|Chapter 20: king of my heart|

"Late in the night, the city's asleep. Your love is a secret I'm hoping, dreaming, dying to keep. Change my priorities. The taste of your lips is my idea of luxury" King of My heart by Taylor Swift

Warning: more song lyrics that might be awkward to read, also suggestive comments? (there will be no smut in this story, is literally just alluding to two characters hooking up). Please know that some things that happen in this chapter have 0 possibility of happening, but that's the magic of being a writer, if I want to write two idols having a picnic date on a fucking rooftop I can write it, enjoy.

"Please"

"No"

"Just one" Yua insisted.

"I said no" Raon complained.

"And I said please" Yua shot back.

"I told you guys that one story in confidence!" Raon said "I'm not telling you anymore until I want to" she finalized.

"Fine" Yua crossed her arms and leaned back on her chair, pretending to be mad at Raon.

"You're not gonna get me" Raon said, going back to eating her food, making Yua scoffed.

"Okay just one-"

"No"

"One question, just one" Yua leaned forward, one finger raised to show her request.

"What?" Raon asked without looking at her.

"Were you at Jiwon's party?"

Raon stopped the movement of her hand, her eyes opening wider at the mention of whatever that was.

"...No"

"You were!"

"Jaeyun" the sudden mention of her name made the girl blink a couple of times "why are you not eating?"

"What?" Jaeyun asked.

"Don't change the subject!"

Raon turned to Yua "I'm not" she then turned back at Jaeyun, who was now acting like nothing happened "what's on your mind?"

Jay

"Nothing" Jaeyun said as she slurped the noodles.

"You were smiling" Raon said "what was it?"

"Just..." Jaeyun trailed off, trying to think of an answer "a book"

"Those romance ones you like?" Yua said, her tone letting Jaeyun know where she was going "you know, with the spic-"

"Shut up!"

"There's no shame in liking those books Jae"

"I know! I'm still not talking to you about that" Jaeyun protested, quickly changing the subject "what is it with that Jiwon party?"

"Right, it was when you weren't training" Yua shifted on her sit, adjusting her position "so, apparently some trainees hooked up in that party, but till this day no one knows who they were"

"Just that?" Jaeyun said, a little disappointed.

"Well, back then it was the only gossip people talked about for weeks!" Yua said "it made everyone forget about... well, your thing"

Jaeyun only nodded, she definitely felt better about the whole situation now, but still not 100 percent. Progress, I guess.

Raon and Yua kept arguing in the background, something about Raon not wanting to hear anything about gossiping and Yua saying it was one of the only things that kept her from boredom while Jaeyun was resting, but she didn't pay attention.

She looked down at her phone, re-reading the messages that her and Jay had exchanged earlier that day and smiled. She still hadn't picked an outfit for their date (Oh my god our date), but she had some time later that night to do it.

She still couldn't believe it, they were going on a date. She had already planned telling the members she was gonna stay working at the company until late, then when the coast was clear Jay was gonna pick her up at her studio and take her wherever he had planned their first date to be at.

She was excited.

"Are you reading again?"

"What? No!"

[***]

"Where are you taking me?"

"Somewhere"

"Jay, we're literally in the HYBE building" Jaeyun said "I bet I can guess where we're going"

"Really?" Jay asked, checking if there was anyone could see them in the hallway and stopping on his tracks, turning around to look at her "go on, guess"

"Well, what do I get if I guess right?" Jaeyun inquired, letting go of his hand and crossing her arms over her chest.

"What do you want?" Jay smirked.

Jaeyun smiled.

"A kiss"

"I'll kiss you either way babe-" he was cut off by Jaeyun cupping his cheeks and kissing him, having to stand on her tip toes to reach him.

"Good" she said after backing away "because I have no idea where we're going" she finally confessed.

Jay laughed and grabbed her hand.

"It's okay" he said and started leading the way again, checking every now and then between hallways if there were any staff members around that might catch them.

Moments later they found themselves at the rooftop of the building, memories from the last time they had been there, how he had let her use his blazer because of the cold came into her mind. She couldn't help but smile at the thought.

"I know that we're technically here because of my birthday" Jay started, guiding her to a different part of the rooftop, away from the door "but I prepared a little something"

Saying a little something was humble, and Jaeyun knew that before she even saw what he had prepared.

