A Few Things In Common - Part 1

(Y/N) POV:

Finally, a new start just what you needed. You really didn't have many friends, that's why you decided to find a roommate on craigslist. Sure they always warn you about that kind of thing but like in reality does anyone even really listen to those people? All you knew about your new living space was that it was a nice rental house with 2 bedrooms, an office, 2 bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen and some extra storage spaces here and there, Oh and of course the roommate. All you knew about him was that his name was Ricky and he played guitar for a band. There was no picture of him on the ad so that was all the information you had on this mysterious person.

The house had not been too far from where you were living before. You had gotten kicked out for not being able to pay the rent at your last apartment after your brother, whom you had been living with, passed away. He was the only family you still had left. Sure you had aunts and cousins and stuff but you were never really that close considering you liked to dress like you were "worshiping the devil". God you hated when your aunt would say that to you, You're a full grown adult you can wear whatever you damn well pleased.

Your car was packed to the brim with pretty much everything that you had to your name, Just a few shitty sad boxes of clothes and CD's you had kept. You had an undying love for music, this mainly came from your dad. You always believed that music was a cure all to any emotion you were feeling, well at least to you it was.

You sat in your car for a few minutes when you had arrived at your new home. Were you really ready for this? Were you really ready for a stranger as a roommate? What if he killed you?! Was that really the worst that could have happened though? Maybe you should just live in your car instead. You were shaken from your thoughts as a long black haired, tattooed man knocked on your car window.

"Hey are you (Y/N)?" He asked in a normal tone of voice as you rolled down your window.

"Oh um yeah......You must be Ricky then correct?" You noticed his blue eyes right away. Damn those things are blue.

"Yep! That would be me!" He grinned, his lip rings shining in the sunlight. You rolled your window back up and got out of the car. "Here i'll help you out." He offered generously. If we're being honest you were very grateful he offered to help because you were not looking forward to carrying all of your items into the home all by yourself.

You watched as Ricky carried a box into the house, trailing behind him with another. As you entered the house you noticed it was pretty neat and clean which took you by surprise at first. Not for any reason in particular but just because it seemed like Ricky lived alone and well...guys could be messy.

"So have you lived alone for a while?" You question just wanting to know what you were getting yourself into here.

"No not really I lived with my best friend and bandmate Ryan for a while but he ended up finding a girlfriend and moved out. So since then I decided why not buy the place and get another roommate."

"Wait, you own the house?" You hadn't known this when you messaged him online.

"Oh yeah so you can just pay your rent to me." he smiled as he walked back outside to grab another box. So far he seemed like a pretty nice guy, which of course was relieving considering you really didn't feel like living with a murderer.

"Hey this is the last box and I shut your car door for you." Ricky walked back in holding the last box. "Here your room is over here." he walked down the hallway and into a room, you followed behind grabbing the heaviest box there was.

You looked around the room and it was honestly really big compared to what you were used to. "Woah..." You whispered under your breath.

"Hmm?" Ricky looked over in your direction obviously hearing what you had said.

"Oh nothing this is just a lot bigger than what I am used to." You shrugged and set down the heavy box on the floor as Ricky laughed and helped me start unpacking.

"Well this whole room is yours!" he smiled, "Why don't you get yourself unpacked and settled and I will order us some pasta." He stood up and walked over to the door.

"Why not pizza?" You questioned because normally people always ordered pizza, however you aren't that big of a fan of pizza.

"Oh I hate pizza!" He laughed looking over at you.

"Hey me to!" You laughed sitting on the ground pulling open another box.

"No way! I've never met someone else that doesn't like pizza!" He spoke clearly shocked at this new realization.

"Well here I am" You laughed and pulled out your folded up clothes. "Now go order that pasta." You smiled looking up at him as he walked out of the room with his phone in his hand.

He seemed like a nice guy which was good. You both shared the same aesthetic, and you were over the moon excited about that. You don't normally find people who are into the same things as you are. You sat there on the floor of what was your new room and just took it all in. Gosh you had been through such a rough couple of years and it always felt like you were never going to get a period of time where you could breath. You leaned against the wall and stared out of the good sized window on the opposite side of the room.

"Yeah that'll be it..." You could faintly hear Ricky's voice from the other room ordering the food. Your mind slowly drifted off into your thoughts as it often did. Did he think you were weird for only having some clothes and a small box of CD's? You really hoped he didn't. No that was pretty much impossible. When walking over to your room you had seen a small stack of his own CD's, and well everyone needs clothes right?

"Hey the pasta should be here in like an hour." His voice snapped you out of your thoughts quickly.

"Oh hey yeah alright." You pulled yourself away from the wall and crawled over to one of the open boxes on the floor to pull the last remains from it. Much to your surprise, Ricky joined you on the floor.

"So tell me about yourself (Y/N)." He spoke in such a graceful tone, it reminded you of how your dad used to talk to you. He was always so caring and sweet, his sudden death a few years ago had really messed you up mentally. You missed him a lot if we're being honest here.

"Hmmmmmm...." You thought for a minute. you hated talking about yourself so it took you some time to even figure out what you were going to say so you didnt sound stupid. "Well umm i'm really into metal music and dark clothes?" You laughed pointing to the stack of CD's and the pile of clothes that were now on the floor.

