Chapter 10

The sheriff had stopped one of the guys as we snuck further away from the entrance behind people dancing to the country music.

Suddenly, in a split second people in every corner pulled out guns, no matter whether or not they had a black suit on.
I gasped but we didn't stop moving.

Only when we turned a corner did we stop. One of the people with a gun was blocking the exit.
We turned back around but someone was already standing there.
Tina. The waitress.
She put a finger to her lips to tell us to be quiet and whispered to us, "Follow me." And we crouched down again and followed her round the back.
Seth moved forward in front of both Sara and I and looked at us to see if we were okay. We both nodded silently and he nodded back.
Tina opened a door and pointed upwards, "Up there." She whispered.
We filed in after Jack but Sara stopped and whispered, "Thank you," to Tina.
"Good luck," Tina whispered back and Sara came into the little room.
Tina shut the door and Jack went up the ladder to try and open the hatch but it wouldn't budge.
He came back down, "It's looked from the outside, we gotta find another way- hey!" Jack said as Seth began to climb up.
Sara beckoned for me to follow him so, since I trusted them, I obliged, climbing up after Seth.
Jack looked at me in confusion and I shrugged.
I looked up to see Seth's hand go through the metal trapdoor and felt around before bringing it back in again. He lifted the latch and the door popped open.
I smiled, that was awesome.
Seth climbed up through the roof and, once there, waited for me to climb up after him and helped me up onto the roof.
"You're amazing." I couldn't help saying.
Seth couldn't help it either, and slipped a smile, I mean, a real smile and for a moment I saw the boy I had seen in my dream, but only for a moment, "Thank you." He said.

Once Sara and Jack climbed up the ladder, we helped each other across the roof of the restaurant.
I was the last to jump off the edge from a caravan and Jack caught me as I fell. Seth placed a hand on my back and kept it there to keep me close.

Suddenly, a growling noise came from behind us and we all turned to see a huge dog growl and begin barking at us.
Jack stood there and smiled at the dog which I was not fond of, "Hi little fella." He said but the dog suddenly ran straight at him!
I gasped and prepared to run for him and he put his arms up to protect himself but we both stopped when we saw the dog licking Sara's face.
"We appreciate your understanding." She said to it.
I was astounded. But not surprised.
"Let's go." Sara said, standing up and walking away, Seth followed with his hand on my back, walking along with him. I shrugged at Jack on my way past him.

We got back to the car shop and the three of us got in the car.
"Eddie! Times up, we gotta go." Jack said.
"Whoa, hey, but I still got a lot of work to do on it." He protested but the hood of the cab shut as Sara shut her door and Jack got into the drivers side.
"Next time we're in town, we'll make an appointment." Jack said, handing him not nearly as much money as he offered him.
"You want my card or...?"
"No." Jack said and started the car.

He reversed the cab out of the shop and shot off down the road, toward the exit of the town. But heaps of black SUVs and people dressed in black began to surround us.
"There's too many of them to outrun." Jack said and immediately Sara pointed at one of the SUVs and the engine exploded and I shrieked in surprise.
She did it again and again, blowing up every engine of the SUVs in the street as we drove past, knocking over heaps of the people trying to stop us.
"Whatever you're doing, keep doing it." Jack said, focusing on the road.

Jack spun around and kept driving out of town, "Say goodbye to Stoney Creek." He said but Sara obviously had other ideas as she pointed at the brake and the car stopped.
"What?" Jack said in confusion, "No, no, no, no, not now! Not now, come on!" Jack said, hitting the steering wheel.
The door on Sara's side flew open and suddenly the dog from before came running in and climbed into a comfortable position at my feet in between the seats.
"Sara, are you doing this?" Jack asked, "Sara, I said-" he stopped when he noticed the dog.
"Oh, absolutely not. This junkyard is not going with us. I am done picking up stray passengers. Absolutely-" Jack began to disagree but was cut off with gun shots at the cab and he sped off again.

The cab drove up a large hill and we made it out of Stoney Creek.
"Those guys back there. They were the same ones from the highway, right?" I asked.
"Yes." Sara said.
"It is vital that you take us to their place of operation." Seth said and I turned on him.
"You want us to take you to the guys who are trying to kill you?" I asked and he nodded.
"Let me explain to you how we do things here on earth." Jack began, emphasizing the words "on earth" and we both turned to him.
"When people want you dead. You avoid them. That way you...stay alive." Jack explained to him as if he were a five year old, "Make sense?"
"No one on your planet will 'stay alive' if we do not return to our planet." Seth countered, "And to return, we need our ship. The men who were trying to kill us have stolen our ship. Make sense?"
I was surprised at Seth's aggressiveness. He had been very quiet up to this point. Jack glared at Seth through the rear-view mirror and then turned around to see Seth glaring right back at him and I had to say, that glare was made for that face.
"Where do you suggest we begin our search?" Sara asked Jack, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"I don't suggest we search at all. I suggest we go back to Vegas and I drop you off right back where you got on. You too." Jack said the last part to the dog and I gave him a look.
"It's just as I thought." Seth said and I looked back at him, "No human is going to help us Sara."
My heart suddenly dropped and I looked back at the front, feeling betrayed. I was human. I wanted to help them.
"Especially not this human." Seth continued, gesturing to Jack.
"Hey, easy on the 'human' insult okay, some of my best friends just happened to be human. Heck, even my niece is human!" Jack said, gesturing to me in the back and Seth looked over at me for a split second and I swear I saw regret in his eyes, "And even if I wanted to help you I wouldn't even know where to start! I don't know anything about UFOs or aliens or-"
"Who's doctor Alex Friedman?" Sara asked suddenly and I knew she must have read his mind.
"She's actually someone who can help. And for the record, she just happens to be human." Jack said, putting extra emphasis on 'human' and even looking at Seth. I rolled my eyes.