A blanket had been laid on the floor with a basket on top of it while others were hanging from the walls and other parts of the rooftop to create a tent.

"I was gonna cook something for us" Jay said "but I thought it might be weird if my members caught me or something" he explained while looking down "I just ordered some of that pizza you said you liked"

Jaeyun didn't know why, but that made her smile even more.

"I love it" she said and hugged him, quickly giving him another peck on his lips.

Jaeyun was glad she didn't choose to wear a dress, regardless of what Jay had told her. She had bought this pink and white plaid dress a couple of months ago and hadn't had the chance to wear it, so she almost considered it for tonight and ended up going with a simpler, but cute, option. She was wearing some blue high waisted pants, a white top with straps around her collarbone and a pastel green cardigan.

Maybe some other time she could wear that dress.

As soon as they sat down and Jay opened the pizza box, Jaeyun's stomach growled a little, making them both laugh.

"So, it was you birthday" Jaeyun stared, cleaning her hands and lips with a napkin before reaching for her bag "I brought you a little something"

"Jaeyun, you shouldn't have"

"Well, I wanted to" she handed him the small box she had struggled to wrap the day before. She stayed up until late so the girls wouldn't see her and ask about it. She even had to be secretive about buying it, which was surprisingly easy.

"Oh my god Jaeyun" Jay said after opening the box and taking out the necklace. She had found a store online that sold lots of couples' jewellery and looked over the designs for what felt like hours till she found the one.

The design was pretty simple, two golden hands that you could attach with their pinkies, but as soon as Jaeyun saw it she loved it, and knew Jay was gonna love it two.

"Do you like it?" Jaeyun asked, getting nervous over his silence.

"Do I like it? I love it!" Jay said, his smile growing more. He leaned forward, grabbing her face and kissing her again. The cold chain against her cheek felt a little scratchy, but Jaeyun could only focus on Jay's lips on hers.

"I'm- glad- you- like it" Jaeyun chuckled in between kisses "that's not all though" Jay's eyes followed her hands as she grabbed the other box inside her bag, opening it to reveal the other half of the necklace "I know... I know we haven't been together for long, but I just thought this..." she took out the necklace and showed him how they got attached "...was a good idea"

Jay smiled again and pecked her lips.

"I have something for you too" he said, standing up for a moment to go grab something.

"Jay-"

"If you're gonna say I shouldn't have, do I need to remind you that you got me a necklace?" he interrupted her, sitting back down with a guitar in hand.

Jaeyun recognized the guitar from a video he posted on twitter a couple of months ago.

"Okay" Jaeyun said, adjusting the position of her legs "What is it?"

"I..." Jay started, looking down at his hand position on the guitar "I wrote... something"

Jaeyun couldn't avoid smiling.

"You wrote me a song?"

Jay blushed even more.

"Maybe"

Jaeyun's smile grew on her face as she brought her knees to her chest.

"Oh my god I wanna hear it"

Jay whispered a small 'okay' and coughed a little, warming up his throat before starting to sing over the melody.

[Verse 1]

There was something that night

Something between us

Did you feel it too?

Am I the only one?

I always wanted to meet someone

Who makes me feel the way music does

Sorry that it took me this long

To realize that was you

[Pre-Chorus]

I care about you

I care about you so much

Why can't you see that?

Why can't you see me?

But now I'm screwed

I think I like you

I think I love you

[Chorus]

I've had these types of thoughts about you

For more time than I can count with my fingers

But oh that night at the rooftop

That night changed everything for me

Not just between us

And I know you know it too

Is that why you left?

[Post-Chorus]

That night you were crying in my arms

Just like I told you to do

But now you pretend

Like you don't know me

I just wanna say those three words to you

And see your eyes shine

With happiness and all the good feelings again

[Verse 2]

The tears falling down your face

And your arms around my waist

Is it weird that I want to go back to that?

So we can be together again

But now you've pushed me away

And I don't know what to do

[Pre-Chorus]

I want to make you laugh

I want to make you happy

My chest aches when I see you sad

Why don't you talk to me anymore?

You've been vulnerable to me once before

Why is it that now you are cold?

Please not again, I can't take it

[Chorus]

I've had these types of thoughts about you

For more time than I can count with my fingers

But oh that night at the rooftop

That night changed everything for me

Not just between us

And I know you know it too

Is that why you left?