"I would have never guessed." He smiled, his lip piercing moving to the side and then returning to its natural place again. "So why'd you decide to move in here?"

"Well ummm....I was living with my brother up until now but he en-" You were cut off by the sound of a doorbell.

"Hold that thought that must be the food." Ricky got up from where he was sitting on the floor and you did the same as him. You followed him back to the front door and helped him grab the food while he paid. You said a quick thank you to the delivery driver and walked back into the house, setting the food on the dining table. You began taking the plastic packages out of the bag as Ricky grabbed some plates and silverware.

"So what were you saying?" Ricky resumed the conversation and sat down. You gave him his container and took yours for yourself before sitting across from him.

"I used to live with my brother in my old apartment but he died a few months ago and ever since I had problems coming up with enough money to keep the place which just resulted in me getting evicted......" You looked down, picking at your food with a fork. You weren't ashamed of this, I mean this kind of thing happened to everyone, but it was just the thought of you letting your brother down and not being able to keep the place for yourself that had gotten to you for a second. "So this was really the best option I had." you ate a few bites of the pasta hoping he wouldn't ask about your brother or old apartment, it was still an open wound to you.

"Well you don't need to stress about rent here i'm very reasonable with it, as long as you just don't bail completely on it." he laughed again eating his pasta, which he seemed to be enjoying a lot.

"Oh no I promise I won't. I have my own shop downtown, it just doesn't always bring in as much money as I would like." It really didn't, and because of this you were left struggling most months mainly living paycheck to paycheck. You did love the shop though. You had owned it for a few years now, it was a shop dedicated to your fashion sense. Pretty much if people were into the more Gothic/emo/alternative clothing it was the shop to go to for that. You have always had a passion for merch designing and fashion, You're really good at it too if you're being truthful. Every once in a while you would get the chance to design new merch for a band and those opportunities always left you remembering why you kept the shop open.

"Really? What shop?" Ricky questioned raising an eyebrow at you as he did so.

"Oh um it's called A Little Less Normal it's next to the candy shop." You covered your mouth and spoke as you were still eating the delicious noodles. Seriously who could go wrong with noodles?!?!

"NO WAY!" Ricky looked up at you with a shocked expression on his face. "I always drive by there and see all the cool things in the windows but I've never actually been inside."

"Well maybe we will have to change that then." You laughed and rose from the wooden chair with the empty plate in your hand. You walked over to the sink and fully cleaned off the plate remembering to dry it as well. The kitchen was pretty big, a decent size at least for the two of us, you enjoyed this because it wasn't too big but it wasn't too small either.

"Well I think I am going to go back to unpacking and settling in before I head to bed." You walked back over to where Ricky was still sitting.

"Alright let me know if you need anything or any help." and with that you were back to figuring out where all your stuff was going to go in this new place you get to call your home.

Ricky's POV:

She seemed super nice, however there was something about her that was intriguing. I haven't gotten the chance to talk to her too much but I was really trying to get to know her and figure out what I had gotten myself into. My band mate Ryan had suggested to me that I should find a roommate after I mentioned I was having a hard time keeping up with the bills lately. Yeah I might be in a band but that really didn't mean much. It didn't bring in enough money on the daily but this was the only thing I had wanted to do since I was a kid, and well, I got the opportunity to do it so I would be a fool to not take it.

I finished up my food and walked over to the sink to clean up my dishes just as (Y/N) did. It was kind of getting late but I didn't care to sleep. I would much rather go practice on one of my guitars. I made my way to the medium sized living room and grabbed the guitar I had left on the couch from practicing earlier. I sat down where the guitar had been and began playing it lightly. Practicing new ideas I had in my head always helped calm my stress levels, after all I did just have a complete stranger move in with me and I wasn't the best with combating stress. I played a little louder, hoping (Y/N) wouldn't mind.

After what had seemed to be an hour, I was still strumming my heart out on the beautiful black guitar I had in my arms.

"H-hey would you mind turning it down just a little....it's really good I just um have a headache..." I stopped hearing (Y/N) speak out into my direction. I looked over my shoulder and saw her there in what I assumed were her pajamas, a long t-shirt with shorts on underneath.

"Oh yeah of course" I turned and set my guitar down on the empty space on the couch. "Are you heading to bed?"

"I was thinking about it." I stood up as she yawned, her eyes seeming to get heavier and heavier with every blink. "Do you have any Advil for the headache?"

"Yep it's in the bathroom." I led her into the bathroom and showed her which shelf they were normally kept on. She opened the bottle and took out 3 of the pills, swallowing them dry. "Damn" I laughed putting the bottle away, "No water huh?" She shook her head replying no.

"Alright well i'm going to head off to bed now..." she trailed off.

"Gotcha i'll be in the other room if you need anything." I gave her a warm smile as she made her way back to her room and I shuffled over to my own.

I walked into the dark cave that was my own room and flipped on the lights. My whole room was filled with guitars, all of my favorites laid out for me to see. I grabbed my normal pajamas, a t-shirt and sweatpants, and slipped them on. I crawled my way into my bed and laid down setting my phone on my nightstand. I pulled the blankets over my cold body and slowly drifted off into a dream filled sleep, however my mind always kept reverting back to someone...
