|Chapter 21: if we have each other|

"So I'm thankful for my sister, even though sometimes we fight. When high school wasn't easy, she's the reason I survived. I know she'd never leave me and I hate to see her cry. So I wrote this verse to tell her that I'm always by her side" If we have each other by Alec Benjamin

Again, some thing from this chapter might not be as realistic to an idol life as always, but this is a fanfic, I'm the god. Also, whenever Nari and Jaeyun are speaking their dialogues are in italics (like this) bc they are speaking Spanish, just a little heads up.

"Should we go inside to wait for her?" Jaeyun asked, staring at the airport gate they were parked in front of and then looking at her watch "do you think the flight is delayed? She said it was supposed to arrive at-"

"It would be better to just wait here babe" Jay cut her off, already knowing that if her let her drift off with all of her anxiety questions it would be worse for her "and it's not 12 yet, I don't think her flight is delayed"

Jaeyun nodded and leaned back on her seat while sighing. She was a little bit more relaxed now, but her knee kept bouncing as she just stared at every person getting out of the airport.

They were parked outside near one of the many doors, she didn't wanna risk going inside and getting ambushed by fans or paparazzi while waiting for her sister to arrive, so both Jay and her were inside of the car with sunglasses on, waiting for Nari to text her when she was out.

Jay was worried too, not just for Jaeyun, but he was nervous over meeting Jaeyun's sister. Jaeyun always talked about her and Jay could tell they were close, and that not only Jaeyun admired her sister, but also that her sister really cared about her. Jay cared about Jaeyun too, that's why he was scared.

They had only been dating for like, what? Two months? Two months and a half? He didn't feel ready to tell her I love you but he was about to meet part of her family, what if her sister didn't like him?

"Okay, now you're worrying" Jaeyun said, turning towards him and holding his hand "what is it?"

"Nothing" he said, smiling shyly at her.

Jaeyun narrowed her eyes "if you think she's not gonna like you, you're wrong" Jaeyun said. Even though they hadn't been dating for long, she had always been good at reading him "and if she doesn't like you, she's not my sister anymore"

That made him laugh.

"I don't want to jeopardize your relationship with your sister just because she doesn't like me" he said, squeezing her hand and noticing a bunch of people were getting out of the airport.

"Seriously, if she doesn't like you that's her problem, not yours" Jaeyun kept rambling.

"Babe-"

"Like, what's there not to like about you-"

He grabbed her face to stop her from talking.

"I love when you complement me but I think your sister just texted you babe"

Jaeyun couldn't even remember what she was going to say, grabbing her phone on a swift motion and quickly unlocking it.

Nari: i just got out, where are you?

Jaeyun quickly texted her back.

Jaeyun: We're right outside the south gate

She glanced around, waiting to see her sister's familiar face.

"Is she out?"

"Yes" Jaeyun leaned to the side "I can't see her" she glanced back down to her phone and then again to the outside.

"Hold on babe" Jay said "she probably has to get her luggage or somethi-"

"Oh my god there she is!" Jaeyun interrupted him, quickly putting on her mask and opening the car door.

Her sister was looking around a different direction, so she didn't see her at first, but once she turned her head around, Jaeyun saw a smile grow on her sister's face.

"Eonni" Jaeyun yelled as she ran up to her with extended arms.

"Vero- Jaeyun!" her sister said, letting go of her bag and hugging her little sister.

"Oh my god I can't believe you're here" Jaeyun said, her voice being muffled against Nari's shoulder blade "shit how long has it been? Like 5 years, right?" she backed away to look at her, not even realizing how quickly she had switched back to Spanish.

"I think almost 6 now, I don't know" Nari cupped her cheeks "god- wait, wasn't your hair pink?"

"I dyed it back to black like... months ago" Jaeyun scoffed playfully.

"College has been kicking my ass, I don't know anything that's happening" Nari sighed "why are you wearing a mask? Are you sick?"

"Did you forget I'm an idol?" Jaeyun asked in return, trying to hold back her laugh.

Her sister suddenly glanced behind her, frowning at something.

"Who's that? Did you come here with a staff member or something?" she pointed at someone.

Jaeyun glanced back and saw Jay, also with a mask on. It was funny, if any fans of either of them saw them here, they would probably recognize them in an instant. God, Jay's features look so good with the mask, Jaeyun thought, for once not stopping her own compliments to him.

Because Jay was her boyfriend.

"Hey, sorry" Jay whispered to Jaeyun "we should get in the car"

"Again" Nari asked Jaeyun, almost breaking her brain because they were speaking Spanish and Jay was speaking Korean with them "who is he?"

"I'll tell you in the car" Jaeyun grabbed her sister luggage and walked towards the car they had rented, opening the door for her and attempting to save her sister's bag on the back of the car, Jay took it from her before she could.

"You can sit in the backseat with her if you want" he said, closing the back and walking to the driver's door to the car.

"Are sure?" Jaeyun asked.

Jay smiled, even though she couldn't see it because of the mask.