[Bridge]

My jacket still has your perfume

And I smell it when I miss you

Traces of flowers all over your skin

They fit you perfectly

I wish I could see them more often

I wish I could kiss them with my lips

Just to hear you giggle

Because that is music to my ears

I just want to make you happy

My chest aches when I see you're sad

Why don't you talk to me anymore?

You've been vulnerable to me once before

Why is it that now you are cold?

Please not again, I can't take it

[Chorus]

I've had these types of thoughts about you

For more time than I can count with my fingers

But oh that night at the rooftop

That night changed everything for me

Not just between us

And I know you know it too

Is that why you left?

[Post-Chorus]

That night you were crying in my arms

Just like I told you to do

But now you pretend like you don't know me

I just wanna say those three words to you

And see how your eyes shine

With happiness and all the good feelings again

[Outro]

If love should be like music

Then why am I heartbroken right now?

When the song ended, Jaeyun didn't know what to say. She liked the song, obviously, but the lyrics. They were cute, obviously, but some of them were... sad. She liked sad songs, but not when they came from her boyfriend.

"Do you like it?"

"Yes! Oh my god, yes" Jaeyun answered quickly, realizing she had stayed quiet after the song finished "It's just..." she looked down "did I... did I make you feel like that?"

Jay's grin softened grabbing her hand.

"It's okay" he said, kissing the back of her hand "yes, I was sad, but I'm okay now" he moved his guitar away from his lap and scooted closer to her.

Jaeyun leaned against his chest as his arm brought her closer by the shoulders. With her ear against his chest, Jaeyun could hear his heartbeat, specially how it got faster.

She smiled.

"How did you... well, when did you realize you... liked me?"

Jay stayed quiet for a couple of seconds, deep in thought.

"I don't know, maybe it was" he chuckled, finding something funny "that night at the rooftop, maybe it was when we were trainees, I just know I've liked you for a while" she felt his body shift a little and as she looked up, she saw him staring at her "what about you?"

"I don't know either" she replied honestly, shrugging her shoulders "I know I realized when you put that band aid on my finger, but I don't know when it all... started"

Jay laughed again

Jaeyun gasped playfully and pushed him away, scooting further away from him and crossing her arms over her chest.

"No, Jaeyun-ah" Jay protested, getting closer to her, but she scooted a little further away. Jay stopped for a second, actually worried "babe"

Jaeyun smiled, not being able to contain her laugh.

Before he could even react, she kissed him, their lips moulding together in the most perfect way.

Jaeyun moved back, separating their lips again, trying to get some oxygen back. She looked at him, his breath hitting her face, she noticed the little line he had on his bottom lip again and without even thinking, she ran her thumb against it, feeling every millimetre of his lip. He closed his eyes, enjoying the moment.

"I always thought..." Jaeyun started, still out of breath "I always thought your split lip was cute"

Jay smirked "Always?"

Jaeyun chuckled and grabbed his cheeks again "shut up"

She kissed him again, getting on his lap, his hands quickly getting under her cardigan and onto her waist, wanting to touch her skin.

"We- we should do this again" Jay said between kisses.

Jaeyun only chuckled again, just wanting to keep kissing him.

Looks like fate had other plans.

Her phone started vibrating repeatedly, so much that it scared her. For a moment she thought one of her members caught her.

"Hold- hold on" Jaeyun said, separating their lips again and grabbing her phone, trying not to panic as she unlocked it.

"What is it?" Jay asked, holding her closer by the waist.

Jaeyun didn't answer him, looking at the texts that her sister had just sent her.

Nari: surprise!!!

I don't know how couples act, help.

Believe it or not, searching up couples jewelry on Pinterest as a single human being wasn't so bad, some of those designs were so cute but I think the hands one is fitting for Jaeyun and Jay.

(I wrote this before posting the bonus 2 thing, so here's a little more explanation I guess?) So sorry for the late ass update. As you know, my computer broke and we couldn't really fix it but also, the same day that happened my mom started showing symptoms of covid and she had to quarantine in our house, then the next day I woke up with a fever and apparently I had covid too. I feel better now but it kinda ruined our holidays.

Again sorry for the wait, I hope you liked the chapter and see you next update!

(Btw, the song he wrote it's called "that night at the rooftop" lol)
