trust you, Emily."
I nodded, "Good. Then don't run."

I turned around back to Jack as he beckoned us over and I immediately obeyed, pulling Seth with me.
Jack grabbed Sara's hand and I held onto Seth's as we snuck around the back of the restaurant towards the exit. I saw a couple of guys in black suits come in and look around. Looking for someone.