"Go babe, it's fine"

Jaeyun smiled back and got inside of the car, sliding into the seat and closing the door.

"Sorry about that" Jaeyun said, taking her mask off "I missed you" she hugged her sister again.

"Me too" her sister said "but seriously, who is he?"

As if on cue, Jay got into the driver's seat and looked at them. Jaeyun motioned him to take off his mask.

"You're-"

"Nari, this is Jay" Jaeyun said "you might know him from-"

"Enhypen, right?" Nari answered, surprising Jaeyun with her Korean.

Jay looked at Jaeyun for a moment, almost asking her permission to speak.

"Yes" Jay said, looking back at her.

"Why is he here?" Nari asked Jaeyun, switching to Spanish again.

"He's a friend, he offered to help" Jaeyun answered and motioned Jay to start driving. She had previously written her grandparent's address on Jay's phone, telling him to use the gps to drive them there once her sister was with them.

With Nari's Korean improvement, Jaeyun was glad she wasn't going to be talking as much as she thought before. She might be an idol, that didn't mean she liked socializing.

As they drove to their grandparent's house, Nari told Jaeyun everything that had been happening with her college friends, any gossip about her co-workers and whatever was going on in the tv show she was currently obsessed with. It felt like nothing had changed, like Jaeyun was 14 again, sitting in the living room of the apartment they lived at with their parents, talking to her sister and watching tv until late.

"So, I told Micaela to not skip that work day with a bullshit excuse, but she did anyways and the supervisor got mad at her!" Nari said, telling her another story from her workplace

"How did the supervisor know?" Jaeyun asked, looking through the window for a second, noticing they were close to the house.

"Mica posted on instagram, the supervisor saw it" Nari rolled her eyes as she spoke, the mistake her friend made obvious for both of them. The car came to a stop, leaving their conversation up in the air.

"We're here" Jay said, looking at them through the rear-view mirror.

Jaeyun turned to her sister "I'll help you with your bag"

Even though she still had the keys to the place, Jaeyun was hesitant to open it without a warning, so she knocked.

As soon as the door opened, their grandma appeared in front of them, her face lighting up with a smile.

"Jaeyun-ah!" the woman exclaimed, extending her arms and hugging her.

"Halmeoni, I missed you" Jaeyun said against her grandma's shoulder "I brought a surprise"

Before her grandma could say anything, Nari appeared from behind her.

Their grandma's face it up even more, if it was possible. The woman let out intelligible words as she almost threw herself to hug Nari, who also had a big smile on her face.

"I missed you too halmeoni" Nari said, rubbing their grandma's back as Jaeyun and Jay got inside of the house with the bags.

Their grandpa came out from one of the doors of the house, making jokes about all of the noise. His face also lit up when he saw both Jaeyun and Nari at the door. After saying hi, they all got inside, taking off their shoes and leaving Nari's bags on the living room.

"Jaeyun-ah" her grandma spoke to her in a quiet voice "who's that?" she pointed at Jay.

Jaeyun's eyes opened wide for a moment.

"Oh! He's..." she turned around, seeing Jay talk with her sister "he's... a friend" she finally said "I told him Nari was coming and he offered to help"

"He's handsome, are you guys dating?"

"Halmeoni!"

"Okay, okay" her grandma waved her hands in front of her "I'll go set the table, you stay with your friend"

"No, grandma, let me help you-" Jaeyun took only one step towards the kitchen before her grandma stopped her.

"It's your birthday week, not mine, I can do it" and she left without expecting an answer from her. Jaeyun didn't bother trying to fight back, stubbornness ran on her families genes, so she just sat down on the couch next to Jay.

"Where did grandma go?" Nari asked her.

"She's setting up the table" Jaeyun answered "go help her"

"Why me?"

"Because you're the oldest"

"I just came back from a long flight and you just-"

"She won't let me help her, just go"

Nari rolled her eyes playfully, but still got up and went to the kitchen.

Jay rested his arm behind her on the edge of the couch.

"Your sister seems nice" he said.

"Only because you just met her" Jaeyun chuckled "by the way, I may or may not have told my grandma that you and I are friends" she quickly added, not daring to look at him.

His arm went back next to him and as Jaeyun raised her head, she saw him anxiously looking at the kitchen door.

"Why?"

"You know why" Jaeyun said, looking back too "I mean, she's good at keeping all of my idol life secrets, but this" she pointed in between them "this is different"

"What about your sister?" he asked "are you gonna tell her?"

Jaeyun gazed back at the kitchen.

"I don't know" I haven't even told Yua yet.

The doorbell rang just as Jay opened his mouth to speak. Jaeyun frowned at the door for a moment, wondering who could it be, but didn't think twice about getting up to answer it.

"I'll go" she heard her grandpa say, but she was already a few steps away from the door, so she quickly yelled a 'I've got it' to him.

The door opened and she regretted it.

Her parents were standing on the other side of the door.

Well hello there, how are you? I feel like this chapter is kinda small but tbh this chapter and like the next two or three were like two huge chapters and I decided to cut them down, I did not realize how short it was gonna end up being.
